Mods can move this post if there is a better place.

This is beyond stupid! A church is going to burn Korans. The Koran is held in extreme reverence by those of the Islamic faith. To them this will be an insult to them and their god, Allah. It is SURE to cause serious problems not only in their community but perhaps around the world.

Perhaps they want to collect the fire insurance on their church. This type of insult will not go unanswered. You would think someone in the congregation would have some sense and object. We all should have tolerance for the religion of others.

What if a Hindu temple were burning bibles? Would those of us that are Christians not feel revulsion. In my opinion this is a hate crime designed to infuriate the Florida Islamic community,

It's disheartening to see how incredibly daft some people are when it comes down to it.

"We feel, as Christians, one of our jobs is to warn," said Jones, and that the goal these and other protests are to give Muslims an opportunity to convert.

Seriously?!? There's nothing quite like persuading someone to convert their religion than by burning their most treasured book.

This is nothing more than a lame, sensationalist attempt to denigrate an entire religion based on the actions of a few extremists.

1984 anybody?

The fall of any society comes when those of power or revered status begin burning books.

This is ridiculous, like they are going to convert anybody. You know what will happen, somebody will get shot.

And who will the media blame? Muslim Extremists, instead of these idiots who will incite that violence with their religious zealotry.

I disagree.

This type of crap would have NO EFFECT and never hit the media, if the religion being trolled (Islam) wasn't so amazingly easy to 'offend'. Maybe they need to get a grip and get over it?

Also the trolls starting this (Xtians) also need to get a grip and read Fahrenheit 451.

I think they need to research what the symbol of the Dove stands for, not to mention the meaning of the word "outreach".

I burnt a barrel full of bibles to stay warm once. Weird story, I guess.

'Amazingly easy to offend' ????

Yeah, because no christian would ever be offended if someone decided to burn the bible.

I mea seriously, burning another religions holy book in an attempt to convert them to your religion is just ridiculous.

Actually, I stand corrected, It's even more ridiculous that these people (the ones who burned it) don’t seem to understand what is wrong with this.

Oh and have a look at this from the link in the OP:

The church, which also protests against issues such as homosexuality, same-sex marriage, and abortion, has decorated it's front lawn with signs proclaiming "Islam is of the devil!" and it's pastor, Terry Jones, has even authored a book with that title.

Sigh.

Yes how stupid can you get to burn any book. One day I hope to read the koran just to get the other guy's point of view. I just hope that the Islamic fundies do not mistake Terry Jones from Monty Python with the idiot associated with these fundamentalist Xtians.

Do we need any more stupidity in the world?

Oh yay...more misguided, attention-seeking, purposeful, hateful, fearful ignorance.
stupid church in Florida!

I'm so sorry they're getting any attention at all for this. And I'm ashamed to have even commented in this thread to have participated in that attention.

Asalamalakum...

I was thinking the same thing. I would imagine that if a organization did a large Bible burning event, it would be a major news story on Fox News for days. With such comments as it was a war on Christianity and the continued persecution of Christians in America. It would be bigger than the annual war on Christmas "Happy Holiday" stories.

The radio talking heads would be quick to associate it with the liberalization of America. A plot by socialists and progressives to destroy the very core of the United States.

I do not understand the thinking here. They either had to buy these books or at least put effort into getting free ones. They are going to burn them. Then what? Are they expecting Muslims to repent and convert? Declare Jihad on them? All I see it doing is getting the parishoners all excited about a church they already belong to but maybe that lubricates the wallets.

Maybe it just my sense of humour but somebody should deliver them a container truck worth of fireproof Koran and declare it a miracle when it wont burn...

Yeah this is pretty sad. I can't believe a so-called "Christian" would resort to this.

I can't remember who said this quote, but it is very true and appropriate (paraphrasing):

"Those who burn books, will eventually burn people."

Bet they're not even going to use "real" Korans. There would be far too much danger in the devil leaping from the pages and beheading them.

Does the "International" part of "International Burn a Koran Day" bother anyone else?

Ahh the old convert or be slaughtered mentality again.

What century does this excrement for brains think he's living in?!

The conquistadors style of conversion, went out of fashion centuries ago.

This berk and his kind are the sort that do a great disservice to genuine, respectable people everywhere. He should be arrested for incitement to violence and religious hatred methinks.

Love thy neighbour eh?

@ Kommunist;

"Those who burn books, will eventually burn people."

The religious right have already done it mate, they called the victims heretics and witches.

LMAO...they'd probably say it was the devil's work rather than a miracle..if it were bibles, then that of course would be a miracle.

They didn't tell you Memory?

They're tring to bring the 1950's back. You know Neo Cons and what not.

I'm very sad to watch things unfold like this in today's world.

I just asked my daughter what she thought about book burning, and she replied:

" Why would you destroy a valuable book, it's not the books fault it's the people who misenterprete the books for their own selfish gain."

Could not have said it better myself.

I want to see what happens if they forcefully get every Quran from all across they world and burn them.

Do they expect it to vanish? Millions of people have memorized it.

So I guess the next step is to Burn Millions of people who have memorized the Quran because they are the walking, talking version.
