Afghanistan says finds 1.8 billion barrel oilfield

www.reuters.com

Afghanistan said on Sunday it had discovered an oilfield with an estimated 1.8 billion barrels in the north of the war-ravaged country, where U.S. and other foreign forces are trying to tame a Taliban-led insurgency.

"I do not know its price in the market. But the initial survey says there are 1.8 billion barrels of oil and I think there will be more than what it is estimated," he told Reuters.

Hmm, interesting. Look what's been hiding under the carpet all this time...

Add this to the estimated $USD 3 trillion in other natural resources (estimate was bumped up from $1 trn. to $3 trn in June)... suddenly the country starts seeming a whole lot more interesting (as if it already wasn't). Time will tell
who gets what...or how quickly this story drops off the MSM radar, too.

As Gomer Pyle used to say,"well surprise, surprise, surprise".

and I mean that very sarcastically.

Uh boy here we go...If true...
Betcha Bp is just salivating now....
If that oil gets on the market, the crude price will drop...so they are going to have to stay forever now for sure.
Gotta keep it in the ground.
Ironically if Afghanistan was to get it to market and drop the price to 35 bucks a barrel it would save the US economy...Can't have that though.

Oh, joy... more cruddy crude found.
If they want to find something worthwhile, then let them find some dilithium crystal deposits.

Let's hope the Afghan people will find a way to extract and sell it themselves. More money means more stability and prosperity. Prosperity lessen the chances of fomenting terrorism recruitment.

Funny, if only you knew why USSR and the US allowed corruption in Afghanistan.

People are so naive.

Exactly...

But if experience has taught us anything; the common Afghan's will still be living in poverty while the elite will be living in opulence and luxury. Much like the Native American rez'es where there is an abundance of oil and gas and casinos but people are still sick, hungry and living in abject poverty; still reliant on government handouts.

AmaZing they can find the pipeline, they can find the opium, and they can find the lithium, and they can find the resources, they can even find the oil...
But they can't find OBL?

PS
Oh Silly me, just change the the "B" to an "I"
there, problem solved.

Where's my boy Slayer69?

This plays right into the New Great Game.
The prize just got bigger with the oil if the resources weren't enough.
This oil find would be enough and close enough that Russia, if not China would be interested in making their own investments with a more open and stable Afghanistan. More than likely if anyone tries coming in to acquire that oil over the short term, the manpower is going to be imported whether from across the border or farther. The general population of Afghanistan is too ignorant and uneducated to be valuable cheap labor.

And Danbones, it's easier to take seismic measurements than it is to track a man whose trail went cold years ago.

Afghanistan says finds 1.8 billion barrel oilfield

Afghanistan and who?

Afghanistan says finds 1.8 billion barrel oilfield

The discovery of the basin between northern Balkh and Shiberghan provinces was made after a survey conducted by Afghan and international geologists, said Jawad Omar, a spokesman for the ministry of mines.

"I do not know its price in the market. But the initial survey says there are 1.8 billion barrels of oil and I think there will be more than what it is estimated," he told Reuters.

And where exactly is this new found oil?

Afghanistan said on Sunday it had discovered an oilfield with an estimated 1.8 billion barrels in the north of the war-ravaged country, where U.S. and other foreign forces are trying to tame a Taliban-led insurgency.

Funny how, if this area is sooo "war-ravaged", that they have geologists, or whatever they call these guys that look for oil, actually in this area doing seismic studies or whatever they do, trying to find oil.

What in the world were these guys doing there if it was a "war ravaged" area?

They must be pretty dedicated employees of their employer I guess.

They are trying to divide the country before the insurgency infects the north, which has been predominantly pro the occupation.

They will use this discovery (>????

These figures are based on the value of the resource as it sits in the ground - not what it is worth once dug up, refined and sold as a resource - so you can pretty much triple these figures.

Yeah - democracy - what a mind boggling coincidence.
