SAN DIEGO – The speedboat is about three miles offshore when a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent cuts the engine to drift on the current in quiet darkness, hoping for the telltale signs of immigrant smuggling — a motor's whirr or sulfur exhaust fumes.

Turning away migrants at sea would be cost effective for the US since there's no need to house them in jails and provide manpower for deportation. Turning them back at sea would also mean that by not setting foot on the US mainland, they would be denied rights what in country illegals throw into the faces of people who are trying to stop them.

What surprises me is that these migrants must not have any news sources in Mexico. Don't they know that our economy is shot, services are being slashed and immigrants are coming under severe scrutinization?

One question for the illegals: If Mexico is such a terrible place that you have to flee, why do you proudly display its flag in our faces?
