Ok am I the only one who finds this absolutely hilarious?

All I see when I read this is a nation full of dumb, drunk, trailer trash going for a swim when they dont know how to swim. How can you not know how to swim?

I never learned how to swim, due to an overwhelming fear of drowning, but at least when I drink, I have enough sense to grab hold of the styrofoam cooler and go floating/boating with it

They make great flotation devices

Common sense isn't given, taken away or supressed.

No, I don't think I will blame their government for this.

I encourage you to.
You will love it.
It is very fun, relaxing, cooling and good for you.
It is definitely part of the human experience you shouldnt miss.

I actually feel compassion for you for missing all the fun you could have had swimming when you were younger. Some of the best parts of my life have been spent in pools, lakes, and oceans.

Ehh my childhood is a whole other story. I dont expect pity but most of my childhood was spent trying to protect my druggie mother from her abusive men. That said, Now you know alittle about me.

It certainly is sad that someone who couldn't swim would enter water at a depth that would require them to swim. Maybe they did know how to swim but were drinking "mind erasures" and forgot how.
I know vodka generates some memory issues for me.

mind erasure

I am sorry to hear that my man. I can relate a tad. I had an abusive alcoholic father, but thank God he left when I was young.

Well now you are all grown up and so you can make time for yourself and go do all those things you missed out on. You are never too old to have a good time.

Oh no doubt, I left all that behind and started a new life in Indiana with my girlfriend, i have never been so happy in my entire life. Time to start living!

Dude, go take some swim lessons.
It will help you overcome your fear of drowning.
Plus you really will drown if you are out floating on a cooler and you cant swim. One good wave or wake and you are SOL.

I don't know, maybe it's just Long Island being that the ocean and swimming is such a big part of our culture but I find it hard to believe that so many people don't know how to swim. Dogs can swim by instinct without being taught and I have a feeling that humans can as well just that 90% of these Russians were drunken beyond belief.

It's my understanding that alcoholism and alcohol related deaths are a huge problem in Europe and especially in Russia and the former Soviet Union states.

Yeah seriously. Go make up for all that time you lost. You did a good thing protecting your mother, but you also need to experience the stuff you missed out on. I wish you the best and hope you have tons of good times to make up for the bad stuff you had to deal with.

I know, I really should try again. I've taken them in the past and failed miserably, no fear of water, just fear of drowning. I make sure I have a life vest on anytime I'm on a boat, or too close to water, and if I'm floating with something else I have a death grip on it. I can actually float with anything flotable, I just sink if I let go.

I should find myself a public pool and a good teacher, have another go at it.

Oh, by the way, not a dude, I'm a dudette

Staying away from the vodka when close to the water is a really, really good idea...

You my friend are nothing but ignorant, repugnant at the least and feel it is you who is the classic example of the Dumbed Down Apartame Chomping Fool,

It is you who is living under a communist regime, you have:

A President who isn't legally allowed in office by your constitution,

He has reneaged on everything he promised when campaigning,

He has completely robbed the once Great Nation of America,

He's allowed a major disaster to fester, of which you will all pay a terrible price interms of Health and Tax,

He's allowed the FDA to continue it's corrupt run in allowing poison into your every day food, drink chain,

He's allowed 37 million good American to rely on food stamps,

He's sent 10's of 1000's of additional troops into two proxy wars that are nothing but bordering on gangsterism grabbing the Oil, Drugs, Minerals,

he's giving 100's of million's annually to other Nations when his own people are starving and living in poverty,

Summary you think it's the Russian public are thick and degenerate! Go have a look in the mirror, read the labels on your food, because what you mock in Russia's past is exactly what you live in now and that is your FUTURE, and what are you doing "NOTHING" just mocking other less fortunate folk,

So I can't see anything funny in your comment, and think you should consider jogging on to a less intellectual forum where you may feel more comfortable,

"I just go a great idea to save our country money. We can just help the russian population kill itself off by funding public swimming pools with free vodka. "

Sorry, but that was funny----whoever ever posted that on page 1.

Kushkin: Sorry if you feel offended. I don't think the original post was meant to hurt any feelings. There is a difference between a judgment and an observation. We were merely "observing" that many Russians have drowned this summer---because of not knowing how to swim and because they were drinking.

It wasn't meant to be a put down, my friend. Merely posting an interesting observation about life and heat.

Take a deep breath now....

Is this heat wave unnatural for Russia? How hot did it actually get?

I have to say..this is the hottest summer I remember..ever. I mean, yes it's gotten up to 100 before..but not for months..usually only a week or so.

It seems like it's hot everywhere around the globe now.

I know all you other posters comments were funny..but in all reality..the Russian people are no worse than Americans or anyone else.
The only thing that kept them from putting a bullet in their own head was their vodka.
They are some tough-ass people and I do admire them. I wouldnt mind a big ruskie on my side in a fight.

I have never had Aspartame in my life. That crap will kill you. It turns into formaldehyde in your body. It does to your body what drinking a 5th of vodka everyday does to your brain.

I can confirm the heat in Russia as I was there for a week, 5th to 10th July.
In Moscow it was hitting the low to mid 30's and in Kazan on the 9th wheile I was there it hit 41 degrees (thats 105 F for those that still use the system). To make matters worse, the airport has no aircon and our flight back to Moscow was delayed until 11:30PM. Using a boarding pass as a fan is fairly ineffective and makes your wrist ache after a 2 hour workout!

In Kazan, they expect a temperature spread average of -38 in winter to +38 in summer, so it's only slightly higher than normal, but too hot for me.

It was nice to land back at London Heathrow on the saturday afternoon in high 20's and nice cool breeze.

death isnt a 'funny' thing.
in Russia its mainly 'freezing' most of the time.
they are lucky even to have 'sun' on them all the time.
russian rivers, seas, lakes are below freezing so you just cant swim like you don indoors as outdoors you get waves etc.
communism is capitalism, same thing if you look carefully and you will understand. ussr produced loads of great specialists, evreyone knows this.
i'm not flipping out on you, just keep certain 'opinions' that may cause others harm to yourself.
