I've discovered an interesting link between the Obama Administration's Campaigne platform and the Socialist Equality Party's resolute agenda proclaimed April of this year, as provided by the World Socialist Website!

Resolutions of the Conference on Social Crisis & War

The following resolutions were passed unanimously at the SEP Emergency Conference on the Social Crisis & War, held April 17-18 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Resolution 1: For an emergency jobs program! For the nationalization of the banks and the redistribution of wealth!

Resolution 3: For the international unity of the working class!

Resolution 4: Withdraw all troops from Iraq and Afghanistan!

Resolution 5: Break with the Democrats and Republicans! For an independent socialist movement of the working class!

Resolution on the youth and education

This interesting resolution is being adopted by the Socialist Equality Party - How many people does this 'Party' influence? and why are they interested in returning to the original Platform Obama campaigned on? What link do these people have to Obama?

No doubt, I'll kick myself for replying to your thread but ....

The only resolution that I remember being definitely on Obama's list of campaign promises was the immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. The "creation of jobs" idea was either a campaign promise or a post-election soundbite but you'd have to show me where he promised any of the other items, especially breaking with the Democrats?

Regardless of any promises made, Obama has proven:

1. that he had no intention of immediately withdrawing troops within 6 months. They're still there 18 months later and will still be there for years to come unless Obama is successful in starting the Iran war which will become the priority for the troops.

2. that he was not serious about reigning in the banks - he borrowed $trillions from the banks on our slate to prop up the banks thereby exponentially increasing our debt burden and justifying the austerity measures that will also serve the bankers' interest (no pun intended!) He put the same people who authored the 2008 Financial Crisis back in charge of the economy and then pushed through a Financial Reform Bill that does nothing of the sort.

3. that he had no intention of reforming the health industry and certainly no interest in providing a "public option." As expected by many pundits, he quickly let the opposition talk him out of the public option and the final bill in effect just made it mandatory that people buy health insurance at whatever rate the companies set without any real protection against coverage being dropped. There's certainly no protection against becoming destitute by the uncovered costs and there's still millions who won't be covered.

4. Not sure what he has in mind for youth but the privatisation of education continues unabated.

You might notice that most of the links that I provided are from the WSWS website and anyone with half an interest will find plenty of documentation there to answer any "interesting" questions about the SEP. Beyond that, you can actually contact any of the SEP candidates or WSWS writers and get additional information.

One thing that you'll find for sure is that there is a Grand Canyon of difference between Obama's platform and that of any SEP candidate.
