Please reassure me and tell me this was just some old people venting off steam. That this isn't representative of a good chunk of our population here in America. And that it won't happen. Also, should things like this be reported? What would even happen if they were.

Sorry to tell you this, but there is a very-very large percentage of Americans who feel this way. 50-60% of the population now think he is a domestic terrorist. Why? Because his policies are contradictory to the American way of life, and his ultimate goal is to destroy the core foundation of this country.

After some of the stuff that just hit the media, today only, I am willing to bet that the number of US Citizens who want to put him into a little boat and ship him out has just jumped.

Care to back that up with facts? Thats a pretty big claim to make that 50-60% of the American public think Obama is a Domestic terrorist.

After reading through some of these posts, I could not help but notice the topic of age and ideology. I am not sure if some people realize this, but there is an actual Generational argument to be made.

Generation 'X' (1961 to 1981) is a massive group of individuals who, including myself, believe in the importance of preserving 'individuality'. If something threatens that sense of individuality, Gen 'X' will react swiftly to resolve such issues. We have a very light government perspective, which comes from deep seeded distrust that started in the 1960s. (Reagen Generation)

Generation 'Y' (1982 to Now) is a massive group of individuals who, including many of my fellow college friends, believe in a false sense of social unity. If anyone interferes with their social goals, they will force the majority through implementing laws to obtain their false entitlements. Most of these people 'currently' think big government is a good thing. (Obama Generation)

Remember, not everyone in each generation believes in a certain manner. It just so happens that the majority in each group does.

But death? Assassination?

Maybe I should have level set further by saying this happened in the Atlanta metro area. Has anyone in other areas of the country had an experience like this? Heard sentiments like this expressed?

I mean I'm angry and frustrated, but there are other ways to accomplish what needs to be accomplished? Are we becoming a nation of extremists? Or is this just a pocket of sentiment among a few?

I believe it can be summed up by "desperate times call for desperate measures".

The perception of this president has gone from, "he's a lousy president and isn't good for this country" to "he is an abomination and is intentionally destroying this country from the inside out and it may never recover".

Those are two totally different things. The latter being perceived as pure "evil". Most Christians or those who have a Christian identity will only condone the killing of one man; Satan.

People take their country very seriously. Especially those who have seen depression, oppression, war, racism, social change, etc. They have witnessed the evolution of our America therefore have a wide perspective. Somebody born in the 80's really hasn't seen the gradual degradation of the U.S. That's not mean as a "dis" to the younger crowd, it's just a fact of life.

I didn't live during the depression but I now understand why those folks became spendthrifts and hoarded their belongings and money and lived on meager means even though the depression was long over. Looking around at what I see today and knowing how fragile our economy and society really is, I can fully understand the mindset.

When you are witnessing what you perceive to be the intentional destruction of the country you were born and raised in; the country you have pride in and perhaps have fought for, it is not difficult to fathom why somebody (or many people) would want to see the perceived perpetrator dead.

DO NOT confuse this with vile political vitriol. No fair-minded individual would wish death upon any president simply because he was a poor president. That would be reserved for "whack jobs". This is about something much more sinister and evil that a bad president.

What blows my mind is that there is still 45% of the population who don't see it.

people from Canada go to the states for health care? are you crazy? Don't Americans come HERE for cheaper medication (specifically retirees)? When my dad was battling cancer he got treatment at the BEST hospital in Canada for cancer treatment. There was no undue wait time, the treatment was covered by our socialized medicine (fortunately he beat it and has been cancer free for almost a decade). When my elderly aunt had to go in to surgery to have part of a lung removed one of the best surgeons (thoracic? he specialized in lung surgery) happened to be in the city for,I believe a lecture he was giving at the teaching hospital. He decided to perform the surgery, because 'why not?'. So don't make it sound like we're flocking to the states for treatment. I'm sure that there are chronic medical conditions that would lead to a Canadian going south of the border for treatment, but those would be cases where the states had a hospital dedicated to (or at least primarily interested in) research and treatment of said disease.
As for suicide rates in Japan, you're totally glossing over the huge cultural difference between Japan and much of the western world regarding the social acceptance of suicide.

Thanks for your answer. Why do you think there's such a knee-jerk reaction (or at least a perceived one) to the idea of socialized medical care in the states? I'm aware that Obamacare isn't exactly socialized medicare, but I get the distinct impression by the way it's phrased by a lot of tea party types that it's the *socialized* aspect they don't like?

To tie this back to the original topic, I wasn't trying to support the idea of an assassination, just wondering if talk of such could be considered treason given Constitutional permission to dismantle the government. Which you also clarified for me, so thanks on that too.

sorry about loverboy. At least there's always Neil Young, Rush, and BTO to make up for them.

Thank you. This was very insightful! And you are right, the march for big government from the 80's to now has been very active. I do recalling after 911 saying "since when did Republicans want Big Govt?"
But that doesn't dismiss the fact that if you do a search for hate words towards Obama on this site alone, you'll get a big shock.
Shoot Obama gets 10 pages with this reference. (see link)

Wow Flatfish- I cannot believe you said "whatever happened to majority rules?"- the MAJORITY of the people DID NOT want Obamacare and he went and shoved it down our throats anyway.
I'm sorry but it does not seem like this man cares about you,me, or anyone else in this country.....

It's a credit to an Obama water-carrying MSM, with their JOURNOLIST, or daily talking points for sure.

But the biggest culprit is the National Education Association, which doesn't teach US history the same way they did back in the 50's and 60's.

Today, the dead Founders are referred to as, Dead white guys, who were "People of Property", as Barack Obama told us the other day. IOW, slave masters, as well as land owners.

I'm 64 years old and because of what I was taught and learned firsthand in this wonderful country of ours

Yes, yes...of course...That stat is common knowledge...

Here are some other well known stats...

65% of men who decribe themselves as Republicans admit to having inappropriate sexual fantasies involving either Glen Beck or Rush Limbaugh.

85% of people who describe themselves as being opposed to the Obama administration admit to misrepresenting the truth to others at least once a week in hopes of garnering support for thier political view.

95% of conservatives who post on political forums admit that they often fictionalize statistics while providing no links or supporting evidence.

I don't believe that's it at all.

Since we're throwing percentages around like they were free today, I'd venture to say that at least 65% of pre-Obama ATSers didn't vote for either party. Many, many people here view this administration as being the same as the last and warned people of such. The proof is probably in the archives.

Seems to me that it's more like a combination a few of these people (disappointed in Obama...but they're not the majority spewing hate). coupled with mostly disenfranchised and displaced Republicans and conservatives and neoconservatives or whatever the right labels are who wholeheartedly supported and miss Bush, wanted McCain and Palin, didn't know who Ron Paul was BB, and who are now hiding behind the Tea Party and the Constitution and spewing bile. I watched it happen. And they can't even cop to what they're doing.
And I bet the archives might just be full of proof of that too.

I second that. I'm curious as to how much of this anti-Obama sentiment is coming from people who truly support neither 'side' (because they're really the same broken donkey/elephant monstrosity), and were equally outraged at the 8 years of bs bestowed upon your country by Bush (tax cuts for the wealthy, running up a deficit, deciding that perhaps the national parks were a good place to look for more oil).... or just NeoCons who can't tolerate anybody but them having any say in how a (supposedly) democratic country is run.
I hate having to care about what goes on with your country's politricks, but I can't shake a creeping fear that your politicians and their corporate masters will look up at Canada and our natural resources and decide that it's time to fabricate misinformation about us being a threat as justification to Afghanify us. I don't think I'm the majority, and I don't fully believe there's any real risk of that happening... but...

It doesn't matter whom I voted for...

The choice wasn't a Republican vs a Democrat the last election.

It was a choice between free-markets, personal responsibility vs. Socialism and the end of liberty and choice as I experienced since 1946...and a Manchurian Candidate-type Marxist charlatan.

A president that hates the USA I know and love is what we got.

Anybody who voted for him owes the country an apology.

Straight up, "Dude"!

personal responsibility like how the right wants to dictate who can or cannot marry?

personal responsibility like how each legally eligible citizen is allowed to vote for the candidate that they feel/hope will best represent their wishes for the country?

free market like how halliburton just *happened* to get all of those sweet contracts in Iraq?

I'll finish my thought with 'dude' so you can more easily dismiss me.
dude.
