He deserved to be fired.

Not because of what he said, but because of what he didn't do.

As a white male in the United States of America you cannot make a joke linking black people to kool aide, watermellon, fried chicken, cadillacs, gangs, crime and a host of other things.

He deserves to be fired because he didn't follow the proper protocols of being a white male in the USA and he vaguely linked watermellon to a black person (even though Obama is half white it still counts.).

White people, just because a black person says it doesn't mean you can say it. Just because a black person can make fun of white people doesn't mean you can do it also. This is an accepted form of double standard that everybody has accepted and your life will be ruined if you try and stray from the path.

I already agreed that in an earlier post that one should be very careful about what one says at work or work sponsored events. I just feel that those here calling the man a "racist" is way out of hand. Heck, the guy might even have a black wife, who knows. He used a stereotype in a joke, which in this PC world, is not allowed. He was terminated from work, fine. But let's not call him a racist.

Obama fruit. What a stupid thing to get excited over. Of course, I wouldn't understand because my ancestors weren't down-trodden and underpriviliged. Blacks can say whatever they want about white people - or other blacks for that matter - but let a white person even acknowledge a person is black and they all start screaming racist. The race card has been pulled so many times that I NEVER believe it now. If these people don't like our country, get on a boat and head east.

i could not agree more!

it almost seems like nowadays if a white person makes 'racist comments' of another race then it's the end of the world. but if a minority makes racist comments of the majority white race then it's 'OK'. *roles eyes*

even look at it this way... even if that situation was reversed with say a black guy working at some random business and made fun of a white president with the term 'cracker' or something along those lines i doubt this would have even been a issue at all.

personally, i would not even really give a damn. to me this whole thing is a non-issue, but apparently a guy lost his job over some petty stuff.

because at the end of the day NO HARM was really done by what that guy said. at the very least they could have gave the guy a warning or something before flat out firing him.

OMG I just spit up soda laughing when I read the title of this post!

I just picture this guy saying this loudly at his company picnic in the middle of a group of black people and then panicking when he starts hearing crickets chirping. "Erm...tough crowd"

My Mexican friend told me some pretty hilarious white jokes the other day. I told her some Mexican jokes. We were cracking up. I wonder if this makes us both racists?

This guy was an idiot for saying this in a work setting, though, I gotta admit.

You know what's really, genuinely depressing about this thread? The fact that the majority of people posting in it think it's great and funny and cool to make jokes using old "slave-food" stereotypes.

"Black people only eat them some watermelon and some fried chicken, y'all, hurr hurr...Obama fruit, geddit? Hurr hurr hurr..."

It seems to me that in the year 2010, we've actually regressed, societally, beause I know for damn sure that that kind of talk was frowned upon when I was growing up. Y'all make my grandaddy look progressive. He would never have talked like that, and he was born 100 years ago.

I have to believe that this kind of ignorance, displayed in this thread, is only limited to the minority, and that the majority of people in America don't feel the same way you do. Otherwise, it's just too damn depressing.

You made great points about the Indians losing there land and of course it's wrong but European Americans(whites) were slaves too and you must not over look that, to me there is no double standard i wont stand for it, all races of people have been mistreated through out time and none of it's fair bottom line...

But the guy was out of line for saying that watermelon is Obama fruit, now if he said Obama is a socialist or in bed with the Illuminati that would be different because that might just be true....we will wait and see.

This is sad. Whatever happened to just telling people at work" Hey I find that offensive, cut it out" . Then if they persist report them. This person is just a trouble maker. In my experience I find black people are more racist than the whites. Search around on google and you'll see

stuffwhitepeoplelike.com...

I found alot of it funny.

What are you talking about? Seriously, what does any of what you are posting mean. I am having trouble finding any post where I said anything about laws.

You are the one telling people they need to stop freaking out when all they have done is say he should have gotten fired, like he did. What planet is this thread on?

This thread amazes me. How many of you are seriously whining because you now know you might get fired for making a lame-ass watermelon joke about a black person? 'Black people make fun of white people and boo hoo hoo.' Grow a pair, be the bigger person, act like an adult, show you are better. If black people are the only ones ever being racist, you will eventually make your point. Continuing to do something out of revenge that they are still getting used to being able to do will accomplish what?

Wow guys , this guys words may have not been in malicious intent, however calling watermelon "Obama Fruit" is extremely racist. Back in the day white folk had slaves(african folk). Well the slaves were really poor, cause well ,they were slaves. Watermelon was easy to grow and pretty inexpensive. Said slaves would eat watermelon, however White folks looked down on watermelon being such a low class food not to mention their feelings of the lower class african folk. They thought it was humourous that slaves ate watermelon,There are even decorations and art from this era depicting this. Google it, its really derogatory with veiled racism. So yeah this goes back a while before equal rights, when racism was rampant.

See, the first one explaining why it is considered racist?

I have a clip from Obama that some could say is a racist remark considering the new immigration laws in Arizona.

www.youtube.com...

would you say that someone could take this out of context to think it sounds like a racist remark.

I love that the guy says "I'm not racist".

I think the main problem for most racists is that they have no clue that they are racists..they see this as normal behavior. Which is why we have the problem we have today...with a bunch of people not being able to see the blatant racism that has sprouted since Obama won the election.

Just because you say "I'm not racist" doesn't make it true...you will be judged by your actions...not a self-label.

I love the ones that say, "I am not a racist." and yet only have white friends.

LOL

But what the dude stated was racist.

So that makes three times now. How many times are you going to offer up this clip of Obama saying Adios with no one biting before you give up? We saw it all 3 times now. You have consistently failed to explain the racism.

Hell, a black friend in college called me a brown noser; I told him with that and being
hung like I am, that should make me an honorary negro.

He about # his pants laughing so hard.

I guess some stereotypes are ok to joke about. Some people are not tooooooooooo bright.

I don't see the big deal Obama isn't even black he's mixed race at best and definitely towards the lighter skin tone side of the spectrum. I really don't think Obama has any slaves in his family tree so the watermelon thing doesn't even make sense.

I'm not American but that's my opinion for what it's worth.
