Indian FM Dismisses Sanctions against Iran as Unfruitful Measure

"International sanctions against Iran will not solve any problem," Krishna said on Friday, adding that Tehran's nuclear issue should be resolved through interaction with the IAEA.

Despite the rules enshrined in the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) entitling every member state, including Iran, to the right of uranium enrichment, Tehran is now under four rounds of UN Security Council sanctions for turning down West's calls to give up its right of uranium enrichment.

India has not been for these sanctions all along. They have of course gone along with them. Their primary concern, as is China's, is in keeping the chokepoints in the Middle East to Asia opened.

Right now, Iran controls the most massive block of land the pipelines flow through (water/natural gas/oil) and has geographical proximity to one of the most major chokepoints by sea...the Strait of Hormuz.

India expressed concerns both before and after this lastest round of sanctions against Iran, as far back as April this year...two months before the UN sanctions were agreed on. If India had a vote on the Security Council, things might have turned out a bit differently.

The sanctions impact India's energy security.
