I keep seeing people say this, and I don't know what it means.

They say, "Second line."

I can't figure it out. Any help?

There's a 2 line rule on ATS.

Like this.

3rd line.

4th line etc

We are supposed to post no less than 2 lines of text in order to contribute to the conversation, so some people post one line and add a "second line"

basically it's a cheap way of people circumventing the ATS rules, which states that the mods don't approve of 1 line posts.... so they 'cheat' by putting...

2nd line.

It really is a fruitless exercise for a number of reasons:

1. The One-Liner *Rule* isn't really a hard and fast *Rule* as such. Its to discourage such one-lined responses as "I agree" or "No" or "yeah what he said".
Its to encourage people to flesh out their viewpoints a bit more.

That said, there are also one-lined responses that can be quite pertinent indeed...and so those 1-liners tend not to attract any Staff attention or Warning for it being a 1-liner. Ultimately its one of those calls that are discretionary.

2. Chances are if you're posting 'second line', you're probably actually doing yourself a disservice and might actually be more prone to attracting any 1-liner.
As essentially posting 'second line' says "I know the 'rules', but meh".
...its almost a bit like that cliche intro to any discussion that goes "I don't mean to offend you, but...." which as we all know is pretty much a great indication the person is about to offend you...
