The Netherlands are leaving...

So after four years of fighting in Afghanistan, the Netherlands are now completely pulling out of this country because political pressure demanded that we do so.

The numbers fade in comparison to countries like the U.S. but the death toll stands at 21 causalities over the course of 4 years.

Now here's my question:

Did those 21 die in vain??

unfortunately yes, hopefully the world can learn from these wars, like we should of learnt from Vietnam.

You would think that but that's not what I am trying to get at...

Regardless of any point of view:

Why were we there?

What did we accomplish?

These are questions that can be answered by just using the facts. No viewpoint is necessary for answering these questions.

Yes they died in vain.

However, they signed up for the militairy themselves and knew the risks.

It seems that our militairy is always put in impossible scenarios by our government, just to look good politically.

There was a time when I wanted to join our army, but I realised that I would have to let go of my principles and sell my soul.

well the taliban retaliated against its "creator" end of the 90's then, what an infamie, put a stop to heroin production.

we had to go back to get back our control on this highly geo-strategical place

the operations have been entriely successfull; heroin production is at its highest ever

corporations are ready to harvest the amazing resources that are in the mountains (gold, tungstene etc) and oleoduc are well secured while afghani are too much dead, poor or busy in civil fighting to pay any attention to the robbery that is about to happen.

The last staff arrived here days ago.

We would also still be there if a government party did not cause the fall of the cabinet.
Did they die in vain ? I would say yes.

But... look at it from the bright side. The 21 death have had the luck to experience death while they were still young and healthy. Just imagine how popular you would be in the afterlife when it turns out you will look like the way you did when you died... ( Sarcasm.)

in my opinion those soldiers didn´t die in vain, they died for Uncle Sam´s greater good.
