I have been seeing this on the news this morning, "Haphazard Firefighting Might Have Sunk BP Oil Rig". I thought this would fit into the discussions that the GoM oil disaster was an intentional act.

As part of an ongoing government investigation, Coast Guard officials are trying to reconstruct the initial response to the rig explosion that unleashed one of the worst environmental disasters in U.S. history. One concern surrounds the use of briny seawater instead of fire-retardant foam to drench the rig.

Also another article here: www.publicintegrity.org...

My husband did Navy training at Great Lakes several years again & I remember him talking about his firefighting training and that there are certain techniques for fighting a fire when it involves metal. Does anyone know if the Coast Guard receives such training?

It seems to me if this was an intentional act, using seawater on the fire would almost guarantee the rig was brought down.
