The name of the victim is Karim Boudouda, I am going to go out on a limb here and say he is a Muslim. The Muslims in France are angry that the French
government has the audacity to enforce French laws against them and they are upset that the Gendarmerie and the Police Nationale won't let them do
whatever they please. They think they are above the law and that they should be held to a different standard due to their status as a minority. As
with all minority groups, the concept of taking responsibility for ones own actions is lost on them.

I'm trying to understand the meaning of this situation. Why are people rioting after a known armed robber is shot? Especially knowing that an officer was surrounded, one injured and there was a gunfight between the robbers and police.
So this is what it's all about? Officers do their jobs and then towns riot? Do people not appreciate the work that we police officers do? Do people not value our lives? We know the risks our job entails, and I know that I shouldn't expect thanks in most situations, but is the life of an officer less important that the one of a known criminal?
What bothers me is that these riots were not done after the result of an investigation claiming the responsibility of the police, or claiming that they were wrong... These riots were started right after the memorial service for the criminal!
Why?

Police say they pursued two men suspected of holding up the casino at Uriage-les-Bains early on Friday morning. The two men fired shots at them, police said, wounding an officer. Police returned fire, killing one of the men, Karim Boudouda. Mr Boudouda, 27, had three previous convictions for armed robbery.

I understand their frustrations over the banning of the veil in France, and that they feel like they are being treated like "inferiors" but on that day, the Gendarmerie was not there to harass them, they were actually there to protect them from criminals... It's absurd!
It's like having a tantrum because this time, instead of your mother asking you to clean your room, she actually helped you paint the walls...
