Wikileaks founder Julian Assange said in an interview published on Sunday that he believes the Pentagon could be behind a rape accusation against him that was later dropped by Swedish prosecutors. The country's prosecution service meanwhile justified the chaotic situation when authorities first issued an arrest warrant for the Australian whistleblower late on Friday night but then withdrew it the following day.

The Aftonbladet newspaper quoted Assange, 39, as saying he did not know who was "hiding behind" the claims, which came amid a stand-off with Washington over the website's publication of secret Afghan war documents. Assange said he was shocked by the allegations against him and that he had never had sexual relations with anybody in a way that was not consensual, the tabloid said.

Not surprising. If I were in this situation...I would make this claim as well...innocent or not.

He'd never be able to prove it either way....not unless there was another whistleblower out there to protect the whistleblower.

I do agree that this charge could have obviously been created by entities in our government.

That's probably the first thing most of us thought of, isn't it? I bet the story of those guys changed with child porn in the DoD not too long ago was related to WikiLeaks too. Also, I would go blaming the whole's probably just the neocon/Zionist factions in it who are pissed this is turning opinion even further away from our actions in the Middle East. It's so their MO. I am totally leaning toward believing that WikiLeaks actually had help from other factions who want us out of the Middle East.

No. We have warring factions WITHIN our own government. I think this is a case of the neocon/Zionists having a difference of "opinion" with the CFR. All signs seem to be pointing that way.

Well isn't this convenient?

I have been and will continue to be a staunch supporter of WL, especially their mission.

However, I am having a hard time believing that the DoD/CIA would be this sloppy. I'm more inclined to believe that WL pulled this stunt for press.

This is WAY too obvious, even for the good ole boys headin' up the DoD.

I really hope WL can get out of the press box and back to their website.

Well, they were pretty sloppy over 9/11 - so why not with WL? In fact, I would say that sloppiness is one of their strong characteristics.

The Pentagon is like Skynet from the Terminator movies; anything it deems is a threat to itself gets marginalized - or disappeared.

I have no doubt the Pentagon funds a lot of these far-right extremist ideological think tanks, who then flood the media with false "public opinion", or some of the more sinister plots like "CP on a targets computer" or "rape accusations against one of their critics".

They surely knew the charges would never stick, but that's not important. Once the accusation is out there, the damage is done.

I'm not someone who believes Assange or wikileaks is 'disinfo' or 'govt shill.' I believe they are the real deal and applaud them.

Having made that clear...I wish Assange would shut up and let the site do the talking. These comments open him up to deflection and criticism. He should strive to be a messenger and not become the message. He courts the media and I honestly think he is becoming a distraction from what they set out to be.

This is your government blatantly using their power to discredit a fellow that tries to tell the truth.

Which is why I don't believe NWO theories. Conspiracy theorists are smarter than the government.

This is OLD SCHOOL discrediting. Quite reactionary. And obvious.

Much like the mudslinging during voting campaigns.

If he did do it, I don't see how it effects the ability to release information.

However, look how it does effect the sheep's opinion though.

“We were warned on the 11th by Australian intelligence that we would expect this sort of thing. They had some concerns that we would have something like that,” Assange told Al Jazeera television in an interview.

Australian intelligence warned him?

I know that in France the intelligence services warn the people or the corporations they know are in danger. I believe it is the same everywhere.

I don't know why, but I'm surprised to keep reading the opinion that the leader of Wikileaks is scum. Really? Why? One, and here's a ridiculous notion I know, but what proof does anyone have? The guy is trying to shed to light some really heinous stuff going on and now he's a rapist. You're on a message board that is associated with UFOology, Cryptozoology, 9/11 theories and you keep going off about the "sanctity" of something, whatever it is I can't figure out. Bizarre. That's fine but I just want some of you to be aware that membership to this site alone makes you lose credibility in a lot of "normal" circles.

I think this dude is getting set up, which isn't too hard for me to believe.
I remember reading of a time if you mentioned that Kennedy was killed by forces within the Pentagon and the government, you were crazy, but now 70 something % percent now believe that that was probably the case. So...yeah....eek.
