Now this is an odd story if there ever was one.

Remember Bush v Gore? Ted Olson vs David Boies? Well the old rivals that determined the 43rd president of the United States in the US Supreme Court have joined forces over the pass couple of months to fight prop 8 in federal court.

Yes, that Ted Olson. Arch-conservative, pillar stone of the conservative legal movement Ted Olson. Fighting for equal rights.

Today in San Fransisco a decision will finally come concerning prop 8. Either which way the ruling goes, it will inevitably end up in appeals and eventually the supreme court.

The significance of this doesn't lie only on the fact that this will be the start of some major historic court decisions for this country, but the motivation behind Ted Olsen. He seems quite heartfelt and sincere in believing that prop 8 is unconstitutional. I think this is evidence of a big shift going on in the conservative establishment, moving away from the neo-conservative, fundie Christian angle towards constitutional integrity and the protection of natural rights in the US. It's happening, slowly but surely.
