What's Going On With The Blago Trial??? Something Stinks!

The prosecution is about to rest its case and turn over the floor to the defense. However, there seems to be some controversy brewing over the way this case was presented by the prosecution. Strange indeed!!!!

Some background:

On June 8, 2010, the Government began its 24-count case of corruption against former Governor Rod Blagojevich. The Government’s opening statement told the jury “the evidence will show” that Blagojevich conspired with Lon Monk, Tony Rezko and Chris Kelly when they “devised ways to gain personal profit” from the Governor’s position of power. They then proceeded with the following allegations:

1. Tony Rezko arranged for insiders at Bear Stearns to provide a $500,.000 kickback to himself and Governor Blagojevich.

2. Stuart Levine also arranged for “kickbacks” and was even recorded on his home phone by the FBI.

3. Blagojevich “tried” to shakedown then Congressman Rahm Emanuel but his middleman wouldn’t do the “dirty work” asked of him by Blagojevich.

4. Blagojevich “tried” to shakedown a concrete company for a tollway project. He sent Lon Monk to ask the owner of the company if he would raise $500,000 for Blagojevich. “No success.”

5. Blagojevich learned that Obama wanted Valerie Jarrett to be named to his vacant Senate Seat so he considered his power to appoint as a “golden ticket” to research what jobs he could get from Obama. When that didn’t work, he considered Jesse Jackson, Jr. and how much the Congressman’s supporters to raise for him in exchange for the appointment.

Keep the above in mind when you read this

Yesterday, just five weeks after the trial’s start, the Government ended their case-in-chief. Even though the FBI recorded over 500 hours of conversations, the prosecution only played less than 100 brief conversations or “snippets” of conversations.

Sources close to the case say the witness list was a mile long: 600-800 people. Yet only 30 or so witnesses were actually called to testify.

Did alleged co-conspirator Tony Rezco testify at trial? No. In fact, he’s still waiting to be sentenced on 16 of 24 corruption charges to which he was found guilty over two years ago, on June 4, 2008. (Also, Mr. Rezko apparently isn’t even in prison!)

Did Stuart Levine testify at trial? No. In fact, he’s still waiting to be sentenced to 23 out of 24 counts of corruption which he pleaded guilty to almost four years ago, on October 27, 2006.

Did alleged co-conspirator Chris Kelly testify? No. He committed suicide last year after pleading guilty (but of course wasn’t sentenced yet) to unrelated tax charges.

Did Congressman Jackson, an alleged victim of Blagojevich, testify? No.

The case did not end with a star witness or proof of a major-money transaction; it was not proved beyond a reasonable doubt.

Why were none of these people implicated asked to testify??

500 hours of taped conversations and nothing!!

Only 30 witnesses in case the was hyped to be mind bending??

Why??

Instead, more questions about the White House involvement loomed. No wonder why alleged victim Rahm Emanuel didn’t testify!

The prosecution’s next to last witness was lobbyist John Wyma who told the jury that Rahm Emanuel called him and asked that he deliver a message to the Governor on behalf of President-Elect Obama: “He said the President-Elect would value and appreciate Valerie Jarrett in the Senate seat.”

Obama and Emanuel’s involvement in this case was evident early-on and throughout the trial, especially when SEIU union official Tom Balanoff told the jury, “I told Jarrett that if Blagojevich didn’t appoint you, he would no longer get our support.”

Who is really being protected here? I can now see why Teflon Blago has been so arrogant since the beginning of this whole charade.

Will he make a revelation during the presentation of his defense??

If Obama is implicated in any way, you can be sure that Blago will be entirely safe from any real prosecution. I haven't followed the case, but I never really expected anything to stick.

So are they claiming the prosecution soft-balled it? Threw up a shoddy prosecution just for press, but left plenty of holes for the defense? That would seem about right to me, but like I said, I haven't followed it, and I don't plan to. Just a lesson in futility, and I don't need more stress.

Noted and filed away for later in the "too big to fail" category.
When these rats jump ship they grab the other rats by the short ones.
Either they all go down together or they float away to gnaw the ships' rigging another day. I would guess the latter case will prove true.
Birds of a feather flock together, that's why the world looks so sh*tty

I have been following some of the trial and the basic feeling seems to be that if they let Blago testify on his own behalf, that he will incriminate himself. Just judging from his performance as our Governer and the way he has acted since then, their probably right. He seems to have this "I am the king of the world, and you pissants can't do anything to me!" attitude, mostly fostered by his bankrolling, sugerdaddy, puppetmaster, "His Lord and Highness".......... Mr. Daley.

Whoa, wait...... He (Daley) was also one of the biggest contributers to the early Obama presidential campaign.

My prediction: one of three things will happen...

1. Daley will pay-off/intimidate the jury so Blago will go free...

2. Blago will be convicted of all charges, and be pardoned by Obama, rather quickly, at Daleys request....

or

3. The Daley/Obama group will lead Blago on to make him feel invencible, so he will shoot off his mouth (as he has been doing), then let him fall on his sword, by distancing themselves as far as they can, politically.

The way things are playing out as of now, #3 seems to be the most likely to happen.

Keep in mind, these are my gut feelings, haven been a citizen under the Bloag rule in Illinois for most of his term, and I have no proof. But the guy is a slimeball politician who is only out to rape the world, and I hope he fries.

Just Chicago/Illinois/Democrat politics as usual.

There does not seem to be anything unusual from what I have read.

This is the state in which all the dead,or felons voted for Kennedy which allowed him enough electoral college votes to beat Nixon.

Now,the whole world has a change to see how Chicago politics works.

Something indeed stinks.

Remember this:

All men are equal under the law.

So where's the law now? On vacation?

The only things I can smell is BS, and hairspray. Blago tried to profit from Obama's seat, not Obama, or Rahm, or Jarrett, or SEIU. For Obama to suggest who he would like to see have his seat is not illegal. Let's see.....

Birther conspiracy= Fail

Socialist conspiracy = Fail

Nazi conspiracy = Fail

Government takeover conspiracy = Fail

Hates whites conspiracy = Fail

Blago conspiracy = Fail

Can't wait to see tomorrow's failed Obama conspiracy. You guys are like a fat man in a milkshake shop...GRASPING FOR STRAWS!

I think it's funny how he wanted all those tapes reviewed in court and from what I have heard in these tapes on our local news is that he is indeed an Ahole. I haven't liked him from the get go.

I am from further down state and we are continually forgotten..I know that there is a movement to split the state from Springfield down and make s. illinois a separate state..I wish this would happen so at least we could get some respect and have more $$$ for ourselves..

That's because there are more people in the Chicagoland area than in the rest of the state.

Thats got my vote but I say split it at I-80, and give the Chicagoland area to Wisconson since they both desire the same Anti-gun policy.

But we need to keep everything west of Rockford. Nice area up there, good motorcycle riding thru Galina.

It's not just this case, the Federal government has a long history of doing a lousy job of exposing Chicago corruption.

Every once in a while there will be a few poorly done trials but nothing substantial enough to change politics.

I think they WANT to keep Chicago corrupt - easier to hide things.

The really bad thing is: Everyone knows how bad politicians, who come from Chicago, are, and yet we ellected one to the top political office in the American Government.

Now that's funny especially the govt. takeover conspiracy part because it is a reality not a conspiracy.

General Motors
Fannie and Freddie
Student Loan Industry
Looming FCC grab for internet control
Cap and trade
Increasing reach on small farmers, homeowners and farmers markets with HR 875 to establish a new Food Safety Administration
Healthcare Legislation
Financial Legislation

The last two represent the two largest grabs for federal govt authority in our time.

Hell, take your pick because this administration is obsessed with inserting its ever growing probe into all aspects of our lives and into all sectors of private industry.

Wake up to reality!!

The birther issue hasn't failed it has just hit a dead end. Let me know when Obama figures out which hospital he was really born in.

Obama was a scholar of socialism in college and surrounds himself with those who espouse themselves with elements of its doctrine.

Nazi! I'll agree with you on that

Hates Whites?? Hate is such a powerful word. I prefer dislike and distrust. Read his book. He definitely has some deeply seeded issues with those of the Caucasian persuasion (Obama identity crisis since college). People forget that he is half Caucasion.

Blago? Come on! There is way more below the surface here than we will ever know. This was a deliberate softball prosecution full of deals and handshakes and maybe a hooker or two.
Gotta keep it classy in Chicago.
