People are shot every week in the UK without the level of alert generated here - what makes Moat different from other comparative cases?

It might have something to do with the fact he shot a policeman (as well as 2 more people) in cold blood and then vowed to keep killing them until he was dead and then just disappeared without a trace.

Now surely you can understand the amount of fear that would have been caused after hearing you are a target and then the person targeting you completely disappears without a trace?

Also no, shootings aren't exactly the norm over here in all honesty.

Not every shooting or gunman taunts police and threatens to kill them while going into hiding and evading capture for a week.

Shootings really are not that common here.

The only other one like this, in terms of publicity and so on was the recent Cumbria shootings episode.... where a gunman went on the rampage shooting around 40 people and killing 12.

The reason this story is being done to death is because this is a very rare event in the UK.

Just heard that all the media have been asked to withdraw to a 10 mile exclusion zone as they are hampering police efforts.

Makes you wonder what the police don't want people to see?

That footage is old and is being played on a loop. It's from an hour or so ago.

Well they are going to move the press 10 miles.
Do you think they are going to shoot him and they don't want the press around

From what i can see the press are not that close and he is surrounded by snipers something smells.

It's only media I believe.

If it were the residents being evacuated and moved 10 miles away, then I'd say we have something pretty crazy going down.

I think the police either don't want their killing of Moat to be filmed/heard.... ot the media are just pissing them off

He only has a sawn-off shotgun and is completely surrounded so I have no idea why they are asking for a 10 mile radius, very strange.
