"My monthly income from my personal savings and retirement plans are structured in such a way as to insure that rather than pay income taxes, I will be getting tax refunds. My house and land are paid for, and I will even get subsidies from the government for some of my land."

The way that i take this is that instead of putting into the system you will be mooching off of it. The same with making 187 people unemployed. I do you see your story as a win for capitalism but proof that social welfare systems are needed.

P.S. You have a great taste in movie.

Who is John Galt ?

I believe Atlas is shrugging.

Some have taken up the call of "Starve the Beast"

Galt's Gulch is a place where ppl who grew sick of of the
parasites and looters went to withdraw their aid from a
corrupt system.

en.wikipedia.org...

A lot of ppl are upset at their situation, and are angry to see the
ppl laid off by the OP because it has happened to them or ppl
they care about.

A lot of ppl see this act as one that is selfish, but yet they do not
have the same level of condemnation for those who coerced
the government officials into voting for the bailouts after they
had voted against them the first time.

The same level of anger for huge corruption or SIEU beating
black men in the street for supporting ron paul is not there ?

There is corruption in the government at all levels from local
up to the federal, some is not, but a lot of it is corrupt.

Phedrus is a free man, and has the right to open or close a
business as he sees fit.

As to those crying he was likely just a failure, I offer that
30 years is a long time to fail at anything.

No man is owed a job, no man is owed anything save what
the Constitution offers and that is a lot more than most of
what the rest of the world receives.

But we are quickly losing those rights and they are going ignored
by a government that is bought and paid for by ppl that have
subverted this nation.

It took a former KGB agent to make it clear to a lot of ppl
many years ago that ideological subversion was being done
to the US and has continued for many years.

A look back to a quarter of a century ago.

Yuri Bezmenov knew then what most of us did not figure out til
many years later.

Other ppl like Mr. perkins have exposed other lies in our system
and how corrupt things are becoming.

Some women have come forward, and just saw the events from
a liberal perspective such as Naomi Wolf.

More recently the liberals were seen to be doing some of the things
she mentioned.

Thus the phrase 2 sides of the same coin.

The government figureheads are just puppets for ppl that are
changing the system over to their "Novus ordo Seclorum".

en.wikipedia.org...

Why did they need to plan the federal reserve in secret on an island
off the coast ?

en.wikipedia.org...

As has been said many times before...

Good deeds are done in the light of day.

Also as said very long ago, You shall know them by their fruit.

So for someone to step away from what is being done and
withdraw their efforts from the system and starve the best
is much like Gandhi deciding to peacefully non cooperate.

Other ppl are leaving the game and moving to rural areas to
just get by til enough ppl wake up and realize the multiple
frauds that have been perpetrated at multiple levels.

Once the house of cards is in free fall and ppl awaken from their
slumber these ppl who are withdrawing now will offer their
experience to repair and rebuild the nation to its former self
with more protections in place against the kind of corruption
we saw take over the country.

700+ bases in 130+ countries makes us the new Rome, and
like Rome this empire is crumbling from within.

Prepare now for what is already coalescing before our very eyes.

Good Luck to you all !

I totally agree, with the OP! I myself, have grown damn tired, of having MY WEALTH, stolen from me. I did NOT start my businesses, to provide jobs, for others. I "closed my doors", last year. Oh, I have a few "part timers", but- no more, good, high-paying jobs, EVER, from ME!
(I have a 640 acre Ranch/Farm). Yes, I am now mostly retired- and those that bitched, about having to be at work SOBER, at 8AM, no longer have to worry. I hope they enjoy, their "change". I am!

self first

God can take care of herself

I honestly hope you do not have children who suffer by your creed.

In short...

I believe your business failed and unable to accept responsibility you have chosen to blame the "system".

You then employed an accounting firm and tax attorney to game the system as much as possible for your own benefit.

And then handily went about blaming that system, rather than taking responsibility, for your own failure.

You could likely have sucess in a second career on Wall Street.

As for the John Galt/Atlas Shrugs crowd?

It was a fictional book.

A well written philosophical examination of rational self-interest and objectivism, but in the end a FICTION appealing to the baser instincts of the human mind.

In the real world Ayn Rands philosophy of "Self-Interest" is reflected in thieves such as Bernie Madofff and those who led the parade in the near collapse of the US economy.

When self-interest involves defrauding, swindling and every other form of moral bankruptcy to the tune of Billions...it is not in the best interest for a society.

Communism and Socialism is not the answer...and guess what? Despite what the philosophical geniuses, Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh say, we are not heading there either. Not even close.

Unbound capitalism and unbound socialism are two roads that lead to the same place...mass exploitation of the masses and a failure of society.

Atlas Shrugs was a brilliant fiction illuminating a psuedo-philosophy....but a fiction all the same and it has evolved into nothing more than a psuedo-intellectual rhetorical talking point for those that choose to live thier lives in a morally bankrupt fashion, saying "me, me, me ,me"... I avoid those wastes of humanity like the plague.

You're right, the norm in America is for young women to pop out a baby every year solely because they want money.

People like you, with zero sympathy for obviously mentally disturbed persons, are the reason the American family does not work.

edit: What a coincidence that the post above me also points out the pain and suffering of children raised by American psychos!

[edit on 21-7-2010 by SmedleyBurlap]
edit 2: That said, the OP is an obvious troll and just one of the many antisocial [read: anti-American] persons who think that liberty means license.

I feel that if you pay into a system you should get the benefits from it.

But I also feel that if you complain about a system and then benefit from that very same system, you're either gaming the system or are a hypocrite. There are things I don't like about social security, but I've benefited from it and have never complained about it.

The OP feels they didn't have a choice, but you're in America. You ALWAYS have a choice. No one put a gun to your head and you obviously made enough money to be able to afford to build your business and retire comfortably at an early age, so complaining about that same system would make you a whiny hypocrite and your crocodile tears don't affect me.

That's awesome that other people are congratulating you for sticking it to the man. And good on ya, for taking care of your family, but whining about it all is poor form when so many more people have it worse than you and probably work harder and complain less.

I never have understood this catechism. Let me sum up!

You were taught a trade that you have become good at and were given payment for your labors while learning this trade. As you got better at your trade you received more pay because your value had increased. At no time were you ever forced to work there against your will. If you felt under appreciated or that your work was worth more, you had the right and freedom to ask for a raise or find work elsewhere. At anytime you could take the trade that you learned and start your own business to run as you deemed fit, Hire whom you wish, and pay what you want, but yet you never availed yourself of these alternatives.

Meanwhile, the rich, greedy, slave master, business owner, making his fortune off the sweat of his indentured servants, sits in his air-conditioned office flirting with his secretary and counting his money.

This is the same man, by the way that started the company, from a one room office above the shop. The same one that found a market for its services, found suppliers for its raw material, built its reputation as a fair, honest company that did superior work. The same man that grew the company to the extent that he created a job for you. A job that paid a fair wage based upon nothing more than your quality, and ability. A job that would teach you a trade, and with a lot of effort on your part would give you the knowledge and ability to one day run the company or perhaps start your own. Yeah I can see why you would think you got screwed.

When the dust settles from your workers revolt, and you find you need to create businesses to give people jobs, I want you to step up with your hammer and lead these people. Create a business. it could be one of those employee owned type things, or it could be structured any way you deem fair, and equitable. I think that after ohh I say 12 to 14 months, you will once again find yourself working for someone else, Someone with the skills to not only do what you do, but the ability to run a business.

I can see that you are concerned with yourself only. While you have every right to do with your business as you please, rest well knowing that even though you have the ability to help people you choose to look only after yourself. You cannot serve two masters. Your decision is your own. God bless you.

I agree with you in spirit. But it looks like this guy spent a lifetime looking out for others if while looking out for self. Much more so than you and I have ever done. Besides he was providing a service making a product...is that really selfishness?

the problem with your response is that it is a complete fictional story that you just made up. at my last job i worked for an employer that was investigated by the labor board and was found guilty of shaving hours and underpaying his employees over the course of 5 years,he got the money to start his business by marrying a woman stealing her money and then divorcing her, this is reality. your good kind hardworking boss is fiction.

I think this is a pointless argument about who's right or wrong.

I'm not an expert in Politics or Economy, but the way I see it, isn't the purpose of having the Democrats (Socialists) and the Republicans (Capitalists) is to balance each other out?

Because there is an old Chinese saying: ("物极必反")

Translation: "Things will develop in the opposite direction when they become extreme."

Capitalism: In the end, only a few big companies would stand. Everyone else dies off. Efficiency is key. The market kills off the weak, inefficient, poor management, poor decision makers. Darwinism, survival of the fittest.

So the last few big companies still standing, starts monopolizing the market and calling all the shots. Turning everything, including the law in their favor by paying expensive lobbyists, stuffing money to Politicians and such. Effectively making the market a better suited place for themselves at the same time killing off any and all mid to small size competitors. Then the society slowly shifts towards Socialism because 81% of the wealth in the world is in the hands of 10% of the population. That is what I consider "Extreme".

Next thing you know, we end up where we are currently. Where the government "HAVE" to step in and do something or else SHTF.

Socialism: In the end, everyone is poor. Simply because wealth will be constantly redistributed evenly amongst the population. So working hard doesn't really get you a bigger pay check compared to the lazy # sitting next to you, so what's the point?

Next thing you know, everyone stops working hard then everyone becomes poor.

Then the people, who refuse to be poor, will lose confidence in their government. The society begins shifting towards Capitalism, where everyone wants to tell the Government to # off and mind your own business, stop snooping into our business so much. This is where we are headed to comes 2014 and beyond.

Anyway, this is just my two cents, I'm no expert in this area so please forgive me if my understand of Capitalism vs Socialism is incorrect.

I didn't have a chance to go through all 12+ pages of "You suck", no "You rule". I only read the original post once, and I felt that the SYSTEM should be blamed, not the business owners.

Oh and all the comments about moochers, parasites, well my best friend is one.

This #er got laid off work a year and half ago. He has been collecting EDD payments for the entire duration, while 100% physically able to work. He just doesn't bother to look, because he lives comfortably on his ass collecting a check every 2 weeks.

Now mind you that he doesn't even want to start looking, because the Feds just keeps giving out extensions after extensions. To people who are fully capable, but refuse to work because they're lazy.

The only thing keeping me from bitch slapping his ass is because he's my heterosexual life mate.

Talk about moochers, parasites, I know of a few

One of the people i employed was found to be using the comp. credit card for personal use, stealing from petty cash, had 3 kids by 3 different women all of whom he refused to support.
It works both ways

Understandable. Could your business be taken offshore? It seems Americans are not willing to start a business out of laziness. Hand out unemployment money and this intensifies this apathy. Other countries jump on opportunities to make money, while we just watch TV. It would be good if the USA had a system that encouraged new business start up, but we don't. I see the profits going elsewhere from this shut down.
I have great admiration for people like you who make a company go and wish I had the same drive.
