In short and in plain English

"Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."

- Hermann Goering
- Nuremberg Trial.

Use your brain don't abuse it.

"I wouldn't vote for anyone or anything unless the vote could be retracted later on. "

So therefore you don't vote?

Think he may have meant he wouldn't vote for a Dictatorship, where you may not be given the chance to vote again. ie a non-democratic regime with no elections.

not entirely true. He got huge backing with his anti-semetic rants at his rallies, as he blamed the jews on the economic loss that Germany was suffering. Usually the ones getting the shops smashed were jewish owned. His ability to talk at his speeches was suppose to be what drove the Nazi's to power, he was meant to be able to speak like no one else, (pity i dont know any German and could hear for myself). Infact i read somewhere that he dabbled in the occult to get his ability to talk to crowds, though that is a different thread altogether.

I listened to one of his speeches from the year 1933.

I can assure you that that man had a gift. I would vote for him after that speech.

If good people got behind the actions of Bush, then of course they would have loved Hitler.

Thats partially true, the SA thuggery accounted for some of it especially later.

However, he gathered a powerful genuine following as a non communist alternative to the failed Wiemar years. He was well funded by corporations, many American, who thought he was a better bet than communism.

The people were desperate. In times of desperation you reach for a scapegoat and for somebody promising an easy fix. This applies everywhere.

However, people didn't vote for dictatorship. Whats interesting is how they turned a 35% vote share in a democracy into an absolute dictatorship. Hitler and the NSDAP maneuvered the democratic institutions to grant them the power to devolve the democracy itself. Cleverly done and worth reading into.

The lesson learned is never ever allow any government to accrue special emergency powers allowing it to suspend or amend the normal democratic process. Emergencies are easily manufactured and manipulated.

The Treaty of Versailles was much more than a simple disarm of Germany. The Treaty, in a nutshell, meant that Germany alone accepted responsibility for WW1. Other countries involved signed other treaties, however Germany not only had to disarm, but also had to pay reparations which would have taken them until 1988 to pay off.

Knowing what we now about Adolf Hitler, it is so easy to say "I would never have voted for him" but I'm a bit of a WW2 history buff, after seeing some of his speeches that have been translated, and understanding the situation at the time in Germany, I can honestly say that yes, Adolf Hitler more than likely would have gotten my vote.

In truth, an argument can be made that Adolf Hitler is the best economist in history. He literally turned Germany around, from the brink of a third world country to a superpower of it's time.

Obviously you havn't read: "The Communist Manifesto", and you don't know much about Marxism. Maybe you don't know the difference between Fascism and Communism.... (hint: there's a big one). National Socialism is nothing like and has nothing to do with Marxism.

i didnt say it was like it i said it had similar qualities. Let me explain what i meant as to be honest i did sound silly. Marx wanted us all to work together, proletarit working for themselves, after overthrowing the bourgouisie in the revolution. Hitler wanted all the German people to work together for the sake of the state, if you weren't working for it, you were no use. That was the similarity i was drawing on, that both wanted the masses to work together. Sorry i never went in to detail, my mistake

Being a German I often deal with Nazi Germany topics because people ask me these things. To answer the OP's question: Yes I would have wanted Hitler in power. He was a charismatic beacon of hope to a Germany that was socially and financially devastated after WW1's Treaty of Versailles.

The amount of resentment in returning veterans that couldn't understand Germany surrendering when the front lines didn't (or barely? need to look that up again) cross into German territory. There was universal unhappiness and a feeling of weakness, loss of pride and desperation.

What Hitler promised was a strong Germany and he made his case well. The only alternative would have been to support the Communists and that really wasn't something the people wanted. They wanted strength, discipline and pride, two traits Germany inherited from Prussia.

Hitler was the man to provide this. He did it too, there was a lot to admire about Nazi Germany. But I don't have to explain what happened next. The People were then powerless to stop the change. An excess of control was enforced and the new generations were already conditioned through youth camps and special education to support the regime.

Youth camps, public works, rallies and all the other social functions don't strike me as such a bad idea on their own. It's like turning your entire country into one big sports team, having everyone WANT to positively chip in for the COUNTRY. Yet people crave power and control and thus abuse these functions for their own wishes.

Yes I would have voted for Hitler and then I would have been a very sad sad pandaaaa....

All the best,
T
