Facebook Sues Teacher Resource for Using the Word "Book"

www.webpronews.com

Facebook is suing a company called Teachbook, which operates a social networking site for teachers, apparently because it has "book" in its name and "competes" with Facebook.

Teachbook is described as "a professional community for teachers".

Sounds like a threat to Facebook's existence doesn't it?

Ryan Tate at Valleywag draws on some irony, saying, "Imagine: Someone ripping off the name of an existing social networking tool for his own site.

Well, just when you thought Facebook had sunk to its all time low, here we go.

Yet another low for the founder of an international website interface diversion.

Oh yes, I am speaking of Facebook, something that is rumored to be a Government funded data-mining operation. Mind you, it is rumored, but many people around the world are speculating about that.

The Social Network Trailer [2010]

Let us not forget about the upcoming movie about just how back-stabbing the founder was during his college years, when coming up with, or stealing Facebook, depending on which side the lawsuit you were on.

So, what is your opinion, ATS members?

Is Facebook just off their rocker suing a teachers resource website?

Are they a Government data-mining operation?

Or is it just for fun?

This seems pretty lame of them. I think it will probably end like most internet sue cases. Dead.

Before facebook it was MySpace. Just like before Cancun the college kids went to Fort Lauderdale. Facebook won't last forever, something new will come along and everyone will migrate away and facebook will pass into oblivion.

Well, one would sure hope so, but it seems the founder is petty and jealous.

I have heard that Facebook actually deletes anything derogatory about their website.

This is where Freedom of Speech comes head to head with corporate funding.

Is Mark Zuckerberg that petty and jealous or outright plain greedy and fascist?

While I certainly am not in the know specifically as to his intentions it would seem suing a teachers resource website is low, especially because of the word "book".

Oh dear, they teach, they use books, what's next, someone suing ATS?

For simply using the words Above Top Secret?

That's OK they have already made their fortune. They will go on to something else as well.

Correct.

Facebook will go the way of the dinosaur.

It is whether they throw enough marketing and money into it.

But over all that will not stop Facebook from ruining their own image.

A fad that is as valid as the pet rock?

I guess we will see.

I never owned a pet rock and I rarely use my Facebook.

Honestly? He has a d-bag face. It's so obvious. It's not scientific, it's not proof, it's pure opinion, and that's what I think.

He'll get his comeuppance eventually.

Wow.. Reaching a bit aren't they? What's next? Suing people for using the word book? Maybe he's bored? Thought suing someone would be a good source of entertainment? (How many questions make a paragraph?)

This is just silly. Book is such a common word I highly doubt he's been able to trademark it without the word face attached. This will go nowhere. Well, except perhaps on a list of ridiculous lawsuits.

I guess lawsuits are now a part of the American Dream.

It's so fantastic you have to be asleep to believe it?

So, can Facebook be sued for using face, because of "facial recognition"?

FACE RECOGNITION HOMEPAGE

Watch out Mark Zuckerberg you might be sued soon enough.

People just want money.

And when Teachbook comes up it is just less money for them.

So its just another greed issue.

I don't use Social Networking sites, I find them odd and too mainstream.

People should wake up to that crap...just my opinion though.

edited to add:

Personally this is an Issue I don't care about, but since Facebook is such a popular site I thought I would chime in on my worthless opinion lol

Reminds me of No Place To Hide honestly.

Personally, this is ridiculous, if you ask me.

Is this sort of idiocy contagious because of corporations feeling threatened?

So, just how insecure is Mark Zuckerberg, really?

Considering I blasted this thread across my Facebook page I guess we will see.

Remember, brand recognition, begins with your name being shown.

Free advertising via this lawsuit for Zuckerberg and Facebook.

No one's opinion is worthless.

It is worth something to someone somewhere of course.

And ATS is a social networking website.

Just not the same as Facebook and conspiracy theory based.

The thing is I bet this Teach Book website is free.

In other words they do not compete with Facebook but take money away.

Teachbook : Online Community for Teachers

Sure doesn't look anything like Facebook and it offers courses.

Good catch. S&F.

...the shenanigans in the Monkey House just keep getting sillier, don't they?

If anyone sets up a petition to support Teachbook's right to use the name, PLEASE, post the link here!

Well, I'm not sure about anyone petitioning, but I found the lawsuit PDF.

Teachbook Lawsuit 72 Page PDF

One would think teachers have enough to worry about in this economy.

Now Zuckerberg is suing about the use of the word "book".

How nice is this?

Note my sarcasm, please.

A fad that is as valid as the pet rock?

Hey, I've had my Pet Rock for ages and he'll be with me to the end.
My Pet Rock has NEVER undermined me.
Has NEVER sold me out.
Has NEVER tried to sue anyone else for using the word 'rock'.
My Rock NEVER interferes with my FREEDOM of SPEECH.
And if I want to block my Pet Rock, I could, unlike the owner of FB who cannot be blocked from anyone's so called personal page.

Yes, my Pet Rock is all the things FaceBook. is not. The bags.

peace

Yeah Facebook is free too, some of it does cost money somewhere.

Anyways I know face book is trying to hook into ATS.

It's on the homepage right now.

I just find my opinion worthless when I has no effect or purpose at that moment.

I can mention other opinions about things and it is true it matters to me, but to most it doesn't effect or open there minds to try and think.

Which is what I normally try to do, but this subject people just need to stop networking on some sites.

I get my News from ATS. It has people connected around the world so its News is lightning fast and there are other abnormal topics I find interesting. It may be Conspiracy based, but I find most of them connected and factual.

Alrighty then.

Oh crap, lawsuit coming, Jim Carrey aka Ace Ventura?

Yes, your pet rock may be valid, but it can still make you stub your toe.

And in the wrong hands your "pet" can be construed and or used as a weapon.

Wait, isn't that what Facebook can become, if it is a data-mining operation?

A weapon.

Interesting indeed.

Well, Facebook might be free to use, but it's habit-forming according to some of my friends.

Interesting.

Maybe we should all sue Facebook for giving away their website like free crack?

Get you hooked and coming back.

Wait, now that I think about it, I believe there was a thread about digital addictions.

Damn you FARMVILLE!

No, I do not use Farmville, it's just one example of addicting uses of Facebook.
