Magnitude-5.9 quake strikes Southern California, centred near Palm Springs

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - An earthquake struck Southern California Wednesday, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The magnitude-5.9 quake was centred 28 miles (45 kilometres) south of Palm Springs, the U.S. Geological Survey said. It struck at 4:53 p.m. (2353 GMT).

A Los Angeles County sheriff's spokeswoman said there have been no immediate reports of major problems.

I hope it's not a precurser for something more pwerful!!!

There is no report of anything major being broken or destroyed and I hope that nobody is injured in this quake!

Downgraded to 5.4, an earthquake in California isn't breaking unless it kills someone or does significant damage. It is California after all...

im in san diego east county and we felt it pretty good... still not as good as that easter one.. but a nice little shake

I felt it, up in the "Fullerton Hills".

Was a pretty good distance away too.

As for the whole event, it was a "meh earthquake". As in, "Meh, we just had an earthquake."
