Well said! I see many of my acquaintances working two jobs and still losing their homes, all the while paying the taxes that allow for the lavish trips. They would not be able to go on eight vacations this summer if they were not spending taxpayer dollars for the flight, the secret service and whatnot. I don't care if she did pay for part of her trip she has to understand that the situation is grave and appearances DO matter. Even if they intend it to be a one term trip they should at least pretend to care about those they claim to lead!
Yes, her life should be dictated (at least while her husband is POTUS) by the condition of the country. She doesn't seem to care.

It's perfectly clear that Michelle the Wookie has now become an embarrassment to this administration.

Her lavish spending sprees and blatant disregard for the American taxpayer will be more evident as we approach the next election and she realizes her hubbie may be a one termer. She will milk us for all we're worth.

The people who say "She should have taken a vacation here in America" would have complained that she shouldn't have taken a vacation at all if she had done so.

Explain how taking a vacation here is worse than taking a vacation in Spain. Shes helping the spanish economy, but giving the US economy the bird while she prances around on a US taxpayer jet, along with US taxpayer funded guards.

Believe it or not, 'Merica exists in a world populated by other countries, and it is important for us to maintain good relations with our allies, as it is for them to maintain with us.

Good relations don't happen quickly or easily. Maintaining a good international posture takes effort. Her trip is one facet of our international policy. Yes, it was a vacation; yes, it was part business. YES it did matter.

Can the First Lady visit other countries? YES, SHE CAN. Just like every other First Lady before her. It is an implied part of the job, as it will be for the next First Spouse.

In fact, I believe that Sarah Palin will be elected President, and her husband shall take many trips overseas in such a role, only he might be called the First Mister. Unfortunately, if this happens, the Russians might invade our country, aided by Chinese sympathizers and North Korean sleeper agents.

A LOT of fuss has been made over her vacation. Really? Why, I wonder, are the people who are upset about her vacation REALLY that upset about it? Perhaps they've been steered this way and manipulated by the mainstream media who has tried to make this more important than it really is. How many previous First Ladies got to take vacations without an uproar? Just about every darn one of them. So, why can't Michelle Obama do the same? Maybe they feel she is unworthy for some reason...

I don't think this deserves to be dismissed. The unemployment rate is going back up and they say we are headed for that double-dip recession everyone keeps talking about. And during the election of 2008, Obama's camp would have us believe that Cindy McCain was the lavish big spender. Meanwhile, the 'royal' family continues luxurious trips and vacations while American citizens out of work desperately seek employment. Sure those may have been considered typical Bush vacations but it didn't involve tax payers, passports or 40 close friends.

Why is doubling the number of vacations a Prez and his family is allowed to take okay all of sudden?

On August 14, he and his family are scheduled to visit Florida's Gulf Coast for the weekend to get some R&R and show the country that the region is still open for business despite the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The Obamas will start their main summer vacation on August 19 when they go to Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts, an elite island retreat, for 10 days.

Michelle really wasn't in Spain for vacation, she met with the Saudis.
