Cryptome posted this alleged Top Secret document regarding Iran regime change yesterday, since it's posting - there are now comments at the top of the document challenging it's authenticity and discussing Wikileaks credibility also.
If this is real, it's dynamite - if not, the discussion around wikileaks is interesting nonetheless.
I guess a major point is, who really can be trusted in the intel wars?
Salient comment/Thoughts welcome

Not really news to most, but if it is an authentic cable it would be huge. Everyone knows that the targets in 2000 were Venezuela, Iraq, and Iran. They tried to stage an uprising in Venezuela but failed and then denied involvement.

"U.S. interests", more like big money interests. The real reason for almost all wars are purely economic.

Big oil waging a proxy war under the guise of a 'war on terrorism', with public opinion being coaxed along by Fox News. Anyone challenging Big Oil's proxy war is labeled a traitor, un-American, socialist, fascist, or whatever the latest fear-mongering buzz-word dujour is.

They knocked off Iraq easily because it was a lame duck, already hemmed in by US forces, and Saddam was demonstrably "evil". Iran and Venezuela? Not so easy.

After reading it, I'm inclined to think it is a poor attempt at a hoax. Possibly authored by the Cryptome.

The way it is written makes it clear its propaganda or an invented bit of fiction. To me it reads like a fabrication.

I'd think the real thing would read more like a simple request to meet with specific Israeli principal players, rather than this editorialized message that no sane person at that level would send. It makes Clinton look like an idiot and I highly doubt she is.

I can't help but notice that the main point of the site appears to be to sell a 2 DVD set for $25.

I agree that the document seems 'wrong' but I'm not sure cryptome are about selling a DVD, I think they do try for the 'opening up government transparency' thing, but they don't seem to pretend that every document is real, they seem to say that some are, some aren't - and I can't say i blame them for this approach given recent events

MSM, alternative sources, who really can be relied upon? That seems to be the million dollar question

Read it again with an eye for, would the Secretary of State send such a message?

POST IS REQUESTED TO COMMUNICATE TO APPROPRIATE HIGH LEVEL
ISRAELI OFFICIALS OUR REQUEST TO COORDINATE OUR EFFORTS TO EFFECT POSITIVE
REGIME CHANGE IN IRAN AND VENEZUELA.

That reads like part of a bad fiction novel. In a real message, there would be none of the editorial included with it. It would simply be a request for a meeting to discuss the current circumstance in Iran and Venezuela without the editorial. I think its so transparent, I doubt I'd give any credibility to anything from that Blog.

There should be some scrutiny if its a serious site. I would have shredded this after the first reading since it is such a clear hoax, authored by a not to bright person.

Who knows about the money angle. I understand they need money to operate.

If it's real, whoever operates Cryptome will get a visit shortly and know it is real. The provider would have committed a serious felony that I don't think the powers that be would let slide. They would be out for blood. If they don't come knocking right away, you can be sure its a hoax.

I wouldn't think a cable would lump both regime changes together, both would have separate policy groups on them. Besides....Venezuela all you have to do is assassinate Chavez, his regime will fall apart without him and the cult of his personality he has built up.

Whether or not this is 'real' the targets are authentic. Aaron Russo laid it out a while back. There have been countless stories about the U.S. targeting Chavez, and so far failing. We don't allow anyone who goes against our 'money interests' (especially ones having to do with oil, although all multinational corporations are a part of it) to exist. Have you ever read the recent history of Central and South America?

It's amazing how many of their leaders die conveniently for the so called 'money interests'.

That thing read out like one of those ungodly e-mails my relatives keep sending me about Bill Cosby's opinion on [snip]all.

They should have went for a three-of-a-kind and thrown in NK.

That would be a fake. Other then all the flaws in the message and the way it is written. The most obvious flaw is that with the Iran issue has been going on for a couple years this message, from the 8th of this month) seems to be the first time a strike on Iran or regime change in Iran is being talked about. It reads as if the US and Israel have not discussed Iran in the past. It also reads like it is meant for an audience. Also Venezuela is a non issue for the US. The regime is falling of its own accord and Chavez continues to sell the US cheap oil. So long as he does that the US has no intrest in Venezuela. Not only is it a fake, it is a very poor one.

People are saying this is fake because of the way it "Sounds"?

Try and find some evidence it's fake before you shred it there, blaine.

So if I hand you a piece of poop that is shaped like a candy bar and go "This is a candy bar", you give it a sniff and go "It doesn't smell like chocolate", does that mean it's not a piece of poop? Usually if a piece of poop smells like a piece of poop, it's a piece of poop.

AKA

When a HOAX, SOUNDS like a HOAX...it's usually a HOAX....

Well if it is not fake then the this the very first time the US has begun talks with Israel about Iran. And not only that they have to explain to Israel why the regime change is needed. It spells everything out like the person reading it has not had access to any conversation on the subject before. It other words it written, and rather poorly, for people to read.

Oh ok, so it's a hoax based on a few people on this site saying so?
What a brilliant yet highly irrelevant analogy.
This site has given us over 50,000 documents on governments all around the world.
But they fake this one?
Give me a break.
I want something better than "It sounds fake so it must be"

It very well could be fake, but I want something more reliable than hunches on something like this, especially with a site that's known to give out good information on governments.

You do not need a hunch all you have to do is read it. Do you think that the US and Israel have waited until now to begin talking about Iran? And that the US would need to spell things out to them?

Read it. Would Hillary Clinton launch into an editorial to set up a meeting on a matter of National Security? No person at that level would. It screams hoax by its very nature.

Just because you personally want it to be true does not make it true. It was authored by a less than intelligent person and I don't think Clinton had anything to do with it. I'm guessing a very young person or poorly educated person.

If it is real, the person who provided it committed an act that would at the very least give them a Life Sentence. I kid you not, if the person who runs that site is not visited immediately it is a hoax. If that site disappears today, you will then have an argument. If not?
