LL1 good points.

Not complete though.(I've never known of a Klan beheading- but that's a minor nit. Dead is dead.)

The Sons of Liberty fit your description as well, so do the SEALs, SAS, SBS, etc. (except the beheading)

The terrorists to fear are the ones in plain sight. Those guys that grabbed the planes wore no masks, carried no guns. The spies many nations have suffered with are also in plain sight. Suicide bombers sit in a car next to other people at traffic lights.

This hang-up many people have with masks is pointed the wrong way. People that wear masks want to be faceless and add to the terror, not hide for some cowardly reason. I venture to say that in every town in the U.S. (north and south) where the Klan held strong power the leadership was very well known.

Judges, Senators, policemen, doctors- many people of influence belonged. It's own power destroyed the Klan. arrogance

People that feel that power through intimidation does not produce elitism need to drop the bottle with a rubber nipple and take up a sobering brew. Brown Shirts, Klan, Fascists, rebels in every civil war and war of independence were the trash some posters refer to. This trash gave Americans liberty from British oppression, freed the slaves, threw off the Spanish and British yokes in country after country. This trash left Egypt with Moses, stayed at Valley Forge, manned the walls at the Alamo, breached the beaches on Guadalcanal and broke Hitlerian Europe, built every canal in the new world, built levees and roads, tamed rivers and conquered snow filled passes.
Trash indeed-
    preserved for posterity

Elitist? LOL, when mid to low-income white racists show up for KKK "meetings", ROFL, I'd hardly consider that "elitist."

Masonry has members from all walks of life . . . . janitors, bus drivers, managers, presidents, gardeners, students, teacgers, from the very wealthy, to the very poor.

Oh, and our Lodge Master, who is a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, works for a security company. And no, he's NOT the owner. He also drives a 1994 Dodge Intrepid.

Gadfly, your problem is that you paint EVERYBODY with a wide tar-brush. That's partly how you make your mistakes.

Gosh LTD, educate me on the other parts of my mistakes.

This is very interesting how people have the audacity to presume that they ACTUALLY know something regarding the greatest fraternity America has ever known. I will educate you regarding the real Klan.

1. The Fiery Cross- We light the Cross - with fire to signify to the world that Jesus Christ is the Light of the world. Where the Holy Light shall shine, there will be dispelled evil, darkness, gloom and despair. The Light of the Truth dispels ignorance and superstition as fire purifies gold and silver, but destroys wood and stubble. So by the fire of the Cross of Calvary, we cleanse and purify our virtues by burning out our vices with the fire of His Word. Who can look upon this symbol, or sit in its sacred Holy light without being inspired with a Holy desire and determination to be a better person?

THE SWORD
This unsheathed sword of steel Is a symbol of law enforcement. It represents the military, or enforcement powers of our government, from the president down to the constable. Its presence on our altar signifies that we as an organization, are solidly behind every enforcement officer in the land to help, aid and assist in the PROPER PERFORMANCE of their LEGAL duties. We stand unconditionally and unqualifiedly for the just and impartial enforcement of law, and for the defense and protection of all rights and privileges of all citizens alike.
This sword also signifies that we are set for the defense of our Flag and all that it symbolizes against the attack and invasion of every foreign power government sect ruler or people in the whole world. We believe in AMERICA FOR AMERICANS, and are sworn to defend it by all justifiable means and methods, from any encroachment whatever from any source whatever whether it be traitors within or enemies without. This sword is a constant reminder of our obligation to defend our country and enforce its laws, through DULY CONSTITUTED authorities and justifiable means and methods. May we wield it wisely and well in defense of our COUNTRY OUR HOMES OUR FLAG OUR LIBERTIES and HUMANITY.

I have read (can't remember where, sorry) that the cross burning is something the Scottish Highlanders use to do to call the clans to war. It was known as the Fiery Cross. They brought that tradition to the US when they immigrated pre-Revolution. Perhaps that's where the KKK got the idea to burn the cross?
