she does have quite a memory..

and to those of you doubting the validity of the story, i can attest that she was in fact at the vascular specialist on that day, and she was there because her friend was recently in a motorcycle accident.

i could go on with more details as to how i know she isn't making this up, but it seems to me that it would be counter-productive to do so. seeing as how, to some of you, more details means it was made up.

He's thrown money in all the wrong places, soon he'll have to layoff the rest of the census workers which is a few hundred thousand workers, he will be forced to devalue the dollar sometime soon as this can no longer be avoided, inflation will rocket out of sight but wages won't, we have pretty much open borders now and we're supporting these illegals, so how have things gotten better? Study the Progression since he's been in Office with control of Congress and it's blatantly evident everything has gone backwards.

to my recollection the economic crisis was just beginning in the last few months of Bush's presidency. So you have an economy that was still faltering. I'm not laying the blame for the economy on Bush, I'm sure you could trace America setting itself up for an economic fall back to Ronnie Ron (or further, I don't mean to choose a republican president, however they're usually the ones that like trickle-down economics - which demonstrably don't work). So you have an economic situation that would continue to worsen regardless of who won the election.
Also, as for change, Obama ABSOLUTELY has failed to even begin to address several of the sweeping changes he promised (don't ask don't tell in the military, the closing of Gitmo). But look at how the republican party has been filibustering and stonewalling any attempt he HAS made to bring about change. While it's easy to say 'sure, they're just doing what they feel is right and what they were elected to do' I feel that their motivation is - as I mentioned before- to be able to stand up in 2012 and shout 'Where's the CHANGE he promised you?' and rightfully expect the people to forget that they were the ones preventing and tying up change every step of the way.
It's no surprise that so many American people (specifically those who voted for Obama and have now lost faith in him) are upset and displeased with the president. Times aren't good in the states or anywhere else right now. His oration on the election trail could easily lead one to believe that he was going to make all Americans retired millionaire celebrities.
People have every right to be angry at Obama (I do believe for a segment of the population it's simply a 'now it's our turn' response for how some people viewed Bush and his administration). But people need to also pull their heads out of their asses and realize the problem has very little to do with which political party is in charge. They also need to stop being lazy and ignorant (in the uninformed use of the word) regarding the world around them and actually find out WHAT is going on and WHO is benefiting. And stop taking Fox/MSNBC news as anything other than opinion and political based entertainment. I mean, hell, The Daily Show is a more unbiased forum for political information and discourse and Jon Stewart has continually made clear that his program should be considered nothing other than entertainment. Which is the opposite of Fox News, who continually tell people 'we're the ONLY ones you can trust for news.... and now a word from our sponsor'

The Ugly Truth About Canadian Health Care
David Gratzer

Socialized medicine has meant rationed care and lack of innovation. Small wonder Canadians are looking to the market.

Mountain-bike enthusiast Suzanne Aucoin had to fight more than her Stage IV colon cancer. Her doctor suggested Erbitux—a proven cancer drug that targets cancer cells exclusively, unlike conventional chemotherapies that more crudely kill all fast-growing cells in the body—and Aucoin went to a clinic to begin treatment. But if Erbitux offered hope, Aucoin’s insurance didn’t: she received one inscrutable form letter after another, rejecting her claim for reimbursement. Yet another example of the callous hand of managed care, depriving someone of needed medical help, right? Guess again. Erbitux is standard treatment, covered by insurance companies—in the United States. Aucoin lives in Ontario, Canada.

When Aucoin appealed to an official ombudsman, the Ontario government claimed that her treatment was unproven and that she had gone to an unaccredited clinic. But the FDA in the U.S. had approved Erbitux, and her clinic was a cancer center affiliated with a prominent Catholic hospital in Buffalo. This January, the ombudsman ruled in Aucoin’s favor, awarding her the cost of treatment. She represents a dramatic new trend in Canadian health-care advocacy: finding the treatment you need in another country, and then fighting Canadian bureaucrats (and often suing) to get them to pick up the tab.

The above was written by a Canadian, and doing interviews to Canadians, so sorry to say your case is an exception and not the rule.

Ontario says healthcare could eat up 70 percent of its budget in 12 years, if all these costs are left unchecked. “Why are we paying more or the same for cataract surgery when it costs substantially less today than it did 10 years ago? There’s going to be a finer look at what we’re paying for and, more importantly, what we’re getting for it,” Brian Golden, Business Professor said.”
It is a fact that many people in Canada have died because of their poorly run state healthcare system. Some of them mind you, have been able to receive the care they needed by going to the US. We should be asking ourselves why this is the case.

Barbara Wagner from Oregon was denied a life-saving drug by their state-run healthcare system but was offered a drug for assisted suicide. In 2006, Rose Lundy of Calgary miscarried in a crowded ER room as they didn’t have the room or the staff to help her. In 2002, unidentified woman dies in waiting room in a Victoria hospital. Extremely important links: first, second, and third.

For decades, Canadians have cast pitying glances at us poor American neighbors who actually have to pay for our medical care while they get theirs for "free."

Yet the major candidates in Canada's recent national election both agreed the country's health care system is failing. They made the usual socialist diagnosis of "not enough money." None of the candidates mentioned government control as what ails the Canadian system.

On this side of the border, Senator Edward Kennedy (D-Massachusetts), with presidential candidate Senator John Kerry, also from Massachusetts, in tow, promotes Canadian health care to U.S. voters, in the hope we too can have "free" medical care.

High Costs, Low Quality

A July 2004 study by the Vancouver-based Fraser Institute, Paying, More, Getting Less, concluded that after years of government control, the Canadian medical system is badly injured and bleeding citizens' hard-earned tax dollars. The institute compared health care systems in the industrialized countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and found Canada currently spends the most, yet ranks among the lowest on such indicators as access to physicians, quality of medical equipment, and key health outcomes.

One of the major reasons for this discrepancy is that, unlike the countries in the study that outperformed Canada--Sweden, Japan, Australia, and France, for example--Canada outlaws most private health care.

If the Canadian government says it provides a particular medical service, it is illegal for a Canadian citizen to pay for and obtain that service privately. At the same time, the Canadian government bureaucracy rations medical services. According to another Fraser Institute survey, Waiting Your Turn: Hospital Waiting Lists in Canada (13th edition, October 2003), a Canadian health care patient, on average, must wait 17.7 weeks for hospital treatment. Those who live in Saskatchewan waited an average of 30 weeks, those in Ontario a relatively expeditious 14 weeks.

Dying in Queues

In 1999, Dr. Richard F. Davies, a cardiologist at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and professor of medicine at the University of Ottawa, described in remarks for the Canadian Institute for Health Information how delays affected Ontario heart patients scheduled for coronary artery bypass graft surgery. In a single year, for this one operation, the doctor said, "71 Ontario patients died before surgery, 121 were removed from the list permanently because they had become medically unfit for surgery," and 44 left the province to have the surgery, many having gone to the United States for the operation. (According to the Canadian Institute for Health Information, 33 Canadian hospitals performed approximately 22,500 bypass surgeries in 1998-99.)

In other words, 192 people either died or became too sick to have surgery before they could work their way to the front of the line.

BTW, if anyone in the U.S. want to see how Socialised Medicine would work in the U.S. just visit your nearest Veteran's Hospital.

I am a veteran and went once to my nearest vet hospital, in Miami Florida mind you, and NEVER AGAIN did I go there...

The "CHANGE" Obama and his thugs are bringing is SOCIALISM, or worse, so thank you but no thanks, we should stonewall EVEYRTHING he will try because EVERYTHING he has implemented is ANTI-AMERICAN, and it's not even allowed by the U.S. Constitution, but it hasn't stopped Obama and his thugs from doing it...

So, you want to complain for the stone-walling? I say NOT ENOUGH STONEWALLING HAS BEEN DONE...

Perhaps you forget that the economic crisis has been global in nature, and there are several countries in worse straits than the U.S., until the Obama administration took office and they decided to spend even more money, and lose more money into a "black hole that noone knows where the money went to"...

The economic crisis was manufactured to implement the One World Government the elites have wanted to implement for decades. Heck, we even had Rham Satanemanuel, and Shillary Clinton say that "no crisis should go to waste because we can do things which would have never been possible before"...

Those things they are implemented would not have been possible before simply because they are unConstitutional.

When people are without jobs, and they have no other choice most people would allow anything to be done just to put some food on their tables, and that is the game these people are playing.

That's because NONE of those people who voted for him, and neither you have EVER read the Constitution of these United States...

If you had it would have been clear by now...

U.S. Constitution - Article 4 Section 4

Article 4 - The States
Section 4 - Republican Government

The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.

I wonder what the forefathers meant by the United States shall GUARANTEE to every state a REPUBLICAN form of government..... hummm....

I did indeed vote for Obama and I am proud of that fact. I have to correct you on your assumption that I have not read the U.S. Constitution because indeed, I have.

Anyone with a 6th grade education can read almost any document put before them but the real question is; Do they comprehend what they read? Even you have demonstrated your ability to read by responding to posts here on ATS. Unfortunately, you have also demonstrated your inability to comprehend what you read.

The definition of the word "republic" or "republican form of government," as provided on the very web site,, mentioned in your post is as follows; "Republic n 1: a government having a chief of state who is not a monarch and is usually a president; also: a nation or other political unit having such a government 2: a government in which supreme power is held by the citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by elected officers and representatives governing according to law; also: a nation or other political unit having such a form of government

You might also note that the republican party was not even founded until 1854 while the U.S. Constitution was adopted on Sept. 17, 1787. Explain to me just how it is that the constitution is guaranteeing me a government run by a political party that won't be formed for another 67 years.

I hope that it is now apparent, even to yourself, that you have misrepresented the term "republican for of government" as stated in article 4 of the constitution.

I guess it boils down to; "how do define the term reading?"

Complimenting someone on pinpoint memory is now doubting their story? That's an odd conclusion.
I've no doubt that this individual sat in a waiting room with her friend.
Why would I cast aspersions on such a mundane activity?

I don't believe those people would actually do anything. I think they were venting their anger and frustration. Possibly over a president who may not even have been born in our country and is mocking our Constitution. It has nothing to do with skin color as he is mixed anyway and is not really any one thing all the way. It would be the same if it were a person born in England - they would not be allowed to serve as our president either.

I'm sorry to say that the cases you try to use as support that 'socialized medicare doesn't work' in canada are the exception. My ex's mother had a condition in her hands that caused the tendons to shorten, basically leaving her with claws (i believe the condition is a result of diabetes, but i'm not sure and i forget the name of the condition). She had surgery (completely covered by healthcare) to correct this, and allow her to regain use of her hands. This wasn't surgery needed to save her life, just restore quality of life. I could also mention her brother who has moderate-sever cerebral palsy. His assisted living housing and all his medical costs are covered. Or her father who unfortunately passed due to aggressive and terminal brain cancer, but received the best palliative care available until he passed. (again, covered by OHIP). I could site my friend on the west coast who has had multiple surgeries on her knee, including fairly cutting edge cartilage replacement, again, covered by our healthcare.
Or a college professor in his 40's who had throat cancer, and again, received the best treatment available, and treatment that was covered by our healthcare system.
There is a movement in this country for more privatized healthcare, however that movement is being spearheaded by the Conservatives and amounts to mostly fear tactics and smear campaigns.
So I guess I just have a horseshoe up my arse, somehow meeting and personally knowing the only people in my country to receive effective and timely healthcare.

you seem to not be able to understand that socialism does not equal dictatorship.
America, through almost its entire history has been nothing other than a capitalist oligarchy. If you're old enough to remember it being a democratic republic, then I'd genuinely like to know your secret for living longer than 200 years.

I'm well aware that the economic meltdown is global, how could one not be? however, it was the meltdown of AMERICA'S economy that was the lynchpin that brought everything down.

Sure sucks to be the lynchpin for the global economy. Sucks ever more when you're fighting for hegemony and have nothing left to fight with. TPTB are already living in another world than we inhabit, but to them this still matters a bit. They have more money to squeeze out of us. And a bit more slavery until they reach the point where they can disconnect.

At least we still have organic and healthy food and heirloom seeds... wait.. agribusiness says 'no'.
At least we still have people creating art that inspires people and makes them think...shoot, I've just been told that TPTB are phasing that out. So that's a strike.
At least if the world gets you down you can have a banana split or fresh banana bread... crap, it seems that the banana palm is going extinct.
And... it looks like there's just been a government mandated recall of all snips and snails and puppy-dog tails.

Well, they still haven't managed to take family and friendships from us. Or masturbation. not that the three should be involved with each other.
I mean, they're *trying* to take those things, no doubt. But we have to draw a line somewhere.

I live in 29 Palms by a major military base. I hear it from a lot of ex and current military around here, especially with old people. I have heard these same comments. "I wish he was dead" "Someone should shoot him, He's ruining America".

Most of these people, including military are under educated and misinformed. They only know that their red neck parents raised them saying N#$%" this and that, so of coarse they can not accept a president of another color, it is how they were ignorantly raised and know nothing but false truths portraied by media such as Obama is not even a US citizen.

I think all of our presidents go into office, thinking that they can make a difference. When they find out the truth, and lies behind the scenes. Every president now has his own "war" because of high up military generals being puppeted by the strings of big business. Why are we in the middle east? Because of 911? We are PISSING OFF THE BEE HIVE...and they are KILLER BEES! Get it! Attack one and the whole hive tries to kill. If they were on our soil every American would be killing the arabs! But that wont happen, so we can still be rational, we are breeding American hate Mongers as we speak. We made a freaking terrorist factory over there,....we are now funding it (we know this now thanks to wikileaks) and more American soldiers have now died in Afganistan than all of victims (god rest their souls) in the towers. Sorry to get so off the subject....
point being, how the F is all this mess that has been brewing since after Reagan left office, Obamas fault? Is he our ultimate policy maker? No big business is, NWO is, Oil Industry is...Our president, although I am extremely underwhelmed by what he has accomplished can not be held soley accountable. Did he sign for home loans to people w stated income that couldnt read a contract? Did he send troops to Iraq to "find and destroy weapons of mass destruction" (the biggest lie imo that has ever been told by a president), did he allow torture procedures that are against our own war treaties? Did he exclude people who didnt have same beliefs as him using Jesus Christ name for political strategy and religious exclusion? Did he have a brother in a closely undecided state, that miraculously had enough electoral votes to sqeeze in there even though he wasnt elected by the popular majority.

There is so many things I could say that are so dispicalbe about our past administrations, but one thing I wouldnt say is that they should die. This is our president. EVERYONES A MEMBER OF THE F!@#$ NRA , COME ONE UNCLE SAM CAN WE KILL SOMEONE TODAY!

The Wall Street banks are sitting on trillions of dollars in capital that they won't lend to small business unless and until the Congress and Obama take the pressure off them for tanking the entire monetary system with their Vegas-stye gambling addiction. Mort Zuckerman so much as admitted it on CNBC this week.

Now the Congress is trying to end-run the Wall Street banksters by making 30 billion in federal loans available to community banks so that they'll be able to lend to those same small businesses, and the GOP (Wall Street's Congressional henchmen) is filibustering that spending bill to keep the government from giving small business a chance to grow and for jobs to be created.

In 2012, the GOP will scream "Where is the recovery?!!" and the average idiot will have already forgotten that it was the Senate GOP who prevented money getting to the small business community so that a recovery could happen.

Just like the goons who race-bait and then yell "I thought Obama was going to end racism in this country!!" Disgusting. Even someone like me, who is into philosophy and not politics, can see how repugnant the GOP has been on behalf of the Wall Street moneyed elite in this country. Sadly, most Americans aren't very bright, and they are easily taken in by this kind of crap.

Exactly, NorEaster, exactly. As I've said: A president gets elected on a platform of Change , the opposition gets their panties in a bunch because they no longer have capital-P power after enjoying 8 years of running amok... so they make sure that Obama can't follow through with any of the change he based his campaign on. Then in 2012 "Where was all this change Obama promised? he LIED to you! he tried to DESTROY this great country!" And the people will completely forget that it was the republicans that prevented him from fulfilling the mandate the people gave him. But, don't worry, the republicans have Palin lined up to steer your country back on course (and she is definitely being prepared for campaigning - or should i say, the people are being prepared), and, "awww shucks, ain't she just like you?"
I remember watching the news before the 08 election and they interviewed an old lady that looked like anyones sweet old grandma. what did she say? "I've been voting democrat my whole life. But not this time, because our country doesn't need one of THEIR kind as president"...
Now, this could have been fabricated/staged. But unfortunately a lot of elderly people grew up in a world that was much more racist, and still hold onto those views.

There's also the fact that there are a lot of people that are... I don't know what phrase to use, so I'll go with 'middle class racist'. People who have no problem having close and true friends of any race, but around a strictly white group would say 'but, they're one of the GOOD ones" and believe that.

Guess Freenrgy2 didn't have enough energy to read the 2 preceding posts to his by [astrogolf] & [stewie] who made quite clear points. Guess they need clear enumerating:

1) Serious 'elderly' people (I'm seriously one here at 57) are aware the mainstream/broadcast media have had all their reporters neutered, FOX being NO exception. CNN's Lou Dobb's is perhaps the last broadcast journalist with any balls.
2) Many of us became jaded to the TV/mainstream news long ago. 'Youthful' (read - ignorant) members seem to think the 'elderly' slurp pablum while zoned out on broadcast TV. (jezus - the youthful exchanged books & newspapers for music, videos & TV, lulling their intelligences to sleep.)
3) We know the media is owned lock, stock & barrel by the big conglomerates that have paid to put presidents into their positions since after JFK. (Oh, you still think you 'elected' Obama? Heh-heh... youthful ignorance.)
4) We know journalists conspired to deceive the public to increase support for Obama. (And you thought he was swept in by a 'popularity wave.' Heh-heh.. youthful ignorance.)
5) We know our 'progressive' president is accused of being a Marxist only because he acts like one - unconstitutionally installing Marxist-thinking czars over each cabinet member.
6) We know he was born/raised 'Barry Sotero' by socialist/Marxist parents until he morphed into B.H. Obama at 18 with a new birth certificate; was educated thusly by them; by his own description a Marxist. (And you still think America is a democracy? Heh-heh...)
7) We know he is trading our last freedoms for 'free government cheese' that comes with severe government strings attached, that will soon turn into chains.
8) We've known his continuing (and past presidents') NWO plans/cooperation since before most of you were born.
9) We've watched our nation's figurehead spit on U.S. sovereignty on world media when he's bowed/submitted deeply before foreign, particularly communist and Muslim, heads of state or has Hillary kissing the Pope's ring, things no other president has yet done.
10) We've see his absolute lack of fiscal responsibility, just as Bush Jr & Sr before, only worse with the trillion dollar Wall Street bail out of traitorous bankers & select businesses with incestuous government/self-interests.
11) We finally realize we'll never get our social security taxes as 'retirement' benefits, except for a few cents value for each dollar put in, and can't use for retirement until after 75 or just as likely die before getting much back.
12) We see he has no plan to retire our bazillion-trillion dollar national debt, which you youthful don't understand keeps us bankrupt and under the thumbs of the illegal Federal Reserve bankers cabal, except on our backs through inflation or depression. (And you think the dollar can NEVER collapse. Heh-heh... youthful ignorance.)

The list could *easily* go on of the un-American things he's done / continues to do, while also relaxing at his weekly golf games... just please don't be so g/d pathetic and lay this clear dislike to 'elderly racism' or other youthful fantasies about 'the elderly'. Half of you clearly have no idea; however, you will, when you grow up and either learn or perceive some elderly wisdom. But then, some people just never grow up.

Even large groups of supra-national, conglomerate CEOs & lawyers have dished out large sums to our native American elders to teach them what they, the businessmen, have admitted they *do-not-know* -- and that's how to properly run a business, a state, a nation and a planet. And where did Barry Sotero grow up? (Check the facts if you're not youthfully ignorant.) Who even knows if he's a US citizen.

As for the rest of your rant, it is nonsense.
