Nah..doesn't wash with me.

If there is enough of a reason to scramble interceptors, straining their afterburners to catch up to AF1, 'pilot rotation' and 'flight time' wouldn't remotely be a primary consideration.

The most efficient and expedient method to reach AF1 would have been employed as a primary consideration surely!

That would have to be the nearest base to AF1 at the time of the alert..when the POTUS is potentially in danger from an unknown threat, flight rotations are seriously not going to be high on the priorities list!

Maybe boondock-saint is onto something and the float plane is a cover.

And while you would think they should be there lickety split, they still have to spin up the engines get taxied and then recieve in air briefing. It still takes time, thats why AF1 has countermeasures.

It's beyond the wit and planning of the USAF to know the flightplan and exactly where AF1 is at any given time, and to spin up jets and crews ready on the tarmac at each base AF1 flies near in case of something having a pop at it?!

It's not difficult to work out is it?! AF1 flies within effective intercept range of AF base 'A', the crews are readied...AF1 flies out of effective intercept range, the crews stand down...AF1 flies within effective range of AF base 'B', the crews are readied and so on along the route of AF1 flightpath.

It's simple! As for being briefed, that can be done on the way...jets are equipped with comms!

You do understand that the USAF coordinates flight plans, logistics as well as operates AF1, correct? And while in country ( the U.S.) NORAD monitors and coordinates airspace. I think you misunderstand what I was saying. For one while in country AF1 rarely flies with an escort as the ready alert planes and squadrons are up. And also as I stated, I know they recieve thier briefing in flight when scrambled. There are instances when some ANG squadrons are set for ready duty for reasons "outside" of being feasible for the taxpayers. As for the "leap frogging" of ready squadrons you are correct they are based on flight paths.

dont the air force fly in formation? wouldnt this mean there would only be one boom even with multiple craft since they would boom at the same time? multiple booms is something disorganized, which is not like the formation loving air force.
