i was wondering if mods enjoy the luxury of being able to put anyone on their ignore list or not?

Personally i have never used it, never will. However, i thought it might make for an interesting thread topic.

i thought this topic may have come up in the past, but a search turned up no results. if there is a similiar thread buried in the archives, please close accordingly.

i searched these phrases, no results:
Can mods ignore members?
Can moderators ignore members?
Mods ignore
Moderators ignore
Mods ignore list

Do the mods have such a luxury or option? i would imagine not, but i thought it to be a subject that would make for an interesting discussion.

thanks in advance everyone,

No ... they can't even ignore esoteric teachers ... nor can they Complain even.

If they do, as certain sempers have in the past, it's latrine duty for a week.

This thread just made me think about something. How can we deny ignorance, if we ignore other members? After all, the root word of ignorance is ignore. Wouldn't that be embracing the dreaded notion, especially seeing how members are more likely to ignore those they don't agree with? On this board, it's not as if you will have your annoying posters, spam bots, persistent trolls or spammers, since it is heavily moderated. Why is there even an ignore option?

I have only ever ignored one person.. some viper guy. The only reason I did that was that every single thing that he typed pushed my buttons and I needed to give myself a timeout.

I think he is banned now..

I generally feel the same way and I don't use the ignore feature. There was one time, however, when someone was following me around the board, instigating crap, that I did put that person on ignore for a couple days. That's the only time I've used it.

We each have our own tolerance level and some of us can take a lot more than others. For those who don't wish to hear the other side or consider people with whom they disagree to be their 'enemies', the ignore feature serves a purpose.

It's just another freedom. But I do agree that to ignore someone because they think differently is embracing ignorance. ATS suggests and encourages us to deny ignorance. But they give us the freedom to make our choice about it.

That's how I see it, anyway.

Discussion over. i assumed as much.

thanks Mr T,
et

cent one:
i don't use it because if i don't want to read a persons post i don't have to. or, i can just skim over it and pick out the key words and get the jist of what they are saying.

cent two:
if i do put someone on the ignore list, i figure it is just more work for me to go and edit such list if ever i want to read the full context of what is said in a discussion where they are involved.

cent 2 & 1/2
too much, they ain't work a click of a mouse if they are worth putting on that list in the first place.

there is my 2 1/2 cents as to why i don't use that function.

second line, you forgot it.

there is something that serves no function, and is annoying somewhat.

"second line", a waste of space. and not too original. i appreciate directness and to the point posts.

have a thought, or at least think about it,

hey you!

i've been meaning to u2u you!

remember awhile back when you had a hand in fixing a computer glitch in which a certain member's flags were not registering on their profile page?

i have that same problem, no flags. any easy fixes, suggestions or options?
this is a free site, so one little thing like that doesn't bother me too much, not even after 5 years. but if we all survive 2012, i think i would like my flags to register before 2029. is this a fair request? no rush.

thanks,
et

LOL Thats like asking if the police can ignore annoying citizens.

Ignoring members would go against their job which is to keep an eye on EVERYONE.

You've summed it up pretty well I think!

Imagine if a member alerted on a post that was a violation of the T&C and a staffer couldn't see it because they had the other person on ignore?

That would be really inefficient...

i would like to see the mods get to enjoy their ATS, too.

it seems at times being a mod can be somewhat of a burden.

i also thought i would author this thread to invoke a little empathy for their responsibilities, and at least one sacrifice i thought (appropriatley) they make.

please help keep our ATS fun for everone,
et

Well, that's not literally correct. I ignore members all the time, and I'm 100% confident plenty of members ignore me as well. There just isn't a site widget to facilitate it.
