Fairly sure I've seen this same bill go through house before, maybe 2 years ago or so.

The call to service should be a CHOICE, and not forced. I have served this country as well, and if you truly have served you should know by now that the only reason why we have one of the world's best military is because IT IS A VOLUNTARY SERVICE....

EVERYONE who is in one, or another branch of our Armed Forces has joined on his, or her free will.

We don't need any new drafts, every American already has to register with the Selective Service when we turn 18 years old.

The military is not for everybody. I have seen even some sailors, and Marines who made the choice to join that later on they found it was not a life for them.

Being in the U.S. military SHOULD ALWAYS remain as a choice, and not being forced.

This country was founded on the idea that we are all FREE, free to choose the life we want to follow, and not being told what to do by the government.

Well put, it's sad when legitimate concerns need to create a spectacle over nothing to gain their deserved attention.

You have got to be kidding...

Obviously you did not even bother to read what the original poster posted, because he even gave a link to the bill...

111th CONGRESS

2d Session

H. R. 5741

To require all persons in the United States between the ages of 18 and 42 to perform national service, either as a member of the uniformed services or in civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, to authorize the induction of persons in the uniformed services during wartime to meet end-strength requirements of the uniformed services, and for other purposes.

(b) Limitation on Induction for Military Service- Persons described in section 102(a) may be inducted to perform military service only if--

(1) a declaration of war is in effect;

(2) the President declares a national emergency, which the President determines necessitates the induction of persons to perform military service, and immediately informs Congress of the reasons for the declaration and the need to induct persons for military service; or

(3) members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corps are engaged in a contingency operation pursuant to a congressional authorization for the use of military force.

1. The 'Global War on Terror' is in perpetual effect, not to mention the impending conflicts on the war table now.
2. There are multiple 'states of emergency' now and the 'Terrorist' SoE is reinstated every year since 9/11
3. Our military is spread thinly all over the globe, and it would eventually necessitate 'more troops' at any given time.

We've got so many irons in the fire right now, that it is not practical for a voluntary military to cover all the bases, so to speak. Question is, how many do we actually NEED to be involved in? Our global police force is economically destroying this country already. Even if the draft was instated and many jobless/homeless people are drafted or volunteered, they too would be shipped off to another country. What does that mean for the US? It means that we will be badly weakened and unable to properly defend ourselves if a majority of our citizens are stationed in other countries. It leaves us vulnerable to conflict in which will be more difficult to defend. So will it be schoolkids and elderly to 'hold the fort down' after such an operation be instated?

He's doing it because it generates concern over nothing, which is of course newsworthy, and causes the reporters to come listen to him talk about how military service has become the poor man's burden and needs to be redistributed fairly.

My friend, you should know by now that this is part of what the Obama administration wants. Even Obama himself has made it quite clear that this is part of the "change" he, and his goons want.

www.youtube.com...

Emanuel Rahm, who is Obama's chief of staff, has also talked about the forced national service.

www.disclose.tv...

This is not just Rangel wanting to attract attention, this is part of the "change" the entire Obama administration wants to implement.

They don't get it. They think it's some kind of Obama plot to enslave all the white people.

Guess what, Bush must have wanted to do the same thing since Rangel has submitted this bill several times over before.

That's cute if you "really" believe that ElectricUniverse.

But what you might just find is that the majority of the enlisted men and women "born" into poverty because the "choices" their fathers made(ie. contracting out "their" land to be "developed"through no work of "their own" so they could "see" a quick profit)

Now their children don't "like" the environment that "their father's" choices have brought them.

So some "people" sign another "contract" to get them out of "their" situation/environment.

Maybe I'm just crazy though....who knows?

Technically, I do believe war wasn't declared on the "War on Terror". It's called a War for marketing purposes. Really what happened is under the "War Powers" argument, Congress allotted the President additional troops to "deploy".

The troops are currently "deployed" on "patrol" and "should" a hostile engage them, then they "may" return fire. Thus a conflict is created, legally within the law without declaring war.

Our troops are simply on deployment, intentionally placed on patrol in hostile areas as to create a conflict furthering the illusion that this is in fact a "War". So that Congress will then approve the deployment of more troops without being engaged in a lawful "War".

So it would not apply under that condition even if passed currently. Unless we actually declared formal War upon a sovereign country.

This new "preemptive" strategy allows us to interfere with the borders of a country without actually entering into War. Thus antagonizing the enemy into declaring war.

Most likely so we can wipe them out and say, "They attacked us first. Honestly, we're the good guys."

It's Rahm Emanuel...not Emanuel Rahm.

I can't believe ATS members fall for this crazy stuff. It's CRAZY to think all these politicians would allow their sons and daughters to get drafted.

IT'S CRAZY!!

Here is what saddens me. These people are believing outsiders to the USA, instead of insiders.

It's obvious the Obama haters are not from this country. They come on here to stir up the hate. You guys are falling for it. Conquer and divide is a tried and true method in winning wars.

Some of you posters are basically TRAITORS. You are sympathizing with the enemy.

One person got Rahm's name wrong. What kind of patriot gets the leadership wrong? You guys are sympathizing with the enemy.

I'm from this Country...
Obama is the traitor.

We should have countless charges of corruption on a daily basis under his word. We can all see it, every day, in everything they say.

Instead they all play the political games instead of being upfront. That's treason.

How is Obama a traitor? The only traitor I know of is sitting in jail for downloading secrets and giving them to wikileaks.

i actually feel that this discussion has transcended the triflings or an irrelevant politician and would like to continue.

the call to arms in the time of great need has never been a choice in america...history is not kind to the truth. but i am not talking about armed service and neither is the proposal that rahm said he was going to put through as soon as obama was elected and i am pretty sure there are several posts detailing this around here somewhere. i am talking about public service. most people i see, and you would know this if you truly served, wouldn't know what a hard days work and giving a part of yourself to something greater would look like if it called them bad names on ats...get it?

my only point being that this site seeks to dispel ignorance yet i see hatred and violence against your fellow man spewed from all sides daily. so many of you speak of peace on here but the daily rhetoric says otherwise.

we are not going anywhere without each other. however you choose to look at it, this is who we are stuck with for the duration and we can either choose to do something great or we can continue as we have and be forgotten to time.

You guys remember a couple of weeks ago we got rid of Russian spies living right here among us?

Same thing with the net. They come on here and distort the facts and you sheeple follow.

LOL!!!

I'd rather be a socialist than a traitor.

Thick skin is part of the terms of service I think.

You didn't take a stand my man. All you did was empower the terrorist that come on here from other countries.

Bottom line, if you don't trust the democratic process then you are a traitor to this country.
