Time to get off our butts and write every single representative in your state that you do not want this even to be taken into consideration.
You will burn Rangel...
And anyone else who agrees with this...
You reap what you beware...
We are just sleeping for now but there are those who have yet to awaken and once they do...

Everyone seems to have gone on this tangent that they'd have to serve in the MILITARY. Haven't you ever heard of civil service? The Peace corps?

Nearly every veteran I've ever spoken to has agreed that some time spent in the military would do a lot of people a lot of good. Being a veteran myself, I agree with that idea.

However, it seems like a good argument that, for some individuals, it would go against the 13th amendment...but, logically, wouldn't the draft be against the 13th amendment?

There's some level of patriotic pride in serving your country, but...gasp...patriotism?! Perish the thought! ME and ME alone! Screw the country!

Call me an odd ball, but if I was asked to serve I would. That said I have tried to join the military, 7 times. I never made it past my physical

I serve as a volunteer with the CAP and the Alabama State Defense Force. There are many many jobs in the armed forces that do not require being in combat.
In the past the draft helped people who ended up making a career out of the military, something they may not have had a chance at before.
If the government wanted to put me to working doing a job I am capable of that would be great,as long as I got paid for my time.

I don't doubt that 2 years of service would do MANY of the people in this country some good.

But the true definition of being Free and having Liberty goes against ANY form of mandatory service. The choice to live one's own life as they so wish (provided they infringe upon no other) is Liberty. By imposing service on somebody, "for their own good(public good)" or no infringes upon the rights we have as free people.

Soon as the military points it's guns at the Capitol, I'll join up. Those crooks stopped working for us ages ago.

IF they want my public service, that's not a problem. I am after all - a Patriot... and nothing would please me more than to serve my Country in such a way as to truly be a benefit.

I'll only be interested, however - if I get either of these options:

1. Be the guy that puts the official thumbtacks on the Senate and / or House seats, or
2. The one responsible for refueling Air Force One.

And people must be forced to have a "good society" in your eyes?...

Perhaps you haven't made yourself acquainted with what the forefathers of this nation did, but what they did has nothing to do with FORCING people to do anything...

I also served in the U.S. Navy but you know what? What Obama, Emanuel Rahm and the other Obamatrons want is to have every American, whether you are retired or not do some FORCED Community Service because according to them "that's what it means to be an American"....

You really want to know what it means to be an American?... Read the documents the forefathers of the U.S. signed, and agreed on to be the foundation of this country, Obama, his cronies, and most politicians should do the same because obviously they haven't read, or grasped why this nation was funded....

BTW, please when you find it show me WHERE does it say that Americans must be FORCED for "the good of the nation"...

This sort of FORCED service is what you find in Socialist/Communist dictatorships...

A while back I posted a couple of threads about this.

In fact this bill is part of other bills which have already been passed as law, and this began with bill H.R. 1388, which has already been passed as law.

In H.R. 1388 Obama and his administration, as well as those who voted for this bill, gave power to something they call "the Corporation" over all education as well as voluntary and "required"/FORCED Community Service.

This is part of what this is all about.

Section 122 is amended to read as follows:

`(a) Required National Service Corps- The recipient of a grant under section 121(a) and each Federal agency operating or supporting a national service program under section 121(b) shall, directly or through grants or subgrants to other entities, carry out or support the following national service corps, as full- or part-time corps, including during the summer months, to address unmet educational, health, veteran, or environmental needs:

H.R. 1388, and a few others have been already passed as law by Obama and his "Progressives".

The Progressive Democrats want even children from secondary school to be part of this FORCED Community Service, and there are Progressives that also want children from primary school to be part of this FORCED Community Service.

`(a) Purpose- School-based service learning programs promote service-learning as a strategy to--
`(1) support high-quality service-learning projects that engage students in meeting community needs with demonstrable results, while enhancing students' academic and civic learning; and
`(2) support efforts to build institutional capacity, including the training of educators, and to strengthen the service infrastructure to expand service opportunities.

The above info and link were provided by member Clearskies on the following link.

BTW, I will search for it but I also found that people won't be paid for this FORCED Community Service.

Anyway, I have posted the following video in the past, it is about emanuel Rahm talking about forced military and community service.

Really? me?
Any quotes on this being a good idea?
I do not remember this.
Source plz?

You really need quotes? You do not remember the country under Bush? It is unpatriotic to question your president. It is unpatriotic to publicly criticize the CIC during wartime. It is patriotic to give up many many rights. The patriot act is...patriotic. Every able bodied citizen of this country should be contributing to the war effort just like they would have back when the country was still...patriotic. You do not remember any of that? Maybe you forgot after the mission was accomplished. I think I remember a banner.

The military is for pushing the fascists globalist agenda. The military is at the very least for killing.

I think many of you have the wrong idea about what the military is good for.

It is NOT for making good citizens or responsible people from lazy kids.

Get a grip on reality.

People serve because THEY WANT TO. No OTHER reason besides judges punishing criminals for being a burden on society and to instill some pride in themselves.

That said, people who dont want to be in the military, should have NO BUISNESS being in the military. They would be a threat not only to themselves, but others around them.

You can force someone to shoot a gun, but you cannot force them to protect those around you. THAT, is the scary part.

The military is not "Oh I throw on a Uniform, get target practice, and I am now ready to take on the world".

Its a COMPLETELY different lifestyle, COMPLETELY different world, COMPLETELY different sets of rules, and it takes A LOT of HARD WORK and Training. Those that fail to care, fail to succeed in that field.

Its absolutely MORONIC to throw people in there who dont want to be there, it only endangers lives. Would you want your son/daughter in a war type of situation with people who dont give a damn about what happens to them or anyone else? I sure as hell wouldnt.

NOT TO MENTION how unlawful all of this is.

I still think that this bill is going to get shot down before a vote is even considered. Its political suicide.

You mean the Socialist agenda no?... Having a centralized form of government is a SOCIALIST idea...

Doing FORCED Community Service "for the good of the nation, the good of the Earth, the good of everyone" is also a SOCIALIST idea...

Doing mandatory Military Service is also a SOCIALIST idea...

Not to mention that the rich elitists have been talking about implementing SOCIALIST ideas such as "rationing for the good of the Earth", "paying more taxes for the good of the Earth", depopulation schemes "for the good of the Earth", etc, etc, etc...

What the rich elites are implementing is a Socialist Global Agenda which they have been working on implementing for DECADES by slowly indoctrinating the western world into accepting "SOCIALIST ideas"....

We wouldn't want to collectively pull this corrupted system out of the muck now would we?

There is to much money to be made by the greedy isn't there?

I am not surprised the thread starters screen name immediately identifies himself as "1st" something or another rank in the military.

If you instead looked at it as "I" will be contributing a small fraction of my life to a "peace keeping force" (notice "I"don't use the word military) it wouldn't seem so bad now would it?

It "seems" as though you think your time would be better distributed among activities where "you" have something to gain. Is this "assumption" correct?

I've seen worse HR's presented to Congress, but the timing of this
one made me check the calender to see if it is April Fool's day.

This is a ridiculous bill, and Rangel needs to be held accountable and
voted out. He is a pompous, self-righteous sleaze.

2 years of community service at the WHIM of the president?
Are you kidding? Good riddance to you, i say.

Has anyone heard if the MSM is covering this at all?
I don't watch TV, but I would be very interested to know if this offering
of BS makes the news...Fox has GOT TO grab this and run.

This bill is SO OFFENSIVE I worry that it isn't a conspiracy to re-elect
a majority of Republicans...for God knows what agenda.

I think the Dems are trying to pass everything they can before they and the other incumbants get run out of office.

We need to vote them all out.

(of course that will never happen thanks to thos vote stealing electronic voting machines)

I wonder how many dead people voted for him. It strikes me as odd that there was a recount with this "election" just like the one before.

Boy, am I going to get flamed for this. When I was stationed in West Germany (at the time) I had several german friends. One explained to me that upon graduating from high school. Each young man had to make a choice. 1) Go to college. 2) Go to trade school and get in an apprentice program. 3) Spend two years in the military.
Personally, I thought it was a good idea. What's wrong with getting someone to take accountability for their future instead of being a burden on society.
Now, I don't agree witht the wars that we are in right now. But, I do agree with having a strong military. Again, if you enjoy living in freedom (such as it is) then what is wrong with contributing a little something to that freedom.
The way that our American society stands right now. No one wants to do anything that they don't have to do. Our young people just want to listen to music and play video games. Heaven forbid that they become a productive member of society. I am against big government, but something has to change if we are going to continue to be a viable society.

I've been reading your posts for awhile now and I don't think I have ever
been in disagreement with you, but here I am diametrically opposed.

This bill differs from most proposed draft legislation by including
a mandatory term of service to the state NOT as a member of
armed services, (which is needed in times of war, or to maintain
a formidable standing army for defense of the nation.) But on the whim
of the president a mandatory two years of service to the state.

This is forced labor. NOBODY has the right to tell a free man
he has to work!!

We are either free, or we are not, and this proposed legislation represents
the line in the sand where freedom ends...that is my argument why not.
