People get banned from discussion forums all the time for various reasons, no big deal right. But imagine this. What if you were banned from the internet all together, forever everywhere. I don't know what kind offense would lead to such a drastic measure but I imagine it would have to be something major.

You would have a hard time finding a job.

Good luck enforcing that.
Sock puppets abound..as well as fake IP's.
A new identity is EASY.

Well it's obviously a hypothetical scenario for now but in the future who knows, retina scans etc. The banned would basically become 2nd class citizens, a scary scenario no?

I think there have been cases where people have literally been banned from the internet.

Usually the real top professional hackers, and it's a court order - I think back in the 'phone phreaking' days some guys were also banned from using the telephone service!

Of course prisoners are routinely banned from such types of communication but I don't think that's what you meant.

Yeah, I remember back in the Mid Eighties when people would have to phreak to different countries just to get access to exclusive information like top secret government stuff. They would be banned from all telephone electronic transmissions and would have to sign a wire tap agreement.

Not that I would have any experience in this, just heard from a lot of phreakers back then saying that's why people were disappearing.

I'm not disagreeing with you here, internet access IS a privilege, however, do you guys remember this story in the news?
Internet access is a fundamental right, rules French court

It was very very weird..
