Russian S-300s in Abkhazia block possible Israeli air route to Iran

The deployment was also a message of reassurance from Moscow to Tehran: Although Russia is withholding the advanced S-300 interceptors from Iran it has its own methods for blocking an American or Israel raid on the Islamic Republic's nuclear facilities.

Yeah well, that's a shrewd move by the Russians, and necessary.

Let us not forget this story:

news.yahoo.com...

Iran claims to have received four S300 systems through "semiofficial" sources- whatever that's supposed to mean.

But think about it. What the Russians are doing here is to provide the Iranians just enough to repel a small Israeli attack at the four most key facilities, or at least try to, without loading the place down so full of S300's it presents a real problem for a NATO-led all out attack on Iran.

Because the Russians know the bigger scenario is just untenable. Things are proceeding about how they should, and in the right proportions. The Israeli threat is not necessarily eliminated, but it is more complicated. The Iranian threat is still minimal. Remember, Iran has never attacked ANYONE first. EVER.

The recent declassification of documents regarding Israeli influence at the highest places in the US gives the Israelis a new PR nightmare to deal with. And people are increasingly not buying MSM propaganda.

Nope, I don't think Israel is going to attack Iran. Not until nuclear weapons are confirmed in their possession. Eventually Israel will have to live with a nuclear powered Iran, and trust the Russians to keep Iran's nuclear capabilities contained to a degree.

Well, if nothing else, I'd say so far the US has done a reasonable job of keeping the Western Hemisphere's nuclear weapons out of the hands of the overly unscrupulous. Have fun Russia taking care of your part of the world.
