I just happen to have the TV on and watching Sean Penn lay a massive guilt trip at the feet of America.

You know the type...I won't list dozens of famous people with this mindset.

My question or statement is: What is up with these Hollywood idiot's that want to point a finger at you and me, not themselves? Is there some type of guilt that comes with lots of money? Could it be a move to make themselves feel better? Are their egos so inflated that they can fly to east bumble f#ck and walk around with a film crew as if they came to save the day with American guilt? Why do they waste time asking for my peanuts? Go to the real corporations and people with vast amounts of money. This is just, the little man bailing out everyone.
My heart does go out to people in need, but why waste time with millions of in debt Americans, when they could ask a few trillionaires for some scraps they made while I was typing this short post.
I can appreciate the information, but save the guilt for the people with real money. My $10 will be so watered down by the time it makes it's way to another country, it might by some raman noodles...

This also applies to their ideal of what society should and shouldn't be.

Coming from a psychological perspective (I'm in the mental health field) you have to remember that most of these people are narcissists. True narcissism, contrary to popular belief, has very little to do with admiring one's own looks, although that can be part of it. Narcissism is preoccupation with self importance. Once these people become wealthy and famous, and join in with the "in" club of the Hollywood elite, they compete with each other in whatever is the trendy theme of the moment. For example, one of them adopts one or two third world orphans and shows off "looky how wonderful and loving I am!" so then others have to get in on the act and before long you have half a dozen rich stars adopting African and Asian orphans. Same thing when one of them adopts a cause, like starvation, cancer, etc.

One of the most fascinating "trends" is the whole militant-liberal thing, getting angry and bitter and speaking about about gay rights, conservative-bashing and embracing socialist and marxist values. It's the same phenomenon only the message here is, "Looky how tolerant and progressive I AM!" So the next one has to out-do that guy and so on.

Get the picture? (No pun intended)

So you see, all this stuff they do is ALL about attention-seeking and making themselves seem god-like to their peers and heros to the rest of the world. While it may SEEM like they are concerned for the plight of the starving children in Darfur it really is just about THEM exerting self-importance to garner admiration and adoration - especially if their careers have stalled in the limelight.

You're absolutely right! They are so concerned that they bring a film crew and pose with the starving children and devastated areas...

Great points!

I always hated that too. Sell your house in Beverly Hills, the summer house in Vermont and the winter get away in the Carribean. Move to a tiny apartment like me, then ask me for money.
Maybe forgo the gucci dress at the next red carpet whatever and go to the discount clothes shop and get something in a polyester style....
Maybe they could stop perpetuating an industry of greed , selfishness and materialism too. So we would be more apt to give our money away, instead of spending it on a new pair of Rocawear shoes.
Sheesh.....

When I worked as a cashier for extra money at Walmart last year, I got soooo sick of seeing Brad and Angie on the covers on the magazine rack. Once it always showed BradnAnjie's little girl Shiloh (whom they are raising as a boy???), and also the child of Tom Cruise's little girl.

The point I want to make is that they didn't show pictures of BradnAnjie's adopted children from other countries with dark skin and were not as "beautiful" as Shiloh. I guess all the poor kids they adopted are being raised by the staff. BradnAnjie are not even married.

They're all communists. Sean Penn's dad was communist too.

In the UK, we call people like this "Champagne Socialists".

It's basically just hypocrisy.

It's hypocrisy on a grand and glorious scale.

These folks have nothing to tell me/teach me about caring for my neighbors. No, I don't have a camera crew to tail me around, so it's quite obvious I don't do anything...

I donate when I can. I help others when I can. ...and that's all I can do. If I had more money to donate, I would. If I had more time to donate, I would. Mr. Penn, and others like him, have a need to blame someone, anyone, for the ills of the world. I have to wonder, though... Do they ever look in the mirror?

As someone above me in the thread said... forgo some of the fripperies of your life. The extra homes. The extra cars. The $10000 suit/dress they wear once...

All I want from Hollyweird is to know when the next good movie is due out... But since they can't even do that right most of the time... It might behoove them to shut the Hell up.

It would probably be easier for you to ignore them, if you don't like what they're saying.

Indeed, and for the most part I do. However, it is increasingly hard to avoid the sanctimonious blather when CNN/Fox et al seem to think their commentary worth while...

I'm curious as to why the media seems to think that their opinion is of such great importance...more so than, say, mine or yours...

Trust me, though... I ignore as best I can.

In the case of CNN, FOX and etc. it's probably because they employ people just to give opinions. They're pundits- giving their (often short sighted, bigoted or otherwise ignorant) opinions is what they're paid to do, and you'd have to say they do it pretty well.

What actually aggravates me the most is when people say " oh isn't he/she wonderful! They really care about those poor people in (place name here)" I mean... come on people, do the Math!!!!! Just because they took a private jet to Africa and walked around a village in their Gucci leather loafers for a couple hours and held some poor girls hand for 10 minutes does not make these people good! I am all for awareness but can someone else please do it, like somebody I might respect....heck, I'll even do it, let me stand out in the streets of hollywierd and beg them for money!

Once again, if you don't like it then you can simply not pay attention.

True...but its more fun to gripe.
I grew up thinking these people were totally cool. I am surrounded by people who say these things. Hence the aggravation. I am the type to stand in line at the supermarket and express my disgust at Tabloids. This is how I get my kicks!!! LOL

I'm as sick of Sean Penn's holier-than-thou attitude as well, but he stayed in Haiti after the cameras left to help out. He also did that at New Orleans with Katrina, so as much as he likes to pontificate, he also rolls up his sleeves and helps out personally without bringing camera crews with him at all times.

I think I'd rather have Sean Penn shake his fist at the sky about military spending v. social program spending than hear about another Kardashian crawling out of the muck and getting more TV time where they can spread their vapidness.
