there's times i post images, and they are directly inserted into the reply or o.p.
and, other times i post them a link to the images is provided?

i'm posting by c&p the 'image location' into the color pallet provided above.

am i doing something wrong?

it's nice to have the image itself posted instead of a link.

I second this request for an answer.

I always wondered this myself but was afraid to tell people how computarded I am.

Thanks in advance.

It might be due to some sites not allowing hotlinking.

I don't think its something site side.

beside the fact that for me reading the post you provided, thanx, is similar to reading another language.
i'm still confused though, since i also post on another board, and have never had a problem posting the same image i've posted here. never comes up with a link.
would this put the ball in ats's court?
maybe it's something to do with this site.

It basically means that when you embed an image or video on here, it uses bandwidth from the site that hosts it. So to cut down on the "hogged" bandwidth some sites don't allow the images or videos to be embedded.

ah......english.
ok, i get that part now, but why then can i post the image directly on another board, yet not this one?
cna the host pick and choose where it wants the image posted?

This is just a guess, but ATS may not allow embedding from some image hosting sites. They had some problems in the past with people being exposed to malware via the servers that embedded images were hosted on.

There was an announcement in March 2009 that at some point in the future all embedded images would have to be hosted in our ATS Media accounts, but that there would be a delay in implementing the policy to allow us to switch stuff over and get accustomed to the change.

Here's the announcement thread:

New Policy Regarding Images on ATS

Wrap the image url with (ats)(/ats) tags but use the square brackets instead of the round ones.

Or upload the image to MATS.

I am trying to start out slow posting an image from My Pictures. Someone told me to paste the embed code on the little box image icon where I type a post. I can't find a little image icon - where did it go George, lol.

Also, what is MATS - I learned about RATS yesterday

MATS is Media Above Top Secret -- just another name for the video&media section.

The image insert button is above the area where you type your posts, in the line of little buttons. It's the one that shows a computer monitor and an artist's palette in color.

I don't think you need to use that if you've taken the embed code text from the media center though, you should just be able to paste that code right into your post.

Let me try something...

Weird, it's not showing up. I think part of the problem you're having is that you used both an "img" tag and an "atsimg" tag. But even when I remove one of them I'm not getting your image...

The above is all that I get when I paste the code. I tried it using the icon and just pasting in the box. I noticed my HTML is off, does that have anything to do with it? Lunch time - will be back later to practice

Having HTML off is fine as long as BB Code is on.

I think the problem was that you didn't copy the entire code snippet; it was missing the .jpg and the final atsimg tag.

Here's what I get by just pasting the entire code directly into my post:

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/6fbf515820f2.jpg[/atsimg]

And here's what the code I used looks like:

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/6fbf515820f2.jpg[/atsimg]

edit because originally I used the wrong picture from your album.

Also a comment: the code to embed the image continues past the little box that you can see on the screen, and it won't let me scroll past to select the whole thing. I had to triple-click in the box to select instead of click-and-drag.

you're using screwy tags.
under your picture in tintube (mats) you will see three different options with the code already done.

just copy the third one (embed) and paste here. don't use the post image button in the reply screen.

or copy the image link and the add [atsimg] [/atsimg] on either end

edited to correct my crappy spelling
