The problem is, no one is willing to pay for this or finance it. Freelancers can spend as much if not more time selling their stories as they do investigating and writing.

The media exists for one purpose, to shape public opinion the way they want. They being the elite of the world. The whole idea of left vs. right is just an illusion. The reality is both the left and right serve the same master.

The elite of the world wanted Obama to be president and they made it happen by creating a favorable image of him in the media while ignoring any news that would not make him look good. He belonged to Rev. Wrights racist white-hating church for 20 years and claimed that he was not aware of any racist sermons that he consistantly preached. Nobody in the media called him out for that and the story was quickly squashed. Some how I think they would have reacted differently if John McCain was part of a white supremacy church that preached hate.

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a collaborative group effort of real journalists reporting real news? You could find things like good news about the military, or some dirt on a local politician before it gets white washed. Journalistic integrity. What a concept.

I agree 1000% man.

You have news outlets like the New York Times reporting only how bad the war was going and then news outlets like Fox News reporting on how awesome the war was going.

The people are smart enough to figure this # out for themselves.

Bias sells.

And that is the bottom line.

Once upon a time...in my lifetime...News was considered a "loss leader".

This means in general that it was not a profit-center. Even papers relied on classifieds etc. for thier primary source of revenue.

Cable news cropped up, CNN etc. and everything began to change quick.

Fast forward to where news is for profit. Chris Mathews, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh et al.

Ever have a sick day from work and find yourself in front of the television watching something you would never normally watch? Just flipping channels? And you notice a whole different set of commercials...targeted at a completely different Demographic?

Now that News is for profit..they need to make money with advertisers...advertisers need to know they are hitting a very specific Demographic (Age range, income level etc.)

So in for-profit media news shows must have a consistent and loyal following of a certain demographic....so thier advertisers know they are reaching who they want.

They do this not by being objective, but by telling viewers what they want to hear...keep them comming back for more.

It's that simple.

Lets take a look from a marketeers perspective...

Glen Beck's audience..
Male 62%
Female 38%

Age
18-34 15%
35-49 29%
50+ 46%

Income
0-30k 14%
30-60k 25%
60-100k 26%
100k + 35%

Caucasion 95%
www.quantcast.com...

Rush has the same Demographic Audience but larger male following:
www.quantcast.com...

Looking to reach conservative white males, over fifty, making 100k+ ? advertise on Glenn Beck or Rush....as long as long as they keep a steady hold of that market segment by telling them what they want to hear.

Same goes on Olbermann etc.

Objectivity and old fashioned reporting subjugated to the almighty dollar.

Welcome to modern day "news".
