The UK Prime Minister David Cameron recently avoided a direct Taliban attack on his helicopter while on a visit to troops in Afghanistan in June.

While basic information about this attempt was released at the time, recent information has come to light that suggests that the PM was within 10 minutes of the attack taking place when the flight was diverted.

The PM was on a military Chinook on his way to visit the PB in Shahzad. A few minutes into the flight an int report was received by the pilot informing him to re-route to Lashkar Gar as a telephone message had been intercepted suggesting that the heilcopter was about to be targeted by Taliban forces in the area.

Sources have implied that a specially trained team of Taliban were dispatched on the mission and had set up SAM sites in likely routes, as it was apparent that the PM would visit the area.

A full security review has been ordered.

It's a bit worrying that the local enemy int is at the level that such last-minute changes for one of the most powerful men in the world have to be made.
