Important news : US Military SOC and the mobile factories

The US Military Special Operations Command is building eight "mobile factories" that fit into standard shipping containers. These factories are based on the successful experience the US Army has had with something similar called the MPH.

The MPH was developed when the army realized that the easiest way to get the many rarely requested, but vital, replacement parts to the troops, was to manufacture the parts in the combat zone. In short order, this led to the construction of a portable parts fabrication system, called MPH, that fit into a standard 8x8x20 foot shipping container. The original version used two containers, but smaller equipment and more powerful computers eventually made it possible to use one container.

Absolutely. And now that 3D Mills are becoming mroe and more advanced, these things would be able to make temporary or permenant replacement parts for almost *anything*.

I view this as a double edged sword.
while the advance in technology is great
it leaves vast amounts of Americans
out of work. Humans are being replaced
by machines. Therefore eventually us
lower class humans will no longer be needed
and thusly exterminated as useless eaters.

The key problem is ressource : that is why we need a ressource based economy, or "sort of"

Energy will not be a problem in the futur.

The other key problem is the acceptation of the evolution ( this is not a revolution ) : I don't want the power, and most people don't want the power : so the elite just need to calm down a little bit. Because it work the other way around : if they are angry : people will be angry : and the elite must not forget human are the key of the society : and they have a lot of power alone and in community.

At 128mpg.com we are using this same technology right now to produce the XM-35 Switchblade 128 miles-per-gallon folding tactical motorcycle. It goes 30 miles per hour and is street-legal.

Our manufacturing process is fully net-integrated, robotic, CNC microproduction. It's lean, green, portable and real.

The power to MAKE THINGS REAL is the only true military power. Combat requires supply. Farmers are real power, machinists are true power, miners and drillers and refiners are the backbone of power. This won't reduce the labor force beyond a certain point, as the bots are so stupid you can't believe it until you learn FANUC G-Code. Humans are VERY necessary for design, setup, complex assembly and support.

If you want to MAKE something real, the tech is coming. Additive machining such as 3-d printing, subtractive desktop CNC, CAD/CAM.

Please. The American job market for machining has been pretty much dead for more than a decade. Pittsburgh and Detroit are so decrepit that in the former's case, many civic designers are seriously considering the idea that they may have to bulldoze most of the town before they can set up a livable modern city there.

The jobs that still do exist are mostly people managing CNC machines or robots. Like the kind of jobs required to run the sort of thing in the OP. You don't think something like that could run itself for long, do you? Eventually tools need to be changed, lubrication needs to be applied, calibrations need to be run, and of course the part being created has to be moved and aligned between steps that require different machines.
