Magnatude 3.6 Earthquake Rattles DC area

A 3.6 magnitude earthquake shook the WTOP listening area just after 5 a.m.
The U.S. Geological Survey says it happened at exactly 5:04:49 a.m.

"It was centered in the Germantown-Gaithersburg area," Randy Balwin with the U.S. Geological Survey's Earthquake Information Center tells WTOP.

I was at work when it felt like something exploded outside our building. It was my first experience, it was a little frightening to say the least. In light of the recent seismic activity in the North East US, there seems to be alot more activity as of late. Could the new gas mining operations in Northern Pennsylvania have something to do with it?
