They say that the pensioner had his car smashed after refusing to pull over because he didn't had his seatbelt on.

Another example of police brutality here in the uk, only except here police can get in trouble with the courts unlike their u.s. counterparts, although right now there is only an ivestigation into this incident.

But what is there to investigate? All the evidence is right there on the video.

Once again, the video only shows one side of the story.

The police attempted to issue him a ticket, at a prior stop. He drove off, knocking over an officer.

This is the subsequent stop, from what I understand. He's actually lucky. Hitting a LEO in any country with your car has resulted if FAR worse endings.

And, police brutality to the car?

When the police pull you over, stop. Don't try to flee.

I'm sure this has already been posted somewhere but I could be wrong. As for the incident itself; it was definitely an overreaction by the police but Whatley was no saint either...

A court heard yesterday that Mr Whatley was originally pulled over in a country lane in Monmouthshire by traffic police who tried to issue him with a fine for not wearing a seat belt.

So he HAD broken the law...

But when an officer went round to the passenger side, the car lurched forward and he was knocked over.

...he then drove off because he thought the matter had been dealt with, felt ‘frail and vulnerable’ and was worried he would suffer another stroke.

So then he knocks over an officer and drives off...

The police followed him for 17 minutes. Mr Whatley said he thought the blue lights and siren of the police car meant the officers were giving him an escort home.

And then believes the police car with SIREN and FLASHING LIGHTS was merely escorting him home.

I'm sorry but a 70 year old successful business man can not be that naive, can he?

This of course doesn't excuse the actions of the police who were out of order, but this isn't a simple case of police brutality.

Mr Whatley was found guilty of not wearing a seatbelt, failing to stop for a police officer and having tinted car windows which did not conform to legal requirements but cleared of failing to stop after an accident.

He also admitted having a registration plate which did not adhere to regulations.

source

Although some newspapers will twist this to show how the British police forces have become violent and uncontrollable. Especially when they use the following quote by Whatley - ‘It’s something you might expect in America but not in the quiet of the British countryside.’

However, some might see this as a rich and successful businessman who believes he is above the law.

So there was more then meets the eye when it came to this OAP breaking the law, but that dosen't give the police officers a reason to smash up his car like that.

The BBC witholding the most of the story just to show the video to make the police look bad, well done BBC, you fooled me.(sarcasm)

Trouble is Police around the world is that there is an 'Us and Them' attitude, for example you , a civilian hurt an Officer of the law, and they'll go hammer and tongs to get you and issue you their own personal brand of 'justice', and I'm not talking about the courts issued justice, but they hurt you and you watch them get away with it.

No wonder there is a stereotype that cops are overweight, slow, clumsy, and eat way too many doughnuts.

Make them work for their money.

Give them a work out. Work those pounds off.

They will thank you in the long run, it's for their own good!

In 2004 when he was 64 Robert Clive Whatley was assaulted by police officer PC Jonathan Ellis after he tried to nick him for road traffic offences.

Robert Clive Whatley was eventually cleared of all charges in 2004 and the officer found guilty of the his assault but only AFTER the same Police officer pleaded Guilty to stealing £80 from a Purse after being caught in a sting operation by his own colleagues

Robert Clive Whatley wins lawsuit and buys a nice shiny range rover with personal registration plate “E3RASS” = HARRASS and the Police want to “get him back” So 6 years later the opportunity is taken to do him

The officers are so brave in this clip. The guy they are trying to apprehend is 70 YEARS OLD.

Look how brave the supercop is who jumps up on his bonnet. Wow! He is a real hero.

Hey, you've exposed the real truth behind it all.

Cops are human.

We should abolish them for good.

Fu(k social order. We don't need to enforce that at all.

end sarcasm.

Give a solution or two. Problems are easy to find.

Social order... right?

Hi Pal,

can you please confirm the source that has stated he knocked over a cop. Did the cop die? end up needing serious medical attention? need any medical attention or perhaps hit the old fellas vehicle a kick so they could go after him.

SOURCE PLEASE!

(I'm guessing by your comments you are in fact some sort of cop. This doesn't mean you have to justify all the dumb fckers actions. Don't take the criticism personally.)

Plus the fact that he ignored the police for 17 minutes before pulling over, he was most definitely in the wrong here.

I was waiting for the cop to reply with this but seeing as you jumped the gun.

As you stated , the car lurched forward. He probably started in gear or something bloody stupid like that. ITs a bloody 70 year being harrassed by jack boot bastards.

DId you not see this piece in the article you quoted as source:

"Mr Whatley was found guilty of not wearing a seatbelt, failing to stop for a police officer and having tinted car windows which did not conform to legal requirements but cleared of failing to stop after an accident. "

Are you BLIND or maybe your a cop too?

No mention of anything bout him knocking over cops. This is why none of the tv reports are mentioning this becuase it is BS.

I cannot fking believe people are trying to support the actions of the cops in this video.

Not a cop and certainly not blind, but what I am is someone who sees a man commit several crimes refuses to stop when the police signal him to.

With the recent happening regarding police shootings I think that maybe the force is a tad wary of people who refuse to pull over after 17 minutes of sirens and flashing lights.

Which could explain their ridiculous overreaction to the situation. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I have not once supported the action of the police in that video, maybe you are the one who is blind?

Perhaps his vision is a little poor and how long ago was it that he took his driving test ???

And how big and powerful is the vehicle that possibly visually impaired pensioner is Driving ?????

Just thoughts out loud.....

That pretty much sums it up for me m8... Very balanced and fair reply

Sounds like some elements of the media want to paint an image of police brutality against a frail old pensioner... Frail old pensioner in is 4x4 with tinted windows and no seatbelt
