The thought that comes to mind is nuclear weapons....not chemtrails..

well, but considering we are now in the twenty-first century - and the 20th is completely behind us...it doesn't seem to be fatal.

look at what we survived in the twentieth century:

TWO world wars
the detonation of two atomic bombs on Japan by the U.S.
the cold war
the *dawn* of the nuclear age in which so much atomic testing was done, it made Nagasaki and Hiroshima look like pick up sticks.
the gasoline crisis in the early 70's.
the battle over civil rights and the strife of de-segregation
the industrial age
Chernobyl and 3 Mile Island
Watergate
the space race
Korea, Vietnam, Operation Desert Storm, etc.

it does seem to fit, but remember, this is no longer the twentieth century!

the clouds are mentioned with Germany - perhaps mustard gas?
that's where it first was discovered and developed, to try to bring a quicker end to WWI, although admittedly that idea failed.
