Dozens of Russians (many of them picnicing with vodka) are drowning everyday, trying to escape the heat, according to emergency officials.

Groups of Russians are heading to lakes and streams in and around the Russian capitol to cool off, and some of them aren't making it down to breakfast the next day. They've had a six week heatwave. Yesterday alone, 49 people drowned.

Number one, Russians aren't taught to swim the way they are in the States. And secondly, a lot of these deaths can be blamed on the Russian love of Vodka. Of the 49 people who drowned yesterday, only two were children.

More than 1,200 people drowned across Russia in June this year, including 233 between July 5 and July 12.

Would it be ironic to take shots in memory of these fallen comrades?

Ok am I the only one who finds this absolutely hilarious?

Its just picturing it that is funny, not people actually dying.

All I see when I read this is a nation full of dumb, drunk, trailer trash going for a swim when they dont know how to swim. How can you not know how to swim?

Is this not just proof that living under years of communist rule has made thier populace studpid, drunk, and unable to even figure out how to swim without help from the government.

Thanks to Obama and his cronies, that is path that we are heading
down. There was a thread here asking why kids arent being taught how to swim in school anymore. I think its just another way of getting rid of us so they dont have to take care of us.

Well I have always thought that too much socialism or communism would lead to de-evolution of the human species. Maybe we have now found proof. Next thing you know the socialist around here will expect the government to give everyone swimming lessons.

Ok I will give you some free advice. Get a dog, take it to a pool, lake, or pond and watch how it swims. Then mimic that, preferably not under the influence of a fifth of vodka. It will at least keep you alive until you figure out the rest.

Somebody better tell all the ATS people on here that think we are headed toward the age of enlightenment in 2012 that we have already entered the age of the Idiocracy.

I just go a great idea to save our country money. We can just help the russian population kill itself off by funding public swimming pools with free vodka.

I never had a reason to learn, and in my upbringing my parent had other priorities than me swimming.

It all sounds like natural selection to me

If you don't know how to swim don't go in the water! Especially if you are drunk. Then again if you are drunk you do not have the sense to stay out of the water.

Natural selection.

Well its a great thing to learn. Swimming is fun and it opens up whole other areas of activities for you, such as water skiing.

I highly encourage you to get some of your friends who can swim to go with you to the local pool and give you a few pointers in the shallow end. I would say you should be up and swimming in no time.

I was being a tad sarcastic earlier, but not in the post you just quoted. I am serious, get your friends together and get them to teach you how to swim. It is something you will probably enjoy, its healthy, and it could save your life one day.

So they get drunk and drown.

I would think after the first 100 drowned that they would realize drinking to much and swimming isn't a very bright idea.

I encourage you to.
You will love it.
It is very fun, relaxing, cooling and good for you.
It is definitely part of the human experience you shouldnt miss.

I actually feel compassion for you for missing all the fun you could have had swimming when you were younger. Some of the best parts of my life have been spent in pools, lakes, and oceans.

Since many of them lived for so long under communist/socialist rule, they are probably no longer able to figure out what is dangerous or not without the government making a rule about it.

how dumb do you have to be?

"oh god it's sweltering out, give me more vodka to dehydrate me."

"wtf i'm so thirsty, more vodka!"

"so hot and thirsty, guess i'll just stumble into the river with all my motor skills and heat stroke out into the water and drown!"
