Purple Rain is an album by Prince and The Revolution, the soundtrack to the 1984 film Purple Rain.

Purple Rain is regularly ranked among the best albums in rock music history. Time magazine ranked it the 15th greatest album of all time in 1993, and it placed 18th on VH1's Greatest Rock and Roll Albums of All Time countdown. Rolling Stone magazine ranked it the second-best album of the 1980s and 72nd on their list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Zounds magazine ranked it the 18th greatest album of all time. Furthermore, the album placed 4th in Plásticos y Decibelios' list of The Greatest Albums of All Time. Finally, in 2007, the editors of Vanity Fair labeled it the best soundtrack of all time and Tempo magazine named it the greatest album of the 1980s.[1]

The 1000th issue of Entertainment Weekly dated July 4, 2008 listed Purple Rain at number one on their list of the top 100 best albums of the past 25 years.[2] The RIAA lists it as having gone platinum 13 times over.[3]

An absolutely great album with a little something for everyone on it.

Sorry, for never listen the album. Saw the movie a couple of times. All was amazing. The acting and singing. The whole of it. It's a "classic".

He was just the "final flash" at the danish Roskilde festival and what i heard people say and saw at YouTube, he still got "it".

By surprise "Purple Rain" is no longer "muted" the moment it's being uploaded, as it used to be. Or not yet LOL

Oh! Love it! I have the CD. The movie was great, though. The angst! That was the best part. Prince has that kind of weird, kinky way about him that I find really attractive in a base way, even though I think I could probably fit him in one of my larger pockets.

Thanks for the reminder!

Oh the things I endured in the 80's for the music I loved.
They loved Billy Idol-

I loved Prince.
There..I said it..
I put up with teasing to no end...
They'd whisper "PINK CLOUDS" just to tick me off.
Over the years Prince has definitely showed that he is eccentric, and guilty of non- conformity.
I don't care...in his own right the man is a musical genius.
I'll sing Darling Nikki till the day I DIE...

Not a song on that entire soundtrack that I don't know by heart.
Like this one...

FAV OF ALL TIME!!!!

and yes..I even wore purple a lot of the time...*blushes

Nah, it's the black vinyl version. The purple one goes for close to $150. Got mine at a local flea market for $10, if memory serves.

Prince is a musical genius. Too bad he is too nutty to put it to good use.

I was always more of a Morris Day and the Time guy, but Purple Rain was an amazing album. Takes me back to my childhood.

Prince was cool til he came out that time wearing the pants with the butt cheeks cut out, ever since then I have had my doubts.

Here is my favorite Prince song ever

Here he is doing Creep by Radiohead at Coachella 08, pretty cool cover
