IRAQ would take legal custody of Saddam Hussein and nine other high-profile prisoners soon after the country gained sovereignty on June 30, but US-led jailers would continue to guard them, a coalition official said today.

Why do coalition forces need to continue to hold Saddam and the other POWs? The separation between legal and physical custody here is odd as I don't see any particular reason for Saddam to be jailed under U.S. watch instead of Iraqi watch.

Maybe it does have to do with Saddam's wife exclaiming that the man in jail is not her husband.
