This is the same plague that killed one third of the population in europe in the 14th century.

It sure is a good thing we're not drinking fouled up water, taking bucket baths once a week or so. The bubonic flu wouldn't spread like it did back in the 14th century. What was it, 30% of Europe that got wiped out, but only like 10% of Asia? Sanitation.

The former is transmitted by flea bites, the latter by airborne contagion. The disease is curable if treated early with antibiotics.

It seems there's a fair deal of evidence, although many of the studies were done decades ago and the originals are hard to come by, that ascorbic acid (vitamin-c) in large enough doses kills flu's and respiratory infections. You need very high doses, and most likely will need to be IV or else or else muscular shots, however, it is noted that the more your body needs vitamin-c, the higher the absorption rate becomes, so maybe you could fend it off with large oral doses.

what happens if this mutated?
im only 16 so i dont know a whole lot about this but, is it possible that it could over come the antibiotics and a new epidemic?

could there be a downside to sanitation in the sense that were to clean and our immune systems aren't as strong as they maybe were back then?

Also i don't suppose anyone's manufacturing very large amounts of antibiotics all of a sudden are they?

As for a cure it looks like some antibiotics take care of it as it
is a bacteria, and here in the US the common vector is prairie dogs.
