Well if anything does happen it will soon. We just had a full moon and there is allot more stress on the faults at this time. Tomorrow something could go boom. Hope not but this is a bad sign that something is plugged up and ready to give.

I sent them (USGS) a mail asking if it was out of the ordinary, here's the response I got back

"Yellowstone appears to be quiet at the moment, there are times when there is not much activity."

So it appears there's nothing to fear

yeah if i was a terroist with a nuke id put it in yellow stone just knowing in 2 hours every plane in the states is going to fall out of the sky from pumas stone and pissing that super volcano enough to end civilization and start total anarchy sounds fun to me. yellow stone is gonna make Krakatoa look like a fart remember if the ethnics aren't working for you there working against you. they have been surviving in crap conditions and no money there whole lifes get guns lots of ammo and extra clips

I posted a thread over here www.abovetopsecret.com...

Web Bot is leaning toward a major devastating earthquake on the "west coast" probably in the U.S. causing severe long-term problems.

I hate to say it but things are pointing that way...hope not.

Could a nuke actually cause an eruption ?

I know it could probably cause an effect on a fault line but Yellowstone is on top of a giant magma chamber which is a different beast

I am now a proponent of moving DC to yellowstone. I would take great comfort in knowing they were on top of this potential eruption from the very beginning.

There was a 1.3 yesterday, at 16:15 UTC. (The one I was talking about earlier in the thread that would probably be added to the map later. It's there now.)

earthquake.usgs.gov...

Nothing weird going on, the sky is not falling.

What is the problem?

Since the start of Feb this year there have been 2 periods of 8 days with no quakes above 1.0 and 3 periods of 6 days.

It happens and has no significance.

The webbot is an idiot, mainly because it picks up all the trash spouted by idiots on the web. It is not actually the fault of the webbot poor thing, it just gets duff information!

It's extremely difficult to measure if a volcano is going to blow or not. Honestly, I understand the concern about Yellowstone, but the problem we seem to have at ATS is that no matter what Yellowstone does--too many earthquakes, too few, just the right amount--can be streched to imply a pending eruption. I certainly think it's possible, but I highly doubt we will be able to detect it before it happens.

For example, earlier in the decade, many thought Yellowstone was on the verge of blowing due to magma filling at record rates:
02-04 Yellowstone Measurements

But it didn't happen. Things like this, at least while we are not so technologically advanced, will not be able to be forecast with any reliability, but I'm happy that a community like ATS is following the volcano so closely--I personally don't plan on vacationing there until after 2012 (if we're still around then).

why is this thread still going?

YS is NOT about to erupt in our life time .

as i said before shes gone 3 weeks and more without any quakes at all .

to me its a sign of her mellowing out .

I'm sure your Volcanism PHD paid off but lets hope not for all our sakes but then I'm sure that America said "terrorists would never be able to strike in the US" would they in the past as well?

Pray it doesnt go off in our lifetime is all we can do, but it will go eventually

I've been guilty of boneheaded posts like yours. I guess it is natural to want to test your manhood against other men, the elements, etc. I have a strong feeling that when confronted with "in your face" violence, you would wimper and pray for help. I bet if me and some boys showed up, beat you down and made you watch as we did your girlfriend, your craving for violence would quickly evaporate! I bet if the volcano blew, and the country turned upside down, some people that are a little more experienced in the world of violence and survival would quickly take everything you cherish, and possibly even your life. If they left you alive, it would only be to snicker as they strode away with your entire world!

Do not wish for the death of innocent people, and do not pray to be tested, because you just might get your wish! San Diego is decent town, only a few rough spots. You have probably never been on either end of "real" violence. The kind that you cannot defend against or forget that you did. The kind that hurts you on a cellular level and you cannot ever forget or get past. IT doesn't really matter if you are the victim or the aggressor. Sick, perverted violence will change you, disrupt your soul at the deepest level.

Posts like yours are all too common on ATS, and it makes me want to fall back to a less evolved place from my youth. It makes me very angry, and it makes me want to respond in kind and offer to fulfill your wish. I won't do that. Instead, I will pray that you mature, and you realize what is important in your life, and you cherish that. It could be taken away in an instant, and all your machoism could not do a thing about it!

Could,nt agree more with you. I was a handful.well one to one sometimes two in my day as a youth ,but i come from a small town,,later in life i ran in to some real depraved people in a small suburb of a city,i aint been the same since.. i was handcuffed with hands behind my back and beaten within a inch of my life i blubbered like a 2 year old cryed for mummy and i had a rep.what can you do against people with no rules specially if they were uniforms,, there are real unsavory despots out and about

Mods, this is an profane and uncalled for personal attack. In all fairness and in the interest of decency, it should be deleted and the author should be sanctioned.

You've got to be kidding.

A guy gets criticized for wanting to see mass destruction and violence. The horror. Yeah, let's just let that one fly even though its sadistic.

No, I'm not kidding. He wasn't criticised...Buddy boy there made a covert threat of a sexual nature (e.g., gang rape) against two specific and potentially readily identifiable individuals. In my state, this is a terroristic threat carrying special circumstances (hate crime status).

You n00bies need to watch what you say and how you say it.

all he was saying was a scenario .if the shtf.watch the film the road .he said be carefull what you wish for .the law is being taken to literal and it stems from americans suing each other for stupid things against there neighbours for there god the dollar, like a 3 year old kid scratches a neighbours car and the neighbour sues rather than talk to kids family, even thow it was an accident he just lost ctrl of his bike.stuff like this over 30years of lawyers as brought us were we are today" the end of days its a man of law gone to far with law america you started it you your fancy lawyers and hollywood" lawyers running the whole shop every firms lawyer is the firms god period. neighbours should work stuff out "love ya neighbour" i read what the poster said and it is totally a scenario he imagined how do you get to its illegal and a threat ,prove its a fact that he intends to do it.and i dont think hes a noob but i aint checked .ats is doomed. i aint spell checking or editing ff in sick of pc/threats about what people say .america is full of old women fish wives who are grasses

Take it easy friend. Alysha has a fair bit of experience with volcano threads on ATS and in my opinion is reasonably knowledgeable on the subject - more so than the average person who only frequents those threads infrequently. Whilst that may not amount to a PHD let me put something to you to consider.

You go to school and learn Geography. You get an interest in rocks and decide to read Geology at University. These days, unlike years ago, that means you have to do quite a bit of other work as well in unconnected subjects as there are no really specialist courses now as far as I can see.

You get your BSc in Geology and you go on to an MSc. To do that you have to write a thesis. In order to write that thesis you have to read many thesis by other people and most of this work for your MSc is actually done outside the confines of the University. A very large amount of the time spent preparing for this is done on the Internet. Is a pattern appearing here? Do you see where I am driving?

You get your MSc and want to do a Doctorate. NOW you are specialising and will need to get attached to a University as a doctoral student. Once again you are reading thesis material posted on the Internet by other people. Of course there is practical work as well. but a lot is just reading and writing your thesis.

Obviously if you have an interest in a subject, but are not at Uni, you will be looking up everything you can find on the net. The chances are that you will come across a great deal of material that you would also come across if you actually were doing a degree.

PHD? No maybe not. Knowledgeable? Yes probably.

As another example there are some people on ATS who study the Middle East IN DEPTH and it is my honest opinion that many of these are just as knowledgeable as the people who earn their living doing that.

one way would be tell what is going on is to do a deep sound sonagraph, i remember this was one a nova show, who the professor was i can not remember, but he compared the tone to a deep pitch, as on a organ, when you here this tone it is just about the time of the eruption, other sings to look for increase of gas release, rising ground temps, and earth quakes.

Basically what you are talking about is harmonic tremor, and yes you are correct it is very very unlikely that you would have a volcanic eruption without harmonic tremor.

Note the work 'harmonic'. You can actually turn the signal from these tremors into a waveform and listen to it and it will sound like a tone. It probably wont be steady.

You can download files with Vase and turn them into sound files. It can be fascinating. If I hear an harmonic tremor at Yellowstone I will post a sound file on ATS

Not sure that you would have time to listen to it!!!!!!!

Edit to say: Just found a site with a really good harmonic tremor sound file on it.

I'm surprised there is no chatter about it on the Yellowstone thread?

That might just indicate that nothing is going on out of the ordinary?

Hi zcflint05,
Just wanted to say that my daughter and I just came back from YS. If you have never been, you really need to go. It is a wonderous and beautiful place. We took photos of the geysers. When we viewed Norris Geyser, I had to ask the park ranger how far down the magma chamber was and he told me anywhere from 3 to 8 miles. (don't know if that is true or not but it made my eyebrows raise).
Anyway, if you get a chance to go, do it. It sure is worth it.

Have a good one
