2 Issues for Australians to consider before Election

Australian citizens will head to the polls in about a months time to vote in our next Federal Government for the next 3 years. Whether you believe voting is rigged, a shadow Government is picking the winners or your single vote can make all the difference, it is important that Australians voice their concerns towards these issues. It is now an IDEAL time to make as much noise about these issues as possible, and get them talked about and debated about in the public domain.

1) Mass-immigration: Australia cannot sustain its current population growth without it damaging the quality of life for all Australians living here. Immigration is NOT the problem, MASS-Immigration IS a very real problem. Cut down the numbers so that we can sustain a realistic population growth.

LAND MASS is the not the issue! Resources, infrastructure and quality of life ARE the important considerations!

2) Internet Filter: This one is pretty much a no-brainier. All Australian Internet users should not have to suffer for the ineptitude of parents failing to monitor their kids. Granted, kids cannot realistically be watched 24-7, but simple supervision and monitoring by the average parent would do MUCH more than any Filter could try to. Remember, this is being marketed as a "preventing child p**n" measure, but if that were the case then why are there SO many other things that have nothing to do with child p**n on the list of things to be banned? [Words censored so that ATS pages are not linked with a web search using those terms together.]

Internet speeds in Australia already trail behind many other Western countries, but will plummet further with a mandatory filter that will interfere with all traffic, not just traffic relating to the banned content.

Also keep in mind that this Filter has no guarantee of blocking the content it is advertised as being able to stopped. A workaround will be available soon after it is implemented and various other means will be established.

Talk about these issues with your family, friends and co-workers. If they appear not to care, try mentioning why you think it is important for them to think about. Don't force your views on others, rather ask them to consider these issues and what long-term effects they might have on the country!

EDIT: Reduced it 2 issues. Nobody seems to care much about the "Boarder Security" issue so I have removed it.

1) Both parties have stated they want to slow population growth.

2) The tiny amount that arrive by boat is irrelevant.

3) The filters are useless and easy to bypass.

Have you any real issues we should vote on???

Taxes, size of Gov spending, health, IR, infrastructure??????

1) Both parties have stated they want to slow population growth.

But how are they going to go about doing this?

2) The tiny amount that arrive by boat is irrelevant.

What message does Australia send to the world when it fails to secure its own borders? Border security is very relevant considering the current state of the world.

3) The filters are useless and easy to bypass.

That is quite a revelation. You know what? Never mind about the net filter issue. I am sold. /sarcasm

Have you thought about where this might lead to a little later down the track?

Those issues are general problems that come up every election year. The ones I have mentioned are specifically relevant to the current Election. You might as well mention "curbing youth binge drinking" and "road safety" because those issues are also brought up every election too. I agree they are important, but they are certainly not new issues that the average Australian is unaware of.

1. I think mass immigration is going to be a necessity. With all the baby boomer's that are going to be hitting the pension in the next few years there's going to be a lot of pressure on the younger generations who are already going to have to deal with a bleak future economically speaking. I know there's pretty much 0% chance of this happening but I think we need to start developing more inland urban centre's and improve our integration of people from other cultures.
2. The assylum seeker thing is a complete non-issue. It's simply a stupid media/political created attempt to put us in a state of fear so that we can go running to those in power looking for a solution. Our borders are perfectly secure. Compared with other countries we have an amazingly low number of refugees trying to get in, I think we're ranked like the 30 something country in terms of refugee's attempting to get in. South Africa recieves tens of thousands of refugee's every year. GET OVER IT!
3. Internet censorship is going to be the nail in the coffin for labour. Maybe not at this election but in the future for sure. Didn't Gillard drop it anyway? This is probably one of the few things I think the Aussie people will man up to the government over... at least I hope it is...

Not that I've had an ear to the news every five minutes, quite the opposite actually, but it seems the internet filter has dropped off the map since Gillard has taken over the reigns.

I'm racking my brain trying to remember what her feelings on the plan were before becoming PM?

the real event that will lower the quality of our lives here is to re-elect labor or vote the libs in. we should let the independants/greens have a go, and see if they are controlled by the NWO/zionists.

talk about it with your family etc., you make it sound like you have the only solution. and as virgom129 said, the amount of refugees we collect are irrelavant. but a good oportunity to show compassion to those less fortunate. remember, god is watching our every move. love others as yourself.

Don't be deceived by the Greens, they are not all that they appear to be. Unless you are Pro-Gay Marriage and Pro-Climate Change, you will just be voting in a party with the illusion of change. Remember how radically different the perception of Labor seemed when the Liberals were in power? Power corrupts and the Greens are not immune.

Um, how does encouraging others to discuss these issues with their families and friends make it look like I have the only solution?
The point is to get people interested in the political decisions that shape our future, as opposed to fixating on who made the final in Master Chef

Yes, God does seem to be doing a lot of watching. Let's pray for His sake that negligence is a forgivable sin!

Yes, that is interesting. I have been wondering the same thing. Would be great if someone could get some footage of a reporter asking her what she thinks about the proposed Internet Filter.

Explanation: Sigh!

Doesn't nearly every Australian own a PC???

Computer Ownership Per Country (by Zee) [thenextweb.com]

Ranked No#8 in the world 2006 Australia 75.7 PC's per 100 persons (economist.com) Source, "Pocket World in Figures", based on data from the International Telecommunication Union.

Plus we've had 1/3rd of the 1million computers promised to the high school students rolled out so far SINCE 2007!

High school students still waiting for Rudd computers (by Justine Ferrari ) [theaustralian.com.au]

Therefor It would not be beyond reason to install a LEADERLESS democracy where we all vote on 1 specified day per luna month [28days] on all current issues of concern by referendum conducted online and for the rest of the 27days debate can rage across the internet on the issues.

We the people become the legislature+senate and the Public Service can remain [make the head pubes the ministers under our direct control] and the Judiciary can remain and the office of Governor General or similar can remain!

Personal Disclosure: Personalities, Parties and Politicians come and go and are ALL MSM hyped distractions from the POLICIES which we all have to live with! Lets dump all the distractions and just deal with the duty of care policies we all deserve already! You Know It Make Sense!!!

P.S Due to the quantum theory of TPTB ..there will always be a TPTB...I'm just trying to widen that demographic to include us all!

Listen, what 2 consenting adults do is their own business - and if they love eachother why should they not be aloud to marry? Over 50% of hetero marriages end in divorce these days - so obviously this sanctimonious attitude to marriage is built on a fallacy and is discriminatory in its entirety. Why are you against Gay Marriage?

And you don't think climate change is real? Please! - "Climate Gate" involved 5 out of approx. 300+ data sets, so you have no leg to stand on from that standpoint.

Also, don't you think, considering that we are in the 21st century, that we should be moving away from finite fossil fuels that pollute our breathing air (if nothing else) - perhaps you've inhaled too many micro-carbons and it's damaged your frontal lobe, if you don't see the sense in renewable's replacing coal, gas and oil, why don't you go live in Beijing for a week and then tell me why.

The Greens have more policy initiatives than Labor or Liberal combined.

They are more labour than Labor and more liberal than Liberal. And obviously far Greener than both.

The Greens are virtually incorruptible - and is inherently so because of the way the party is structured. Its whole decision making process is radically different from that of Labor or Liberal, and this scares them. Any major decision the Greens make has to go through a massive process of local meetings then regional meetings then state meetings and then national meetings, and any action taken must be in accordance with The Charter of the Australian Greens - they are bound to it. Its not top down, its ground up grass roots.

The Greens also have a policy of not receiving corporate donations. The more you learn about The Greens the less you will be able to criticise them - I suggest you start your research.

This is how I am placing my preferences.

Vote 01 The Greens
Vote 02 Australian Democrats
Vote 03 Australian Sex Party
Vote 04 Socialist Alliance
Vote 05 Communist Alliance
Vote 06 Socialist Equality Party
Vote 07 Secular Party of Australia

Vote 09 One-Nation
Vote 10 Citizens Electoral Council of Australia
Vote 11 Carers Alliance
Vote 12 Liberal Democratic Party
Vote 13 Australian Labor Party (ALP)

Vote 16 Non-Custodial Parents Party (Equal Parenting)
Vote 17 Democratic Labor Party (DLP) of Australia

Vote 20 Shooters and Fishers Party
Vote 21 Country Liberals
Vote 22 National Party of Australia
Vote 23 Liberal Party of Australia

Vote 25 Australia First Party

Do you even know what the Greens policies are? Once you read them, you will understand why the establishment tries to marginalize and misrepresent them all the time.

greens.org.au/policies

They want to restructure the UN, abolish or restructure the IMF, WTO and World Bank, re-write the constitution etc.

The following table demonstrates how the existing Australian Constitution compares with the provisions contained in other modern democracies. Now we might have some of this stuff, but its not protected by our constitution.

Why the need to go on the defensive? I was merely stating that if one does believe in Gay Marriage and Climate change, then the Greens would be the attractive choice for them. If those issues are not important in your mind, then the Greens are nothing that special, just a change from the big two.

I just wouldn't be too excited about any "radical changes" if Greens are voted in because ultimately they will bow to the same Masters that the Liberals and Labor currently do. Funny how you think the Greens are immune to corruption...but anyway, you are entitled to your opinion.

At least the Australians don't have a schizophrenic party like the US democratic party.

They are a combination of your Labor and Greens.

The Greens also have a policy of not receiving corporate donations

Yes no corporate donations that i will believe when h**l freezes over.

They will take corporate donations from any greens run corporations.

Our democrats say they would like to do away with donations from all special interest groups for all politicians.

But then they fit in loopholes so that the environmental movement and unions are not counted as special interest groups.
or the corporation that want to hide the money they are giving to the democrats do its by feeding it through a front organization.

They try to set it up so they still get there money but the Republicans can get none.

Never trust a political party they will claim one thing and use loopholes to do just the opposite.

I don't see why you removed boarder security, I would have thought that in a country like Australia where boards are a major part of the economy, surfing and its cousin skateboarding it would remain at the very least an econnomic concern.

Boarder security should be a huge issue going beyond the wearing of padding and taking part in the correct areas, encompassing all potential risks particularly those risks that involve Muslims.

More funding for the police so they can monitor and oversee boarders who want to take part in their sports safely and securely away from the dangers of the modern world.

Australian Federal Elections (August 2010):

1. Healthcare/Dentalcare & hospital waiting lists*

2. Mental Health (perhaps Kibbutz/Moshav style accomodation is better suited to get our mental patients - and kids - off the streets)*

3. Nursing Homes: appauling conditions in many of our nursing homes*

4. Immigration: we need to adopt Arizona's new policies*

5. Solar Heating: more affordable solar panels/make them compulsary for new housing/apartment blocks (perfect example: Israel)

6. Imports of fresh food from China/Asia barred

7. Use of certain pesticides on our crops barred

*priority

NSW State Elections (November 2010):

1. More affordable housing for families*

2. Public transport

3. Healthcare (see Fed above)

*priority

I initially presented this thread intending to bring into discussion the following three issues: Mass-Immigration, Boarder Security and the Mandatory Internet Filter. I never meant for these issues to be "top priorities" - just ones that were particularly relevant to this coming election.

Those issues you have mentioned are important, but they are ones brought forth every time there is an election. It is imperative that they get resolved, but this thread was meant to encourage debate on other issues; ones more specifically related to the the up-coming election.

Pretty much every poster disagreed that "Boarder Security" was an important issue, therefore I removed it. There is little value in presenting something for debate when the vast majority disagree it is a worthy area of debate.

As a citizen of Australia everything is relevant in this election both Fed and State since the Federal elections and NSW elections are close together.

Whats relevant to you may not be relevant to me as a voter however most Australians agree that our immigration policies and border security are in need of a major overhaul.

If you want to encourage debate on other issues, ones more specifically related to the up-coming Federal elections then I guess us voters really don't have much say so we'll just allow the "Elite" to decide for us who our next leader will be at any given time - meaning if they're not happy within a year or two we can be sure we will have multiple leaders over a 3 year course. Hence...why bother voting in the first place.

Sorry, I got abit off track
