Seems like they are still recovering from the juggalos

But what I was saying about the way it has been portrayed to me, it's dirty, horrid economy, crime infested.

Now I am not saying that is 100% true, but they are worried about the image, I'd say it already has a bad image.

But thats a stereotype,

Also you forgot all the cool electronic music coming out of Detroit over the years

Any city can be bad, and you can find "trouble" if you look for it.

Yeah that techno festival every year is quite nice. Not my cup of tea, I prefer the jazz fest. Still, I guess Detroit's very hip in Europe these days, because of techno, and the rise of "ruin porn." Urban explorers, it's the cool thing to do.

Anyway, I can't say Detroit's bad image has not been earned, especially with the cycle of corrupt and moronic political figures the city's dealt with for decades, not to mention the segregation. Just look at this map showing how segregated the region is: Red = white, blue = black, orange = hispanic, green = Asian. Edit: Sorry, each dot is 25 people.

Map of Detroit by Race

Still, it's my home, I defend it, and people can't really understand the place if all they see are bad news headlines.

I've lived on the boarder of Detroit my whole life. I live a block away from where the movie 8 mile was filmed. Detroit is messed up there is a lot of crime. The inner city is run down with vaccant houses and factories everywhere. I smoke outside and at night I hear gunshots two or three times a week.

But I can tell you one thing Detroit isnt half as bad some other cities. My grandmother lived in Florida and I use to go down and spend the summer there. Detroit has nothing on some of the crimes I saw on the news down there. One news cast sticks out in particular "Severd head found in Ocala nation forest". There as some serious hick weirdOs in Florida. At least in michigan they find the bodies down there they eat them. You hardly ever hear stuff like that in Michigan. Mostly it's just gun toating idiots killing eachother over drug deals and stuff.

I've been robbed at knife point and I've been shot at by a complete stranger for no reason. But I wouldn't live anywhere else I love Michigan. Living in a small town would bore the hell out of me.

Let me bring up some statistics on the crime rate in the City of Detroit, Michigan.

An FBI report from 2008 shows that the number of violent crimes in the city dropped by 11.6% from the year before. Between 2000 and 2004, the overall crime rate had dropped by 23.4% throughout the entire city. Another study in 2006 showed that crime in the downtown area of Detroit was below both the state and national average crime rates. However, the number of murders in Detroit rose in 2009 to 379 compared to 375 murders citywide during 2008. This represents a six percent increase in the murder rate from the previous year. Also, the murder rate dropped by twenty percent during the second half of 2009 compared to the year before. Just to show how far it has dropped, in 1974 there were 714 murders in the city itself. In 1991, there were 615 murders in Detroit during the year. However, as with most cities, around sixty eight percent of all murders in Detroit showed that narcotics were the catalyst behind the murders.

Also, a study released about a year ago by the Detroit Police Department's Crime Analysis Unit shows that crimes haves dropped by twenty four percent since casino gambling was introduced. Now what I am about to type here is pretty much the case these days. When the unemployment rate goes up so does the crime rate with it.

I know for a fact that we have been having problems with drug dealers coming down here to push their products. The police down here are doing their best to keep the trouble down to a minimum. So far, what the police have been doing down here to curb the problem is working and working very well.

Slightly off topic, but I turned the show off after they went to American Coney Island. And they said "soda," not "pop." Kind of disappointed.
