I ran across a billboard suggesting Obama, Hitler and Lenin Have something in common-Socialism. Now I have been working abroad for a few years so I do not have a good handle on what is happening. click the link for the story and picture of the billboard.

Sir, we are not edging towards it, we are streaking towards it like an atlas rocket. Obama used bank regulators to force banks, even those that did not wish to, to take tarp money. This gave the feds a control mechanism over the banking system. They bought up, not loaned, but bought up GM. They took over healthcare. The deficit, despite the democratic congress failing to pass a budget, is past 1 trillion dollars as of July, headed toward 2 trillion. The fed is actually printing money to buy it's treasury notes (this raises money, at least on paper, and will lead to hyperinflation). The president has, to date appointed 50 czars, nearly half of which are avowed marxists. Other than that, things are fine.

I think America has been moving to a more socialist society ever since the 1920's, to be honest. You've got the social programs, the federal control, and now the governments even controlling your health care :S

Obamas a socialist man, like all modern democrats. He wants the universal health care, doesn't he?

And about 99% of modern republicans.

Oh, wait centralized planning somehow works with the federal programs that the GOP supports! My bad, I forgot!

The banks were forced to take TARP funds by the republican Treasurer Hank Paulson, several months before Obama was elected into office. GM declared bankruptcy owing the federal government (us taxpayers) billions of dollars, at which point the government was forced to take control of the company (just like all creditors are given control of a company in bankruptcy). Healthcare has not been 'taken over'. Hospitals, healthcare companies and insurance businesses are all still privately owned and making out like bandits. The Fed's quantitative easing policy (printing) is done and over. It was responsible for an unprecedented market rally from March 2009 that restored up to 80% of the value to the retirement funds of every single american citizen. There have been about 30 special appointments in the Obama administration. They are not 'Czars'.

It seems that there isn't an accurate comment in anything you wrote.

Heading towards socialism? Hardly. We are headed towards a majority of the population being so woefully ignorant it can't process basic information correctly. We are driving towards being corporately fascist police state. Current government now places civic interests decidedly behind the major corporate interests.

Obama a socialist? What a stupid joke. His policies are more conservative than Bush 1. No, that is just ignorant idiots being manipulated into finding a boogey man to divert attention from your real masters.

My God, what a crime against humanity!!! ...will someone please come and nuke us into oblivion? We are a society too ignorant to consume oxygen.

"Forced" to take control of GM? Are you kidding. If I go broke are they "forced" to take control of me? I didn't know there was a law against bankruptcy. The only thing forced was a robbery of the bond holders and a redistribution to the unions. In short, you don't know what you're talking about.
Chavez was recently forced to take control of several industries in venezuela. He's quite a capitalist, like barry.
You say they're not czars. Funny, Obama disagreed with you, because he called them czars, until he figured out people weren't comfortable with that. And again, over half of them are avowed marxists.
The printing money to buy treasury issues occured in late 09. (I work in the financial sector). It's just a fact.
Oh, and it wasn't a rally. The market didn't start to tank until barry was elected. Returning to a mediocre level does not constitute a rally. We haven't had a rally in years. Fact is, this regime is destroying the economy. These are just facts. I don't speculate. Facts are verifiable.

Never said it was a crime, did I? Cut the sarcasm, I'm all for Health Care. I love having it here; It's about time the USA stopped neglecting its citizens. But regardless of how good or bad it is, he is still currently controlling it. Are you not being forced to purchase insurance before 2014?

I wish we were...we need more of it in this country...new poll released today: "Voters Say To Hell With Deficit Reduction, Help The Unemployed"

If we are edging towards it, it's because the majority of Americans realize we need it and want it.

Socialism?

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?????????????

It's CORPORATISM.

Cripes...look at all the major bills that have passed....look at how everything has been watered down to make sure that the huge ass transnational corporations and the banking industry continue to get their way while they corrupt our political system and sap every penny out of the middle class...which is in the middle of a COLLAPSE itself.

Obviously, this country needs to feel more pain before people will wake the hell up and realize that these corporations DO NOT CARE about OUR LAWS nor our BORDERS.

They don't....they don't care if you have a job....they don't care if you can put food on the table....THEY DON'T CARE.

Hey now there's someone that makes sense to me! Alright star for you buddy!

If you want to see social democracy look to Scandinavia not America. In a socialist country the middle class should be growing, not shrinking. President Obama is much better than President Bush, and I think his heart is in the right place (wow that's going to be the least popular sentence of the year on this site.) However, he's still bending over backwards to the corporations too.

How about real corporate regulation instead of sucking up to Wall Street?

How about policies that punish sending jobs overseas instead of rewarding it?

How about real universal health care coverage for those that want it instead of giving a handout to lawyers and insurance companies?

How about closing corporate tax loopholes instead of making more of them?

How about actually following the ideas of John Maynard Keynes instead of chickening out?

How about building an educational system that inspires the youth instead of punishing them?

How about ending corporate monopolies instead of creating more of them?

How about giving a damn about corporate treatment of human rights laws instead of looking the other way?

How about taking a stick to BP for screwing up instead of letting them arrest anyone that comes near a beach?

Then I'll start calling the United States socialist. Until that point, no dice.

You're getting better on your international policy in my opinion America, but please, it's time to start looking after your own people too!

Edit: I should make it clear, for full disclosure to any who do not know, I am a socialist and proud to be one. I think socialism gets a horribly bad reputation in the United States because many Americans equate it to Communism, but that's very far from the truth of the philosophy.

I've seen what socialism can do for America. When I lived in Milwaukee, the only major American city to elect openly socialist mayors. They did great things for that town, and are still very respected and applauded there.

I'm not a Communist, very far from it in fact, and I would never ever advocate anyone to live under the perverted systems that so-called "Communists" have created in government. Please remember, we socialists fought alongside you in the Cold War, not with the dictatorial and totalitarian egomaniacs that killed millions and stunted the progress of the Communist nations.

Socialism??? LOL! We'd be so lucky to have socialism. The problem is, Americans don't know their head from a hole in the ground. I've not run across many who know what Capitalism, Socialism, Communism, or Fascism are.

Most idiots run around screaming,"I'm Free!!!"; yet don't even understand what freedom is. What AmeriKa actually embodies is Fascism. We socialize the losses, and liabilities; while at the same time privatizing the profits.

To laymen, that is we all get stuck with the bills, losses, and liabilities for companies x,y,z; while those companies run off with the bailouts; that they call 'profit'. Fascism means that we all have to make do with less while the government takes more.

Taking it a step further, Capitalism should be a system void of regulation in all forms; that means no licensing, codes, or permits; yet, what do we have? We have all of those, and all of those do nothing, except run small businesses out, and big business in.

Good Luck in the Fascist States of AmeriKa. Malcolm X once said,"If you're not ready to die for it, put the word 'freedom' out of your vocabulary."

How many of you are ready to die for it?
