You may recall my thread from last week about a man involved in a shootout with the California Highway Patrol. It went something like this:
www.abovetopsecret.com...

*SNIP*

Well now we have the rest of the story. It appears that I was right in saying that Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachmann, and Sharon Angle's "Second Amendment remedies" talk was spot on, but William's himself has fingered Glenn Beck as the inspiration for his plot of violence.

OAKLAND, CA (KGO) -- Oakland police say I-580 shootout suspect Byron Williams was headed to San Francisco to commit mass murder when he was stopped by the California Highway Patrol. He made his first court appearance Tuesday.

Court documents released Tuesday say Williams told investigators he intended to start a revolution by traveling to San Francisco to kill people at the ACLU and the Tides Foundation, an organization that says it promotes economic justice.

"His plan was to go there and wait until it opens up in the morning; our investigators brought up to him that those organizations are probably closed on Sundays and he said he was going to wait until they opened up," Oakland Police Department spokesperson Jeff Thomason said.

The ACLU declined to comment formally on the news Tuesday; but one person said in passing, "it comes with the territory." The Tides Foundation said they had never heard of Williams' and did not know why he would target the organization.
abclocal.go.com.../local/east_bay&id=7565389

Well I can tell the Tides Foundation why he was going to murder them. Starts with a "B" and ends in "eck"!

The Tides Foundation is George Soros' philanthropic charity. We all know how Glenn Beck and Fox love to hate them some George Soros.

karoli sums it up very well from the Crooks and Liars website:crooksandliars.com...
Here are some recent headlines from top right wing sites. I won't link them or quote them, but let's see what they say.
* July 19, 2010: FoxNation: Soros-Funded Group Wants Feds to Probe Talk Radio * July 21, 2010: Big Journalism: There You Go Again: Soros Comes to America
* June 23, 2010: Soros Says Germany Could Cause Euro Collapse - FOXBusiness.com
* June 22, 2010: 'Glenn Beck:' Soros Poised to Profit? - Glenn Beck - FOXNews.com
* July 6, 2010: Oliver Stone Lunches With George Soros | The FOX
Why does the right wing, and particularly Fox, hate Soros so much? As far as I can tell, there's no rational explanation. I did, however, find an irrational explanation on a weird, off-the-beaten path right wing blog.
Here's a summary: George Soros is a foreigner who came from a "socialist country", allegedly supports organizations promoting child molestation (he doesn't), supported the Solidarity movement in Poland (he did), and donated money toward George Bush's 2004 defeat (he did, but so did a lot of people).
Mostly, it's irrational ginned up stupid fear of absolutely nothing. His name isn't Koch, therefore he is evil. That's as rational as anything.
More baffling, actually, is the ACLU. For all of those liberty lovers, the ACLU should be their very, very best friend, because the ACLU loves the constitution just as much as any true teabagger. So why do they hate the ACLU? Here are some headlines:
* July 20, 2010: ACLU Wants Prayer Banner Expelled « FOX News Radio
* July 19, 2010: Black Hills Fox - ACLU warns of travel to Arizona
* September 10, 2009: Raw Story » Fox guest: ACLU defense teams should be jailed
* July 20, 2010: Judge OKs Lying About Military Service - Fox News, blaming the ACLU for bringing the lawsuit
* July 19, 2010: Beck: Does Presidential Assassination Program Exist? (Beck alleges the President could even assassinate the ACLU)
Not a week goes by without at least three stories about the ACLU threatening the frightened viewer's freedom and liberty. Penis pumps for illegals? Fox News blames the ACLU. American Taliban lawyer going after Arizona's immigration law? Blame the ACLU. Tourism down in Arizona? Blame the ACLU.
This is how these wingers operate. They make bogeymen out of anyone and any organization that doesn't fall into lockstep with their thinking. And they just don't care when some deranged fool takes their bloviation seriously, loads up the truck, puts on the body armor, and sets out on a mission to 'start a revolution'.

Here is Glenn Beck in action

Continued:

Here is Media Matters on this subject:
crooksandliars.com...

We don't know what Williams was watching, or that television played a role in his decision to target Tides. However, if it did, according to our Nexis searches, the primary person on cable or network news talking about the Tides Foundation in the year and a half prior to the shootout was Fox News' Glenn Beck.

According to our searches, since Beck's show premiered on January 19, 2009, Tides has been mentioned on 31 editions of Fox News programs, 29 of which were editions of Beck's show (the other two were on Sean Hannity's program). In most of those references, Beck attacked Tides, often weaving the organization into his conspiracy theories. Two of those Beck mentions occurred during the week before Williams' shootout.

On July 14, Beck said:

"You believe that America is the last best hope for the free world. Boy, was I a moron for believing that. Nope, there are a lot of people that believe that we are the oppressor. This man states it. He states in this book "The purpose is to create mass organizations to seize power." Wow! That almost sounds like the Tides Foundation."

On July 13, Beck said:

"Well, they have the education system. They have the media. They have the capitalist system. What do you think the Tides Foundation was? They infiltrate and they saw under Ronald Reagan that capitalists were not for all of this nonsense, so they infiltrated. Now, they are using failing capitalism to destroy it."

mediamatters.org...

All of this -- particularly the vicious attacks on the Tides Foundation -- constitutes a classic example of eliminationist rhetoric -- something Beck has been doing for a long time, with progressives as his main target. Beck always tries to claim that he's being victimized and his free speech attacked whenever this is pointed out -- even though link between hateful rhetoric and violent behavior is a well-established one with a long and sorrowful track record.

crooksandliars.com...

Who, me unleash violent nutcases? Beck wonders why the concern about the Tides Foundation -- but doesn't mention shooter -
crooksandliars.com...

I am sure there will be some that will try and come on here and say the "lame stream media" won't cover Tides because of their liberal bias. If you believe that all other media are biased except the one telling you they aren't, get real. So all other channels are lying, except the one channel telling you all other channels are lying? Yep, Fox News is not a news channel, it's a CULT!!!

Last week's thread had some interesting posts, like these nuggets:

mnemeth1: "He got in a shoot out with police because he was facing the three strikes rule.
His shoot out had nothing to do with "revolution" and everything to do with retarded laws.
Laws created by democrats to keep minorities enslaved forever.
The man went on a shooting spree because he was under the threat of arrest.
I'm simply pointing out that he waged war because he thought he had nothing left to lose.
Well he may have had murderous intentions, but clearly this has nothing to do with his political ideology as was put forth originally.
The notion that he intentionally armed himself in order to wage a personal revolutionary war is ridiculous."

How ridiculous is it now, mnwmeth1? So "three strike" laws created by democrats were to blame? Had nothing to do with political ideology? I await your full and complete retraction. I'm sure it will be a while.

endisnighe: "12 gauge is sowing the seeds of discontent.
I would actually say that her actions to further divide the populace goes further than the nutbag in the OP.
As all tyrants believe, if everyone were to just give up their rights for security, everything will be fine.
12 gauge is a PERFECT moniker for her. She definitely would hold a gun to everyone's head if in power, just like the tyrants she extols.
Why do all tyrants believe that freedom and liberty must be crushed to further their Utopian ideals?
All hail 12 gauge Mao."

So, endisnighe, it's me who is sowing the seeds of discontent? While you're hailing me, you can also apologize and admit you were wrong. Again, I won't hold my breath.

Bournefighter: "I'm so glad it is coming to this, it is the only way. Gonna get some liberals."

Nice. Here is a classic example of how right wing media has demonized liberals, and Bournefighter is the expected result. I'll be looking for him on the evening news sometime real soon. Probably with a picture of Glenn Beck tattooed on his butt.

So, when a tea party member gets beat up or killed, you'll be there to call for the censoring of MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS and CNN right? Oh wait, thats already happened and not a peep from you or the MSM that manipulated you to make this post.

I cant believe you folks are falling for this. Beck doesn't scare me, but you do.

Right, just like I think Olbermann Co are trying to make violence happen to "right wingers, by fear mongering every single night about how evil and racist critics of Obama are.

You guys do know Beck constantly talks about how violence wont solve anything and that we have to win in the area of ideas, right? Oh wait, you're not dealing with facts, just propaganda from far left websites.

Glenn Beck's Incendiary Angst Is Dangerously Close to Having a Body Count
www.huffingtonpost.com...

Just listen to Glenn Beck:
* Progressives "are sucking the blood out of the republic" and are "gonna start getting more and more violent."

* "To the day I die, I am going to be a progressive hunter."

* "[Y]ou will have to shoot me in the forehead before you take away my gun" and "before I acquiesce and be silent."

* "This game is for keeps"; "[Y]ou can shoot me in the head ... but there will be 10 others that line up."

* "There is a coup going on. There is a stealing of America"; "God help us in an emergency."'

And don't forget about the unhinged response when health care reform was passed in March: "Get down on your knees and pray. Pray. It's September 11th all over again, except that we didn't have the collapsing buildings." After financial reform passed last week, Beck told his audience, "Your republic is over."

Meanwhile, Andrew Breitbart's website recently tagged Obama as the "suicide-bomber-in-chief," while the conservative Washington Times just last week published an op-ed -- by a former congressman, no less -- asserting the president poses more of a threat to America than al Qaeda.

Note that the radical right's media rhetoric is no longer even political in a partisan sense. Instead, it's purely revolutionary. It isn't, "We think taxes should be lower" or "Obama should be more hawkish overseas." It's,
"There's an insidious and deadly plot afoot by Democrats and progressives to strip Americans of their freedom and this country of its greatness." Obama is now the incarnation of evil (the Antichrist?), and his driving hatred for America, as well as for democracy, runs so deep that he ran for president in order to destroy the United States from inside the Oval Office.

It's impossible to argue that today's avalanche of insurrectionist rhetoric doesn't have a real world effect. Or that those on the fringes don't find comfort in seeing and hearing their worst fears legitimized on AM radio and Fox News.

The consequences of the doomsday programming seem entirely predictable. As Jeffrey Jones, a professor of media and politics at Old Dominion University, recently explained to the New York Times in regard to Beck's rhetoric, "People hear their values are under attack and they get worried. It becomes an opportunity for them to stand up and do something."

Indeed, the relentless message that right-wing audiences hear is unequivocal and inescapable: Do something! Take action!

And last week, Byron Williams, likely inspired by Glenn Beck's Tides obsession, grabbed his guns and set out to do just that.

Seriously, why do you insist on saying garbage things like these? Killing people isnt funny. The same consitution you claim to want uphold doesnt allow for this. A country divided falls...what exactly does your kind of rhetoric attempt to accomplish?

I refrain from being more blatant with my criticism. These two schools of right and left are being exaccerbated beyond control. Does nobody remember Machievelli? We are more likely being played against each other through the auspices of liberal and conservative camps

There is no doubt in my mind that we are being played. We have been being played for centuries. Glen Beck and the rest all have a role to play. Now the game is a game that has been around since the beginning of man. It is called Divide and Conquer, and that is all we are seeing. It really is that simple. Yet is still amazes me how well it works.

How are we being divided in the situation? Left vs Right, and it is so sad how many people fall for this tactic. In reality there is no Left vs Right, just Us vs Them. The real sides are people who love freedom vs those who want to control you. If you are still falling for the Left vs Right nonsense, your gonna lose, and you can not see the big picture.

How quickly people forget... we had a long period of the Right running the whole show too, and just like the Left now, they did not care about YOU. You the person, you the individual. It is a big club.... and YOU are not in it.

I ask myself this same question every time I see stories of this type. People are getting angry. If there is a second civil war, I expect it would start off small, with isolated incidents just like this, and escalate from there.

Thank you...breath of fresh air...everyday I read posts claiming a right, or left view point...and its so perplexing to me how such intelligent people have such a lack of control of thier own minds, needless to say their emotions.

Th real world war is taking place right now...you said it best..us against them. Whats ironic is through the machievellian plot, the masses dont even know whom to direct their anger.

Are you advocating and inciting violence? Maybe you better think twice, shut off FoxNews, and step away from the TV.

What, are the scary liberals going to beat you to death with their Food Stamp cards?

Argue the FACTS. Or dispute the ones presented. Otherwise shut up about MSNBC and the rest. The OP shows they did not cover Tides.

Soros is SMART to keep and eye on FoxNews. This alone shows reason enough. Deal with it.

FoxNews is more likely to bring an end to your beloved Tea Party than keep it alive.

NO ONE on the stations you mention is encouraging, advocating, or inciting violence in the way it can be argued FoxNews is. In fact, they are trying to point it out to PREVENT it. That you appear to view this as inciting violence and FoxNews as not is the scary thing.

reply to post by starwarsisreal

Not going to happen. The people as a whole are too smart for this. Any who are dumb enough to take the bait will be dead and locked up in no time. They are first in the minority and second can't even agree among themselves on who or what they're "fighting." Sorry but this is pretty obvious.

So, reporting on violence on the left and calls for violence from the left, is in fact inciting violence? Sort of like reporting on non-white racism is racist?

Why is it that all your articles from from left wing political sites? Why aren't you concerned with the nightly drum beat of "RACISM" from the MSM? You aren't worried about the violence thats been incited from that, or do you just don't care, because it fits your political beliefs?

New Black Panther Party Leader Video: ‘We Will See Caskets and Funerals in the Community of our Enemy’

With recent controversial race topics entering the spotlight, such as the voter intimidation incident and Shirley Sherrod story, the media has been more than willing to open their arms and turn on their cameras to hear the opining of the National Chairman of the New Black Panther Party, Malik Zulu Shabazz. Shabazz has appeared on Fox News, issued a statement through CNN, and done exclusive interviews for various media outlets.

In fact, Shabazz used his statement at CNN to accuse the ‘Republican or right wing tea party strategists' of ‘stir(ing) up racial fears'.

Redeem the Dream, Shabazz speech transcript:

(Begin 3:10:15)

... You might be a doctor. You might be a lawyer. You might be a scientist. You might have evolved to the privileged class of society, but no matter how high you fly, no matter how high you think you have gone, you still the actual fact that we are still treated as 'n-word's in the hills of America. Racism stinks, rotten, from the core to the ceiling of America today.

Thirty seven years later, ladies and gentleman of the black jury. I ask you, ladies and gentleman of the black jury, thirty seven years later, how do you find white America on injustice and racism?

Crowd: Guilty!

Ladies and gentleman of the jury, on America's state and federal police, how do you find them on police brutality and racism, how do you find them?

Crowd: Guilty!

Thirty seven years later, black ladies and gentleman of the jury, how do you find white America and the outlaw governor George Bush of Texas, on the outright, cold-blooded murder on (inaudible) in Texas, how do you find them?

Crowd: Guilty!

How do you find them?

Crowd: Guilty!

How do you find her on the conspiracy to incarcerate black youth? How do you find her?

Crowd: Guilty!

How do you find her after 400 years, after serving to build a country, how do you find white America today on the denial of reparations today, how do you find her?

Crowd: Guilty!

How do you find her?

Crowd: Guilty!

We in the New Black Panther Party led by our national chairman Khallid Abdul Muhammed have a black dream today. We have a black dream which is truly a vision. We have a black dream today of little black boys, little black girls, joining hands with other black youth and black students to organize, stop the violence in our communities, and unite against a common enemy.

We have a black dream today, and a vision today, of all of our people, black lawyers, black preachers, doctors, teachers, scientists, rap artists, gang members - all black people working for a common cause.

Black power! Black power! Black power!

I would disagree on this assessment. The second amendment, at its core, exists to prevent abusive and corrupt government control that does not ensure the rights of man. It is self-defense of the citizenry.

Agreed. The question is now, by who and for what ultimate purpose?
