From correspondents in Berlin
June 19, 2004
THE German Parliament has adopted a new law making it possible for the military to shoot down a civilian aircraft if it believes the plane is being used in a terrorist attack.
The law will allow the defence minister, in the likelihood of a "particularly grave accident", to authorise the military to fire on a hijacked jet, like those used in the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States.

I suppose its fair enough that Germany has passed these laws. Shooting down a plane would be the last resort but it would be the sensible thing to do if many more lives were at risk than those on the plane. I wonder if any other European counties have passed any laws to this effect since 9/11.
