s & f.

never been to that site. loved the lists. the fake-actor-name one is pretty funny.

the devil-horns hand gesture that many think is a secret signal for Satan worshipers
and evildoers everywhere, also means "I love you" in sign language

If a straight line is an archetypal symbol of heterosexuality, does that mean parallel lines are an archetypal symbol for bisexuals? Sometimes this Jungian thought gets waaayyyyy out there.

S & F because in the last 6 months I've learned more from Cracked (and the attendant comments) than I ever did in school. Even when they only get things half right it's a ton o' fun to research the info on my own. They lead me down paths I'd never have taken before.

Well the thing on Thomas Paine isn't quite accurate.

People hold a misconception about Libertarianism. It isn't one specific political philosophy encompassing only capitalistism and small government. Really in the end, Libertarianism is just about liberty.

Exactly! The term was originally used by Anarchists, of the socialist type.

In Webster's New International Dictionary, the definition of 'Libertarian' is stated to be: "One who holds to the principle of free will; also, one who upholds the principles of liberty, esp. individual liberty of thought and action." Clearly, in comparison to the authoritarian Soviet Union and Red China of the 1940's and 50's, liberal capitalism could be made to appear more "libertarian" than socialism if one were to accept that China and the USSR were the definitive examples of "socialism". But, if one were to have listened to the original socialistic libertarians (the anarchists) all along, it would have been clear that both the "socialism" of so-called "Communist" countries, and the idea of a "libertarian (or anarcho-) capitalism" were a farce.

Libertarian Socialism.

BTW that's a stretch to call Guevara a racist because he used his own revolutionaries. I mean he was there to help them not rob them like the Europeans were doing. Every social revolutionary is attacked by the right and their quotes misrepresented and taken out of context of the times etc.

Actually Che was a hardcore racist. He HATED black people with a passion.

Great. But the fundies I know don't consider anyone the antichrist. As seeing as I am one and do not either, and that most all the goths where I am say that it's an anti Christ symbols, I'd say you're kind of wrong. More or less, welcome to the word. Glad your community is more intelligent, but in the end, it is generally accepted as an antichrist symbol and generally forgotten to originate with St. Peter. In a nation where 1/3 thing the Sun revolves around the earth, I would not expect your case to be the norm.

I am really sick of people thinking that Texas is some how filled with red necks and cowboy. This guy seems to pick on the state twice in one article. The thing about the Alamo is reaching just a bit and no one here cares about the stupid litter slogan that came out more than a decade ago.

I am from longview I here ya. The media doesn't really represent texas well. Everyone is told my the MSM/Hollywood that...

-Texas is full on dumb hicks
Every state has hicks so what?
-strange cowboy/rancher caricatures for some reason
I was born in texas and the only cowboys I saw were throwing footballs
-bad/overdone texan accents
please stop
-think we are arrogant and loud
some of the most meek and down to earth people I met were in the south. In places like chicago, cleveland, philly and nyc everyone is stuck up
-think we are all conservatives
I am not. There are alot of libertarians in texas.

Who didn't back them. Western sociaty pretty much declared anyone who wasn't a european christian was a savage.

How did the spaniards feel towards the native americans?

I don't believe that from the quotes I've read. He was very critical but those criticisms were not based on race.

You also have to consider the times, the language he used was not considered racist in those times.

Why would he try help the Africans break from their bondage by Europe if he hated them?

BTW I note your need to point this out without anything to support your claim, why so quick to discredit?

Even Gandhi can be accused of racism...

Excellent thread. It is pretty amusing to see the Black Metal fans use the upside down cross as a symbol for their oh so evilness....if only they knew how damn Holy it was.

Actually Anton Lavey, you know founder of the Church of Satan has stated that he employs it to mean sacrifice. Now if you know the Christian meaning of the symbol and its history you know it is used by Christians to symbolize "sacrifice." Well, they used to.

The reason it is funny is because when a Satanist employs that symbol, he knows and understand the Christian meaning of it. Then it offends some "Christian" who does not out of their own ignorance.

That is what is funny.

This article barely even scratched the surface of Che. He was a racist and just an all around terrible person who spent his life looking for trouble and killing people in the process. Most of what people know about Che has been published (and edited) by the Castro regime and is straight up propoganda. But for some reason people overlook this fact and act like everthing they read is compleate fact.

I suggest people who are idolizing Che read the book "Exposing the real Che Guevera: and the useful idiots who idolize him". It's written by a Cuban and has many stories of Cubans and their personal experiences with Che. Call me crazy but I'd belive these peoples stories over the ones put out by Castro any day.

The man was absolutely terrible and it's really amazing how so many worship the guy and walk around with T-shirts of him.

Star and flag....but only because of the parts about Texas lol. "Don't mess with Texas" was a warning by the Department of Transportation to war TEXANS not to litter LOL. They have been parading that dead horse of a line around since 1985. Tryng to make it sound threatening to "outsiders" (or civilized people). The Alamo was because Mexico outlawed slavery and Texas wanted to keep their slaves,....some American inspiration LOL. I am American, but I have always considered Texas to be the bathroom of the country......and guess what? SO DOES THE THE REST OF THE WORLD! Texans think that everyone likes them and respects them but thats because thats what they tell each other every day. Let's see, there are twenty four million, seven hundred eighty two thousand, three hundred and two people that live in Texas right now, they should probably ask one of the five billion, nine hundred seventy-five million, two hundred seventeen thousand, six hundred ninety-eight people who live outside of their bathroom door. HA.

One thing I don't get..
Regarding Crazy Horse, the article says that he supposedly never had his picture taken, and yet at the beginning of the article there is a picture of a Native American which seems to be Crazy Horse..

Also, when I do a quick google search of Crazy Horse that same image comes up although the few sites I've looked at also say that most scholars agree that there is no authentic picture of Crazy Horse.

Someone help please because this is a bit perplexing...Maybe I'm missing something obvious.

Here's the image btw:
