This is why Canada needs a nuclear deterrent force.

Not! Is all I can say to that, they all need to be dismantled permanently and all nuclear power plants on this earth.

Nuclear weapons and the possibility of mutually assured destruction lead to peace and stability.

It allows nations to entreat on more equal terms.

Nuclear powers do not fight wars with other nuclear powers.

Nukes prevent wars.

*People who want nuclear disarmament want a global conflagration to occur. That is the inevitable result of nuclear disarmament.

Non-nuclear countries wage war against each other.

History has spoken.

I'm looking over the Executive Order now. It all sounds so good if you can make them stick to an objective scientific determination. But we all know how the science can be spun toward an agenda that most likely involves corporate interests. I don't like the idea that the Federal Government is taking control of our coastal waters. Don't we have government to blame for most of the problems with our oceans and lakes? The government OK'd all the projects and businesses that polluted, diverted, and introduced invasive species, and they are to blame. Sure, let them clean up the mess, but I'm fairly sure what the government says and what the government does are for the most part the exact opposite.

Edited for typo.

The funny thing is we have huge floods in several states and proper
flood control dams could have stored the water.

We have a management problem, not a resources problem.

As for oil we know how to grow it via algae and we could end
the single biggest aspect of our trade deficit.

Just another behind the curtain power grab by our esteemed leader.
His cadre of Marxist Socialist czars are quietly transforming our beloved country into the 60s USSR. Its no wonder he doesn't seem to care that his approval rating hovers around 41%.

Also, stuck into one of the Executive Order sub sections is the stated intention to accede to the UN Law of the Sea Convention which will put our Navy under the de facto control of a UN court in Germany with no review and no appeal possible. I bet Russia, China, Cuba and Venezuela are licking their chops at that possibility.

We are all in deep sh*t.

This is a good point. We have not ratified the Law of the Sea Treaty, but the EO is written as if we had.

These "subject to international law and treaties" clauses are showing up in other legislations as well. Bill s 510 the safe food act, also has such a clause, and gun control will likely come about that way too.

Ok I did indeed read the whole thing am I would refer you to the order that was revoked executive order 13366 written by George w Bush in Dec 2004, it is almost the exact same thing but the new one seems to give a little more power to what was titled the Council on Environmental Quality that had the same thing over all bodies of water including oceans and great lakes and they answer to the president as well as National Security Affairs, Homeland Security and domestic policy as well as economic policy as written in the original version so Obama simply used the existing one to add a little more to it as to get his name on the page if you will and in my view after reading both there was no need for a rewrite except to make Obama look better than he already is looking in the public eye and saying he is doing it because of the gulf oil spill when in fact it has been in law since 2004 its nothing more than a way to try and improve voting turn out for the DummyCrats. en.wikisource.org...

I have always been under the impression that you don't even want to eat the fish from the Great Lakes any more because the pollutants are so high.

I am sure they must be talking about Lake Michigan.

As I see it, the New Madrid will likely drain it all out anyways once it snaps; didn't Edgar Casey predict that one?

I live in Michigan and the Great Lakes are fine and the fishing is great. The only pollution problem I've ever heard about was a few decades ago Lake Erie had some problems but it's Ok now.

I've seen those prophetic maps on a what a possible New Madrid Quake would do to the lakes, they would drain into the Mississippi, widen the Mississippi putting Louisiana and alot of Mississippi under water.

Personally I'd like to see the Federal Government just Butt Out of States affairs as they screw up everything they touch. The Feds are corruot or incompetent from top to bottom and thats not just politicians but bureaucrats as well and they need to go.

I remember that scene from I robot.

With Lake Michigan dried up. lol

Trust me. If the lake started drying up people would notice. I think this is just the federal government saying "mine" and some dude in the future will say "no" and let go of it.

Funny...I have thought the exact same thing too. We have the technology & ability to purify water so why not trap most of it purify it then store it?

The Clean Water Act of 1972. followed by various other acts of congress places all navigable waters under fedarl jurisdiction. The Supreme Court decied that ..." ...those relatively permanent, standing or continuously flowing bodies of water "forming geographic features" that are described in ordinary parlance as "streams[,] ... oceans, rivers, [and] lakes." [7] are under the authority of the feds. nothing new here.

Federal Govt assumes control over Great Lakes, by executive order.

Currently, the Great Lakes is “the largest group of freshwater lakes on Earth.” The Great Lakes represent 20% of the world’s surface fresh water. That could change pretty quickly, with the Great Lakes being in the hands of the Federal State.

Yes, the interests of the Great Lakes is now the responsibility of an unelected Washington bureaucracy. It happened, quietly, through an executive order in July. And until recently, it was kept from the media. (Transparency was only an election year thing.

The EO that Obama signed is the same thing Bush had going as well. This current document revoked EO 13366, which was President Bush's EO. The EO's are pretty much exact duplicates of each other.

Executive order 13547 - Obama

Executive order 13366 - Bush

I live on Lake Michigan and the water is clear and pretty much pollution free as most business that polluted it are now in China. Like the goul things clean themselves in time. Every city on the lake gets it's water from it and puts clean water back in

"The treaty provides principles for Canada and the United States to follow in using the waters they share. For example, both countries must agree to any project that would change the natural levels or flows of boundary waters."

sorry to inform you that when the
North American Union (NAU) goes
onto effect, there will be no more
Canada or sovereignty or a treaty.
The lakes belong to the NAU,
otherwise known as the NWO.

Unfortunately you might be right.

...Unless maybe the Exec Order harmonizes with the treaty and Canadian law. The main issue is 'harmonization' for trade - and if BOTH nations prohibit global corporations from stealing public water for private profit, then the NAU doesn't have clear legal grounds to fight it. Maybe there's hope.

Has anyone checked to see if there are any oil / gas reserves under the great lakes?

I know that southern Ontario used to be a big oil producer at the turn of the last century(18 to 1900s) and that small wells still exist in the area.

Is someone trying to ensure that those potential resources remain under the control of the feds?

I remember watching some video about how the fresh water is getting harder and harder to find. In the future it was theorized, that a massive amount of people will start moving North in search of water. Eventually everyone in the U.S. will either die, or move North. The only thing is, the people up North are not going to be too happy to have all the refugees. Some people move to Canada or around the Great Lakes, or to Alaska. But the people who are already there are not going to be too happy with a massive amount of people. The people who move North are not going to be welcomed.

But some people know how to make a solar still or have bought these items that pull moisture from the air, and so they just stay behind.

Here is how to get water!
Build a solar still!
www.youtube.com...

I think it is probably better to stay behind, if you know how to get water. Even if the air is desert dry, you can still make a solar still. There is usually at least some water in the air and if you have means to pull it out, you can survive.

The hardest part would be that plants and animals would also have a hard time surviving without water. So even if you could get some water for yourself, if your surroundings are dying, then you would not be able to live off of dying land.
So if you are in an area that is normally wet, and it is suddenly dry, the animals and plants are not going to have time to adapt to that.
What you would need to do is instead of moving north, go to a desert area or an area that is already dry and has animals that are used to the conditions.

Some animals don't need a lot of water if they can get the water from plants. The best bet I guess is to learn about desert survival. What types of animals live in desert conditions?
Some small rodents, rabbits, lizards, and birds that hunt at night can be hunted by shining a light in their eyes. These animals get enough water from their food and don't drink much water. Some desert plants are edible and can provide vitamins. If you can make a solar still maybe you can survive in desert-like conditions. If you have some domesticated animals that survive well in dry areas and can provide milk and meat, you could survive.

If you know how to make an adobe-type structure like the Indians did, you can provide a home for yourself in the desert.
So you will raise some goats or desert animals for food. You will forage from what you can find in the desert. You will make large solar stills for water, or dig a well.

It wouldn't hurt to learn how to survive in different conditions. If you know how, then you can stay behind when others move. Then you can avoid being an unwelcome refugee.

If the SHTF, you do not want to go where everyone else is going. You will want to be away from other people. If you see hundreds of people going in one direction, then go the opposite way!
